Live Blogging The Nationwide Series From Charlotte (7:30PM - ESPN2)

Here we go with a very fast and exciting Nationwide Series race from the Lowe's Motor Speedway. ESPN2 is providing the live coverage.

Allen Bestwick will start the day with the pre-race NASCAR Countdown program. Alongside of him will be Rusty Wallace and Brad Daugherty. Tim Brewer will be in the Tech Garage. On pit road will be Shannon Spake, Jamie Little, Dave Burns and Vince Welch.

The broadcast team will be Marty Reid, Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree. ESPN has been working Jarrett and Petree very hard. They will already have been on the air for many hours by the time that the race rolls around..

This is one of the most challenging races of the season for the ESPN Producer and Director. Action happens to fast that using the in-car cameras live or playing back recorded features is almost impossible.

This post will serve to host your comments about the Nationwide Series race from LMS on ESPN2. To post your comments, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thanks for stopping by.

Pretty bad when your PxP guy is trying to get the cameras to focus on the action and the director ignores him!

go
blaney!

Dot said...

Why couldn't they show who hit the wall?

Blaney in 3rd ??!!!

The Loose Wheel said...

Good to see Braun repaying the favor to Dave for last year.

Heard from someone yesterday that Braun also prepared those 87 cars that Conway drove earlier in the year

Jonathan said...

ok now its getting a lil better for now

Andrew said...

GO DAVE!

Sally said...

At least they are bing honest about rain coming...and showing the radar! Much better than being surprised by it.

Steve L. said...

It's like there's two people calling the camera shots, one wants tight and the other want wider shots. Too un-even for me. Back and forth, back and forth...

You start to think it's going to be good for a while and then it's gone.

Vicky D said...

What's the status of the attendance tonight. The stands look rather empty to me.

Sophia said...

ok, the comments are not good, and I just watched LK for a few minutes...will give the race a few minutes.

MISSING all the online radio streams thanks to HS football..sheesh

SUPER tight shots..or useless slip screen..

Daly Planet Editor said...

Those two boxes of racing on this track are just crazy.

Sophia said...

Useless SPLIT screen I meant

Dot said...

Wow, a couple of Odd Wads having good runs. Go Tony & Dave.

I'm getting conflicting comments, anyone?

Andrew said...

@Steve - there might be two people - the director at the track and the head honchos in Bristol.

Beating A Dead Horse said...

@Andrew: Dr. and Mr.

Jonathan said...

Damn and I made sure I told work to let me be an hour late, wanted to watch the end of the race but now it looks like rain????? DOH I thought for sure the rain was done for after yesterday but guess not! The weather man has a lot in common w espns Nascar director THEY BOTH SUCK!!!

Dot said...

dear Sophia, it's you.

How close is the rain?

Poor Kasey.

The Loose Wheel said...

I thought I noticed something weird with that 43 on the side shot.

LOL musta fallen inside the car

Andrew said...

Yikes. Kasey just got hosed by that window net.

Go Mike Bliss! Bit of irony tonight, with the #1 already done, yes?

Jonathan said...

I like Tony Raines, Wish he had a lil better equipment!

Charlie said...

looking at the interactive weather on TWC site it looks like rain maybe a half hour out but if you use the future button on the weather map it looks like the rain goes North of there. So who knows?

Anonymous said...

David - Joey's up to 11th

Patrick said...

Those cars aren't used to actually running, so the #01 parks itself.

Daly Planet Editor said...

well, we got AB and Marty in the right slots, we just need a new Director.

PammH said...

These races just start too late for EDT folks that have a job, like me. I'm ready to go to bed shortly.

The Loose Wheel said...

Tia, I noticed...

LOL, he may just be a factor yet!

I don't think the rain is going to hit in time. Optimism here!

Charlie said...

lol @ Patrick

Andrew said...

@JD - You volunteering? :D

Daly Planet Editor said...

Got a couple of goog auto racing guys out there right now.

No clue why they are doing this, other than the excuse of HDTV.

Daly Planet Editor said...

oops.........good

Andrew said...

Hey, it looks just as bad on HD as it does on regular TV.

Charlie said...

Why not show two windows while doing Up to speed. One for the car they are talking about and the other of some cars racing.

glenc1 said...

thanks jd...I was trying to figure it out....
:)

Andrew said...

Uggggggggggh. Helmet cam under GREEN FLAG.

Andrew said...

@Charlie - I'm just glad they're doing Up to Speed. Pit stops, on the other hand...

Beating A Dead Horse said...

The director is Sergio Leone.

