Live Blogging The Mods And Trucks In New Hampshire (SPEED - 1PM ET)

Here we go with the two most entertaining races of the weekend. As the seasons wind down, both the Whelen Mods and the Camping World Truck Series are ready to explode.

First on the track are the Whelen Mods at 1PM ET. Mike Joy and Dick Berggren will be in the TV booth to call the action. Bob Dillner will be reporting from pit road.

This big and fast flat track will either show the Mods at their best with bump drafting and passing into the corners or at their worst with lots of accidents between drivers arguing over space late in the season.

The high speeds have the potential to showcase this series to the national TV viewers at a time when the Mods are struggling for sponsorship dollars. On the flip side, this is a series of tough guys and rough driving. Let's hope the racers and not the brawlers decide to show up.

Mike Joy knows the field quite well and this native New Englander who now resides in North Carolina keeps himself quite current on this series. Joy and Berggren are the perfect pair to call this race.

Speaking of perfect, the hard working Krista Voda has once again this season presented the Camping World Truck Series pre-race show called The Setup without a glitch. Like Wendy Venturini, not too much intimidates Voda who has a long history in motorsports TV.

This week, the man who CWTS fans either love or hate is back...again. Michael Waltrip stormed the broadcast booth earlier this morning for the CWTS qualifying session on SPEED and talked more in the first fifteen minutes than Johnny Benson did last weekend during the entire race.

Waltrip certainly brings an enthusiasm to the coverage, but it is still tough at times to have two former drives in the TV booth. Waltrip and Phil Parsons often wind up comparing their driver-oriented views on issues rather than offering other perspectives.

Rick Allen will be calling the action with Ray Dunlap and Adam Alexander on pit road. Allen should get himself ready for this one, as the tight tempers from last week have already resulted in Kevin Harvick and Matt Crafton being spoken to by officials...and that was during practice!

This post will serve to host your comments about the Modified and Truck Series race on SPEED from New Hampshire. Just click on the comments button below to add your TV-related opinion. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thanks and let's have some fun today!

Hopefully when the HOF is complete in Charlotte there will be some fresh ideas when the Chase comes. I really think an open fan Q&A would be a great idea.

It just feels like NASCAR is trying too hard to get their brand out there which might be turning some people off.

If people haven't cared about NASCAR the first 26, why are they going to tune in for the last 10? With the way the coverage has been anyways people who know nothing about these teams or their stories would be even more lost because the stories get missed every raceday right now from ESPN.

Reorganizing the Chase schedule would help. SC should be one of the primary places they need to focus on when the "playoffs" start because every other sport knows ESPN's coverage is one of the best places to promote. An NBC talk show fails to do that IMO.

@JD--Yes that's the bad thing about "instant" access 24/7/365(6). Someone hears a soundbite and it's on 8 million sites in 30 seconds. And without knowing the rest of the story it's too easy to judge them on a quick soundbite taken out of context. I don't blame him for wanting to leave. I'm sure he was up at O'Dark thirty and probably a few minutes to eat and not much downtime.

@Vicky--I agree don't understand why Happy's upset with Grampa? Aside from the obvious miscommunication that's still ridiculous! There was another situation last year with Ryan. It came down to Ryan getting his trifecta and pulling over to let Grampa win. Ryan went for the win but it was a hard situation to be in.

My understanding of the Ginn thing is that when Teresa bought Ginn that was her entity, but when Chip bought into DEI he bought into the 8 and 1 only, Teresa/Ginn was considered a separate entity.

Bill Davis is listed as owner of 22 this year.

Either way, too confusing to start with, lets just go back to the old provisional 36 on speed system and be done with it. I hate the top 35 for this exact reason.

@JD - Did NASCAR tell ThorSport to remove the name "Buford T. Justice" from McDowell's truck? Did you hear anything?

Did not get an answer on that one. No idea if the real name needs to be there on the pro series.

Will update it if MW answers...

"The Franchise"

"Rowdy Busch"

"Mark 'The Kid' Martin"

Doubt that the "real name" thing was the issue

Thinking out loud but maybe it was that they used the whole name of a movie character. Don't know if it makes a difference or not.

Just finished watching the JPM clip. Surprised to see it was Sacramento's local Fox news channel. I don't watch FOX news and it's not the most watched news channel in the area so it couldn't have been seen by the masses. The sports guy does have a call-in radio program on a very popular sports station here that if he mentioned this incident could do more harm than good to NASCAR.

I only got to see part of the middle of the Truck race - but as a Morgan Shepherd fan I can only stand so much of Phil P. in light of what I see as his unsportman-like actions in N-wide series. Not sure which was more amazing, Mike Joy in the booth or Mods on the track.

Remember Richard in N.C., Morgan parked and started for several years. What comes around....

I don't believe Morgan has done a start and park once this year, and probably could have made some more races this year if he had. I'm not positive, but as I recall if Morgan S&P'd in previous years it was so he could race later. It appears to me that MSRP has no intention of doing any racing - just collecting checks and knocking out real racers.
