Weekend TV News And Notes

SPEED goes to Daytona on Saturday for a 1PM ET version of NASCAR Preseason Thunder. This is a TV series that has already aired for one week on SPEED and next week will be tagging along with the Charlotte Media Tour.

The shows next week will air at 7:30PM on weekdays and feature Wendy Venturini and Bob Dillner chronicling the writers and journalists as they tour the Concord and Mooresville, NC team shops.

The SPEED Report should have a jam-packed show on Sunday at 7PM ET simply because of the large amount of NASCAR news that has taken place over the past week. Krista Voda and Leigh Diffey will host for SPEED with reports from all over the racing world.

The Showtime cable TV network begins airing the critically acclaimed Ride of Their Lives movie at 7:15PM ET Saturday night. The Showtime version has no commercials and ten additional minutes of never before seen content. Showtime will air the movie in regular rotation, so check the listings for re-airs.

Geoff Bodine continues his support for the US Bobsled Team with his annual TV special at noon ET Sunday on SPEED. NHRA and NASCAR drivers team-up with members of the US Armed Forces for bobsled action to raise money for the national team.

Finally, Monday at 7PM the popular Trackside show returns on SPEED for a week of specials from Daytona. This will be Darrell Waltrip's opportunity to speak out about the current NASCAR issues. He will be joined by Jeff Hammond and Larry McReynolds for these programs that will be hosted by Steve Byrnes.

This will be SPEED's opportunity to help the fans understand what is going on with the sport before ESPN re-enters the picture with that network's NASCAR news show.

Speaking of NASCAR Now, the ESPN2 series returns on February 2nd with Allen Bestwick, Mike Massaro and Nicole Manske as hosts.

Isn't "The Ride Of Your Lives" about the Charlotte Media Bus Tour?

Have the DVR set. I saw the original play of Ride of their Lives look forward to seeing what they added.

I do hope they stop with the entertainment and tell us what we fans want to hear and need to know.

With the latest changes to the Shootout, the teams that are going to very part time or may not be around come half way in the season, literally last second driver changes and what this all means.

The "voices" need to be heard. I do hope that Mr. Helton, Mr. Darby and/or Mr. Pemberton are a part of next week. Sadly the one who *should* be speaking Baby Brian is clueless and would give us the same "I've been here 5 seconds I'm already bored and want to go home" attitude as he's dressed in his crumpled clothing.

I'm not holding my breath but I do hope that we get some real news next week and they can the "entertainment". I do like it but as I said in the Kevin James thread, there's a time and a place for it. And after 6 weeks of nothing from from the Broadcast Partners we're hungry--heck starving--for it.

Ugh, I hate NASCAR Now. Only watched it with the sound muted!

And while Speed's coverage gets to be a bit tacky, at least they get it right most of the time.

You have forgotten to mention the best. Versus with the DAKAR rally. Robby Gordon has finished 3rd overall!! Don't see many entries about that. What a shame! Gas on ROBBY!!

1pm SPEED show was taped on Friday night. Not a live show.

Anon 2:40PM,

I am not even going to mention this. What a bizarre start to the season on SPEED.

Fluff, movie promos, and the avoidance of a sport in crisis like never before.

We have said many times that things in TV come full circle sooner or later.

So far, this season on SPEED looks a lot like the first season of NASCAR Now on ESPN. Maybe they can get hold of Erik Kuselias, last I heard he was hosting a Saturday morning radio show.

Are you sure it's not a promo for Kevin James' new movie, Mall Cop? I'll eat my hat if they give one shred of NASCAR news that matters.
D.W "might" say something about the economy, but it could be the same as last night at Barrett Jackson, when both Mckeel Hagerty of Hagerty Insurance, and the head of Ford motorsports(can't remember his name, sorry)said that the economy is fine, as Hemi cars that sold last year for 800,000.00, sold for 63,000.00