Dot said...

How come they didn't know Keller(?) was in when the crew guy is covering it?

Charlie said...

Are we under green? Is there racing going on?

Andrew said...

@BADH - LMAO.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Full screen green flag pit stops....are you kidding me?????

Charlie said...

Why do Up to speed right before a green flag pit stops?

Dot said...

@ JD, it's in the script. Why else would they do it?

Beating A Dead Horse said...

Can we get a close-up on the 99 car in the pits???!!!

Vicky D said...

Yeah JD, those are the rules made in Bristol - only close shots.

Anonymous said...

Joey up to 2nd and rain coming ...

Umm, raise your hand IF you did NOT see this coming ...

Patrick said...

Guys,
When there is weather in your locale, what do the local stations do? They put a little radar image in the bottom corner, right? So why can't espn, instead of shrinking the action in half and giving us a weather window. Come on.

Dot said...

Tia, you may have called it.

Sally said...

Okay. Now I'm thoroughly confused. Only 3 cars on the lead lap? Was there a caution in the middle of pit stops? Did I miss that?

Daly Planet Editor said...

BRUTAL........

Anonymous said...

Dot - I got an advance copy of the script ... ;-)

Sally said...

So wwe were just in the middle of green flag stops? Why were they announcing it as if it wasn't going to change as more cars stopped! Arrrrrgh.

PammH said...

okay, I have no idea where anyone is here. Now there is 9-10 cars on the lead lap? ~cringing~

Andrew said...

Oh, right, I won't be here tomorrow because I'll be watching the game they just advertised.

The Loose Wheel said...

ugh, die snuggie, dieeee!

The Loose Wheel said...

ugh, die snuggie, dieeee!

Anonymous said...

Caution on commercial ... again ?!?!?

Vicky D said...

Bet those folks in the stands would each like a water-repellent snuggie huh?

Andrew said...

@Pat - Because that would cover a tiny portion of the Almighty Graphics Package

NorCalFan said...

Mr. Extenze just caused a caution spinning. No harm no foul but a caution.

Andrew said...

NIce save by Conway!

Patrick said...

Maybe they'll use that spin in the next commercial???

Dot said...

I knew there'd be a caution. Right after my GF pit stop.

Dave in OKC said...

Does anyone else smell trouble on this restart?

Patrick said...

"You saved your car, now save your night" wink, wink.

Anonymous said...

Did I mention that I HATE that commercial for The Home Depot?? 9 months of it is way too much ...

Charlie said...

Now they could run through the top 20 under caution.

Beating A Dead Horse said...

This is not fun anymore. Did everybody at ESPN quit and go home?

Charlie said...

Why is DJ so quiet.

Beating A Dead Horse said...

Marty Reid needs to call this race like he is on the radio.

Sophia said...

My sister and I were talking on the phone...I didn't care about the race due to @$#^@&#^@& camera work.

SHE remembers when I would NOT answer the phone during the races...

NASCAR, we hardly knew ye. . .

Andrew said...

ENOUGH WITH THE LEADER.

And why was racing in the small box with Steven in the large?

*sigh*

Dot said...

@ Charlie, Is he still in the booth? I haven't heard him in a while.

Jonathan said...

Will something happen to Kyle Busch tonight???? Should be interesting cause sooo many races in the nationwide series has he been leading like this only to get it taken away in the last couple laps! Here we go woop woop ;-)

props to Mr. Tony Raines!!!

Dot said...

There he was. Then they talk over him.

Charlie said...

It is the Marty Reed and pit reporter show.

Andrew said...

It's about to start pouring down rain....and ESPN goes to commercial. Nifty.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Man, things sure got really strange really fast.

Now that you guys have some good TV experience, this is a great example of starting out gangbusters and just falling apart over nothing more than TV fundamentals.

NorCalFan said...

Steven Wallace is going to need more than a few points to move into 5th place. He's 150 points behind Alligator. Bye, bye banquet.

Dot said...

Tia, they changed the script on you. Sorry.

Beating A Dead Horse said...

Walter Thomas Fred

Dave in OKC said...

Don't look now, but Blaney is gaining on Busch...

Dave in OKC said...

Or he was until I possted that...

Dot said...

@ dead horse, ;)

Steve L. said...

Where's the other guys in the booth?

Anonymous said...

Dale Jarrett shines with Jerry Punch because Dale & Andy bounce off each other to do play-by-play. Jerry Punch just does stats, cliches and commercials.

With a real play-by-play announcer, Dale seems like the quiet mouse in the corner.

