Let's go racing boys! Here we go with the warm-up for the Daytona 500. The Bud Shoot Out has a wild field of all kinds of drivers. It may be fun to watch and the weather is windy, but no rain.
Fox is entering the tenth season of covering NASCAR. On this telecast, the cast is the same. Chris Myers will host from the Hollywood Hotel with Jeff Hammond alongside.
Mike Joy will call the action with Darrell Waltrip and Larry McReynolds with him in the TV booth. On pit road are Krista Voda, Steve Byrnes, Matt Yocum and Dick Berggren.
Fox is ready to go and NASCAR is ready to race. This event may go a long way toward erasing the painful memories of the final ten races and the endless emphasis on Jimmie Johnson and Hendrick Motorsports.
Before the Fox coverage, RaceDay on SPEED marks the debut of Kyle Petty. Let's use this post to include comments on the RaceDay show.

amazing. in qualifying all hendrick motors except Stewart were in top 13. 4 in top 6. tonight everybody except Stewart is struggling. wonder what the 500 has in store.

Brings up a good point. Has anyone ever watched TV with kids in the room and the Enhancement commercials come on? How is that handled? How is it handled when the kids pull for the products cars?
My experience is that the commercials always make me squirm while viewing TV with my Girlfriend. I don't know why, it just does.

I vote for joking about it. NASCAR decided to let them sponsor cars and commercials on all broadcasts, therefore the family-friendly deal is off the table as far as I'm concerned, but you have the final call, JD.

boyd there is a delay. minimum 7 seconds, then add for normal sat delay. maybe 20 seconds or so delay.

That type of content and also R-rated movie promos have been a topic for us over the last three seasons.
At one point, even the TNT promos were for programs featuring nudity and adult themes.
Once we see how Go Daddy, ExtenZe and the movie promos play out next week we will know where things stand.
At attention, I would assume. If the ads are right, anyway!

Please forgive me for being a newbie with your Blog site, I love it. But, this is my first year in 19 not working the Daytona race or any after that so I hope to participate a lot more. It is a lot of fun to interact with the fans!

Andrew. That may be true but it was specifically listed on Thursday as the race "MUST" end under "GREEN"
thats why we are confused.
It said nothing about one attempt at a GWC

Seems every time the 29 challenges for a win at Daytona and comes up successful, Armageddon happens behind him. NASCAR has a new superstition to follow.
Wow, Kasey slams Dodge by complimenting Roush-Yates Ford. And this is after saying last year that he wanted to stick with Dodge. Maybe he'll end up sticking with Petty et al after all.
well, the usual mayhem at the end of the RP race. Biffle on old tires and Gordon with 4 new ones on AND NASCAR said go for it with bump drafting.
Didn't look to me like Jeff was bumping, but he sure was pushing.

during the Nascar live segment before the ARCA race, Dave Despain and Ken Squire were going over the shoot out rules and must end under green was said and also on the graphic. don't know how that happened but i am confused.

JD, you are right. Chris is stumbling a little, which is totally strange for him.
Disappointed that this race ended under yellow. Hopefully NASCAR will tweak that for next year. A great race ends with an anti-climatic finish.
What a fantastic broadcast. Far superior to anything ESPN pushed on us last year. They avoided practically all of ESPN's negatives; FOX didn't even have a story for this race (as they usually do). Wonderful camera work, especially on pit road, catching full stops and the race off. Energetic announcers and a good booth. No tech car and very little Digger, though I suspect the former was due to the shortness of the race. And as for the latter, here's hoping that he's as limited in the 500 as he was here. Still, the rodent is a small price to pay compared to ESPN.
All-in-all, a near-perfect broadcast!

Remember the Truck race at ORP in 2004? Probably 6 attempts at a green-white-checker. That's why we have the one-attempt rule. We don't want to be in for a long night.
The only reason why I'm bringing up this male-enhancement stuff is because I thought we were supposed to be "family-friendly". We're allowed to talk about ExtenZe and a hard place, but not allowed to fire off a string of four-letter words. I wanted to know what the deal with that is.

Email me with this issue. We are not going to change our stance on profanity. What we are going to try to do is figure out a way to deal with the adult oriented products we may see in NASCAR this season.

useless tidbit. That race was Memphis not ORP. It was ugly.
I do think in an exhibition format though, we should go till we get a green flag ending, or at least the white flag is in the air

WELCOME! Sorry to have missed the live blogging interaction but visual problems continue after some surgeries.
we thought way too many in car cams tonight. wanted more wide shots. I would've been here posting but had to watch race with cooling packs on eyes..complications from Narrow angle iridotomy surgery...so kept eyes closed during the sound of in car cams & commercials.
Bummer race finished with crashes...and they need to get rid of the grass on all the tracks. Coudlnt believe way the splitter/mud issues blew up the hood on Kurt B's car. Scary ride for him.
Good to listen to the guys in the booth but to be honest, camera work bugged us a lot tonight (My room mate who's not into NASCAR that much but loves this short shootout) was yelling show us the race.

Ramsey Poston from NASCAR just told us that this event was scheduled to have one attempt at a green/white/checker and that was told to the guys in the driver's meeting.

Just heard on FOX Sports radio that, allegedly, Jimmy Johnson (the ex-coach) is the new spokeman for ExtenZe.

This is why some compare NASCAR to WWE. They change the rules and don't tell everyone. If the drivers were told normal GWC rules then fine, but apparently there was a thought at one time about having the race end under green and NASCAR didn't tell FOX & Speed that there was a change. Hence, all of the fans are under the impression that this race is going to end under green.
Obviously this specific scenario won't happen during the regular season, but how NASCAR makes rain calls during the season would be the biggest inconsistency that they have to do a better job of explaining.
I clearly remember the Truck race being ORP, because I remember it being mentioned before the Brickyard 400.
If you guys have no problem with ExtenZe jokes, have at it. I find the jokes funny, but I was just concerned over whoever may find this offensive.
i wouldn't even be so sure that this type of thing won't happen during the season. to be flat honest, i gave up trying to explain what happened at the end of the race to first-time viewers who were over watching the race.
Something along the lines of...well there are two laps left, but because there is a wreck on the first half lap of the restart we'll just call the race over and whoever is ahead at the time wins. What???
This might be the only event where you wouldn't have an actual "end" to a race. And when trying to save old fans and get new ones, starting the season this way is not going to help.
The whole point of this race was all or nothing and finish under green. Thats what was pushed the whole week. Very sad ending to an interesting race.
If NASCAR wanted regular rules then they should have told the TV partners and promotional groups.
BTW that ORP truck race was epic in the end. Fitting end to the no limit Green White Checkers of truck racing.

Fine if it was a GWC finish, but on the lap 2 restart and caution, shouldn't the GWC finish have come after that caution? I thought GWC took you to OT? In other words, if there was a caution on the last lap, you get one chance at a GWC restart. Wouldn't that mean if you have a caution at 2 to go, then you do a quick restart (or redflag and then restart) on the last lap into a GWC finish (or final caution, whichever comes first). Alternatively, you restart after the 2 to go caution on the first OT lap and that is your GWC or final caution, whichever comes first?? I think that is where I was a bit confused.
