THANK GOD I loved the ending of this race..and it was not another viewing of

Wish this was a points race but nevertheless, happy to see smoke win. :)

looking forward to a good post race. please!!!!!

DW is right. He did not give Tony a lot of credit all night long.

bevo said...

JD,

And he said Smoke would take Kenseth out... clueless.

Anonymous said...

DW....he won the IRL championship, the USAC triple crown, 2 cup titles.....maybe if you quit drinking the Kyle Kool-Aid you might quit making dumb statements

Daly Planet Editor said...

Let's try to put the Mayfield stuff over on the Mayfield story please. Thanks.

Lou said...

ground hog day

too funny, but true

Dot said...

How could DW even know others were on the track. He was too busy obsessing about SDDD.

Vicky D said...

Good for TS and team. Too bad my favorite finished 2nd but at least he didn't get wrecked.

Sophia said...

kbaskins

WHO TWEETED that about Jeremy??

Odd Mayfield is at the track if NOT allowed.

Defiant attitude?

not good

Anonymous said...

DW needs to be replaced with a professional analyst with some intelligence.

Karen said...

What a feel-good win. Makes up for first 90 laps of nothing.

Charlie said...

Those last 10 laps were Good.

Sophia said...

what is the deal Tony had to stay stopped on the track.

TOO OLD and TOO FAT to climb the fence. lol

Mike said...

Before the last caution, you could see Stewart making a charge towards Kenseth & Busch....yet they never talked about him as being a factor during the caution period. They kept on talking about Kenseth and Kyle Busch.

However, a very exciting call to the finish by everybody. The thing ESPN's guys can learn from these guys is be observant!

red said...

and all star buddy is now finished for the evening. wow. race buddy used to hang around longer than that. all in all -- not so great.

and can i just say that i actually was thrilled to hear excitment from the booth in the 10 lap shootout? sure, i wish dw would take it down a notch but you can't deny how wonderful it is to hear honest emotion at the end of a race.

my favorite moment? when the caution came out for debris and larry mac said what we've all said or thought at one time "WHY? Ah, no, no, no!"

Ken-Michigan said...

Once again NASCAR takes every bit of emotion out of a hard fought victory by telling Tony to STOP in turn 2.

you have just lost one of the most emotional moments of a driver's career by telling him to STOP .... unbelievable !

Ain't it the truth, Ain't it the truth sophia says in her best Snaggletooth impression

(OLD cartoon for those under 50 :-)

Charlie said...

Sophia - Tony had to stop there for them to setup of the winners circle. At least that is what the guys in the booth said.

Anonymous said...

DW can not "freestyle"..he has to stick to the script.

Unknown said...

Haas is there! His first race back

Sophia said...

Tony!! What a fantastic interview saying it might have been Ryan and he would've been JUST AS HAPPY!

LOVE that guy..he is really maturing.

kbaskins said...

@ Sophia: Mayfield stuff is in the Mayfield thread, including the link to the story about the NASCAR rebuttal.

I've only seen the one source yet.

@Charlie

Thanks, I heard that about setting up winner circle but not sure what that meant.:)

darbar said...

Classy Mark Martin. Darrell needs to stop the love fest with Shrub. He needs to realize there are a lot of other great drivers on the track.

bevo said...

Let's not get too sentimental about Haas being there - there's a good reason he hasn't been around for several years.

And I'm a Smoke fan.

Unknown said...

bevo he said he was innocent

Anonymous said...

Hass & Hendrick have at least one thing in common.......

Lou said...

the HH w/voda and hammand is a good mix. real professional and real not fake. just racing.

darbar said...

Bevo, didn't he just get out of the pokey?

Unknown said...

he got out last Friday. 2 days early.

Lou said...

remember victory lane is up next as per JD. thanks all

Anonymous said...

Tony won & VL is creaming over Kyle? I'm gonna go now folks

bevo said...

Yep, two years for fraud and tax evasion

Ken-Michigan said...

"One of the ultimate races you could ever ask for"

quote from Jimmy Spencer !!!

let the P.R. spin begin....holy cow

Unknown said...

way past my bedtime

bozo said...

what they are really promoting is that most of the races should be shortened then we would have more excitement...600 miles will be a sleeper until the last 50 laps

bevo said...

@Ken- It's an old saw : people remember a race as great if there were lots of spectacular wrecks or if there was an exciting finish. If you get both it becomes legendary. :)

Haus14 said...

it may be time to change to HAUS14!!!

Dot said...

@ haus14, yes you should. Tony's the real deal. He seems much more likeable now. Ownership agrees with him.

The J said...

aah what a relief to finally get the all star race over with, no more "x amount of days til race!" spots or the allstar memories thing.

Mike said...

This reminded me a lot of recent Daytona 500s....ride around for the first 90% of the race and then turn it on for the finish.

Sophia said...

I hear Shrub is pouting so far and NOT doing interviews.

Such a class act and great loser.

NOT

Anonymous said...

sophia,
you're half right about shrub...
he is NOT a class act
he IS a great big loser!

Haus14 said...

Haus20 is now Haus14

Dot said...

@ haus14, congratulations.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Maybe not the best idea to park the TV stage on the frontstretch?

Haus14 said...

If they can figure out how to make the first 90 laps half as exciting as the last 10, they would have the best race of the year every year.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Thanks everyone for stopping by, there is a new post up about the entire day of TV coverage.

Have a great Sunday.

JD

Lou said...

tony stewart on VL very good

Dot said...

@ JD, thank you.

XOXO

red said...

GREAT answer, smoke: "hey, we don't gotta do anything quickly! if we run this show over two hours, i don't care!"

so very true, so very, very true!

and now his voice is shaking with emotion. yeh, he's a real harda$$, isn't he?

and now: "who knows when i'm gonna end up tonight? and who knows when i'm gonna wake up?"

hate him or love him, he cares about his guys.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the blog tonight JD

I was able to get thru a shower & still saw Tony live on VL. He has changed so much since becoming an owner!

@haus14 - congrats on getting your new number!

Have a great Sunday all.