Dot said...

I can't type, I'm laughing too hard. Glad Steve isn't hurt.

Patrick said...

It wouldn't be a NNW race without a Rusted Son accident. First one wasn't his fault, so he needed to get back out there to make the world right again.

Sally said...

Logano got a penalty? 13 cars on the lead lap? Does anyone know what's going on????

Daly Planet Editor said...

Does not look like rain, but a tip of the cap to ESPN for showing to us all night from the pre-race show.

Dot said...

@ Patrick, oh sure, make me laugh some more.

Patrick said...

Sally,
they mentioned that Joey's rear bumper bar was hanging, so he was black flagged to remove that.

Beating A Dead Horse said...

Nothing funny about this Charlie Foxtrot broadcast is there.

Dot said...

What's NASCAR Banking?

Andrew said...

So can anyone pinpoint when exactly the wheels came off this telecast? My money's on the green flag after the Big One.

Beating A Dead Horse said...

Oh, how could things start so well, run sweetly for a time, and then at the end when lucidity and coherence is needed the most-the craft swerves off into the ditch and crashes like a pirated copy of Windows ME.

Patrick said...

Andrew: 8:00 EDT

Anonymous said...

Dale Jarrett has taken a very long snack break...there he is!

Sophia said...

Marty Reid is amusing himself...wonder if he has a clue of the crap we see at home...I just blew dry my hair...I've NOT watched more than 15 minutes of this race..and that's in bits while multi tasking.

This is so sad to see the sport treated this way..great night time track..and we see...ON BOARD cams.

Steve L. said...

Show the PACK!, Please...

The Loose Wheel said...

Bank of America program Dot. Used to be the BofA 500 the last couple years, now they are promo-ing their program specifically.

LOL, Marty is having fun tonight

Patrick said...

Dot: NASCAR Banking is Bank of America's sponsorship of this race. So, tomorrow's race will be brought to you by toxic mortgages.

Vicky D said...

DJ goes off for a long time then pops up again with a couple of comments. I think RL would have done better - we'll see next week in Memphis.

Sophia said...

Ba dead horse

Your Pirated WIN ME comment was hilarious!!..just got rid of ME on old computer..to XP ;)..old spare desktop

Dot said...

@ David, thank you.

Sally said...

@ Patrick...tomorrow is when they pay out the huge bonus', right?

Daly Planet Editor said...

andrew,

It was the full screen green flag pitstops. We all lost our understanding of who was where and it took almost ten minutes.

We got lost and never found.

Dot said...

@ Patrick, read you after. Too funny.

Sally said...

JD...if we all start singing 'Amazing Grace' do you suppose we can get 'found' again?

The Loose Wheel said...

Blaney gave Bliss a big shot there a couple laps ago.

Love Marty remarking about getting booted from the #1

Great battle for 2nd, good action all around

Dot said...

I bet Bliss, Blaney & Raines weren't in the script tonight. Hee hee.

The Loose Wheel said...

Time for speeds at the line

Charlie said...

What is sad is they have all the stuff to make it work. They shows us that once in a while.

Patrick said...

Kyle deserves a break for leading so many laps. Let's give him a caution before the end. please.

Jonathan said...

damn what a brush of the wall!

Daly Planet Editor said...

What a shame this thing caved. I bet Marty gives them a piece of his mind after this one.

Beating A Dead Horse said...

Ya really think they hired Reid to be a leader?

Anonymous said...

Boooooooooooooooooooo

Daly Planet Editor said...

MartySmithESPN - So, Cup drivers racing NW cars is the best racing we have right now. Hmmmmmmm...

How about that quote from Marty as a final comment on this BS?

Charlie said...

what was that, it was like someone said show me racing and the director got mad and said see it is there, and there and there. See.

Vicky D said...

Nice shot of Bliss & Kez

Andrew said...

The finish line (or lack thereof) was un be-frickin-leivable. Thanks Marty for the rundown.

Anonymous said...

I hate when the original script plays out like this ...

Anonymous said...

What a junpy last lap! Something happened to Allgaier, he fell from 9th to 12th

Sally said...

Well, I'm done. Busch dominates Cup lite, JJ dominates Cup. Oh my. How exciting. I'm ready for bed now. Peace out.

Dot said...

We could have seen them cross the finish line and Kez & Newman too if they used the right camera.

Outlook not too good for us tomorrow.

Steve L. said...

BOO KB won.

Beating A Dead Horse said...

And The Flying Head Motorsports Network concludes another amazing broadcast. Walter Thomas Fred.

Charlie said...

Where is the rain they talked about, over and over again.

Sophia said...

Well, glad I did not DEVOTE HOURS of TV time to this race.

Once again reading comments and doing other stuff more fun than the race on tv.

Deja vu all over again with &^$%#*(@ dreck camera work & Kyle carpet bagging, er, I mean winning the NW series.

Thanks JD and everybody for keeping me posted of what I WAS NOT MISSING while doing other things, talking on the phone, watching part of Larry King, goofing off,

Dot said...

Oops, Bliss. Saw yours VickyD.

Patrick said...

50 minutes left in this broadcast. what will they do? what will they do?

Anonymous said...

It is a shame the hard work by Marty Reid is ruined by the tv truck after 13 laps. The pit reporters did pretty well tonight. Andy Petree was solid, Dale Jarrett was there...sometimes. It is the most simple things that drag the coverage down.

Beating A Dead Horse said...

@ Sophia: Yes! Carpetbaggers is the best term yet for the Cup car drivers running the Nationwide races. TY.

Patrick said...

well, there's one good think out of this night. sophia's hair is clean. sorry, can't think of a better storyline than that.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Got a little time to fill boys!!

Beating A Dead Horse said...

America's Funniest Home Videos?

Daly Planet Editor said...

Patrick, there is a lot of fashion pressure here at TDP.

Anonymous said...

Dot - It was the original script that had Kyle winning (after his "trouble) last week ... They tried to make a last minute change with the "pink" pages, but the pink pages got lost ... ;-)

Jamie - 11 races w/o a win!?!? Gosh, Jamie ... Other drivers have gone longer without a win ...

Vicky D said...

Now Jaime is asking him about getting out of the car last week???

Anonymous said...

@Dot--with the economy and bailout mess instead of BOA branding it like they use to it's now NA$CAR Banking something or other.

And Kylie wins again :(

Sophia said...

WOW! A blaney siting!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Next week is NOT gonna be pretty

Memphis has a history of double digit cautions ... I think over 100 in the last 3-4 yrs ...

Dot said...

@ Tia, don't you hate when that happens?

Bliss, now Blaney. This has to be killing BSPN.

Tia, maybe some other pink pages got through.

Beating A Dead Horse said...

I think DJ pulled a Jayski and went down and washed his car about mid-broadcast.

Anonymous said...

Dot - I hated the original script ... and I hated the edits ... LOL The pink pages are the edits ... I think the green page edits snuck in & ripped up the pink page edits ... ;-)

JD - You better stock up on the Tums / Rolaids / Pepto Bismol ... Next week at Memphis is gonna be U - G - L - Y

itsonlyrockandroll said...

Incredible over 300 posts here.
What could I say .. other than to
get rid of Marty Reed forever.
Trying to tell us who is who and
who is passing and who is 2 laps
down and who is going faster.. Do
YOU THINK THE REGULAR FANS CAN
follow any of that ??????
beyond all belief ...At least stop chattering for a few minutes
go back and review the tapes and
then quietly go to the truck and
watch...it is simply out of control

hey didja see that number 4 and the 29 car there and the 6 and they
are well er ah

Dot said...

@ dead horse, is that like Chuck on Happy Days?

Vicky D said...

Now the rain comes!

Dot said...

Raines????? OK, now I'm shocked.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Much better from the ESPN pit reporters tonight, but man the Director is just nuts!

Talk about a buzzkill.

Sophia said...

Patrick! LMBO! yes now my hair is clean...maybe tomorrow night I will do some foil highlights during the race...maybe get out the webcam and send out bubbletweets of that. More entertaining than this stuff.

B A D Horse

YW for Carpetbagger term. So true.

Tonight is PROOF, does not matter WHO is in the booth.

CAMERA work makes or breaks a race and it's KILLING THE SPORT.

Dot said...

@ Gymmie, good point. I didn't even think of that.

Dot said...

Off at 8/11 PM. If this were FOX, Cops would be coming up next.

itsonlyrockandroll said...

Jabber jarrett and handy andy do
NOT DO WELL bouncing off each other. They clog up the air waves
We dont need it ..we can see it for
the most part..
We dont need speculation on who will win and what they are doing..
We need great camera work..great
coverage of the SOUNDS OF THE ENGINES..U KNOW like at the track
I GIVE UP..

Sophia said...

JD

You more patient than me. I've called the director a buzz kill for months. :(

So difficult to grasp this has gone on for YEARS!! and the past several months even WORSE.

Patrick said...

Sophia,

I'm jealous. You have hair.
