Live Blogging Camping World Trucks In Michigan (1:30PM - SPEED)

One of the best racing series on TV is NASCAR's Camping World Trucks. Quietly consistent for years, the production values and focused announcing has kept the fans coming back again and again.

Today at 1:30PM Krista Voda starts coverage with The Setup pre-race show. Voda will double-up as a pit reporter once the pre-race is over. Adam Alexander is off working on the TNT Sprint Cup telecasts, so Voda will join Ray Dunlap on pit road.

Rick Allen, Phil Parsons and Michael Waltrip will call the action. These three have been very effective since Waltrip discontinued his endless sponsor mentions and attempts at humor. The trucks always have stories to tell and the challenge for the TV booth is simply to tell them.

Old school TV coverage consists of focusing on the racing, period. The last truck race turned out to be a barn burner and the big MIS oval could make for some super action. There are several Sprint Cup Series drivers, like Elliott Sadler, crossing over to the trucks who would really like to return to the winner's circle in any series.

This post will serve to host your comments on the SPEED coverage of the MIS truck race. To add your comment, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thank you for taking the time to stop by The Daly Planet.

That was a great opening shot of Krista and Pit road. Maybe the Fox gurus is watching and listening to day.

Rick opened like he was tired. No excitement. Maybe a long night at the hotel bar. Or, he was on Spirit Airlines and had a bad flying day.

nice segment on James :)

He did the ARCA race and also doubled up last weekend. This is the time of the season when the real grind begins.

Great jib work, Lesson from TNT.
Who is producing?

Daly Planet Editor said...

That is how to host a pre-race show!

Daly Planet Editor said...

It's the truck series crew, Keith and Roger.

Wow, nice pre race. Move them to Fox next year if no one else grabs them.

Someone should tell Michael Waltrip that his hair is sticking up over his headset.

Gymmie said...

Yup I love Keith & Roger :)

You know what the saying is, "Less is More"? Speed proves it with their broadcasts of the trucks.

Someone should tell Michael Waltrip to get a haircut and shut the heck up.

Keith and Roger are dialed in baby!
Much netter than the Fox dudes.

Two people trying to call a wreck creates havoc. Rick and Phil were battling to call what happened during the first caution as it was taking place.

Nice triple split to catch the Crafton issue.

Havoc. come on man. That happens with the action.

Never seen that air pressure rule before on pit road.

MikeC said...

Same here.....must be one of those "Truck Series only" rules. My guess is MW had it right when he said they probably didn't have the valve stem capped.

Gymmie said...

I hadn't either JD :(

Being told you can adjust it on the grid before the race, but can only adjust it on tires that are about to go on a vehicle during the race.

Hmm, learned something news. Pass through penalty.

Sprinkles around the track!

Nice mention of Les Richter's passing by the SPEED TV team.

Good guy and one tough hombre.

Maybe this is a local cable issue, (Comcast Bloomington IN), but the picture quality seems off for the track cameras: pixelated, jerky, somewhat blurry. Commercial and promo images are fine.

One of the most notable parts of last week's TNT Cup broadcast was the super sharp image quality.

Questions: Does Speed use different cameras than TNT? Can the overcast weather affect the quality of the broadcast images? Just curious.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Oh man, this is not good.

Daly Planet Editor said...

The TV compound has lots of shared equipment, including cameras.

TNT pics are the same as the others, just HD signals.

The normal trouble is in the transmission path to your home just like you suggested.

Both tracks (Michigan & Kentucky) both dealing with spotty areas of rain. No big cells....again, just spotty stuff. Just enough to ruin things.

diane said...

What will happen with F1 qualifying? Will it be shown on time?

Patrick said...

diane,

Sorry. Qualifying for the F1 race has already happened.

This is a good call, to fill the rain delay with more Le Mans coverage.

Jonathan said...

Hello everyone, darn must be raining bad in Michigan cause Speed just went to the 24 hours of Le Mans! Not my cup of tea but better than anything else on tv so speed stays on but hope it clears up soon so speed can get the truck race in! hows the weather look JD?

Vicky D said...

Just got home from errands and it's raining at Michigan. Watching recorded laps before I make a comment about the broadcast, although Mikey seems to be yakking a lot already!

MikeC said...

MRN is saying the sun is shining around the race track at Michigan. Looks like the remainder of the Truck race and Nationwide qualifying will be running side-by-side, provided it's not raining at Kentucky.

Jonathan said...

man being so use to Nascar, those yellow lights on the le mans cars look weird! hard to watch

MikeC said...

Drivers have been called to their trucks. Will be going back racing soon at Michigan.

Jonathan said...

woohoo thanks for the update Mike!

@Patrick. I'm talking about the coverage of the F1 quals which are scheduled to start at 1:30 PT. Will it be pushed back due to the delayed truck race? I'm trying to see if I need to change my DVR.

MikeC said...

My guess is F1 qualifying will get pushed back. They might air it between the end of the Truck race and the 24-hour race, still.

They've re-fired the engines on the Trucks.

MikeC said...

Should be going back green in about 2 to 3 laps.

Patrick said...

diane...i smell what you're steppin' in. it struck a chord with me, since it's never "live". don't have an answer for you, but if I were you, I'd extend your DVR by an hour or more.

Patrick said...

College baseball running long on ESPN. NW Qualifying up next per the bottom line.

Patrick said...

Game Over. NW Q next.

Patrick said...

But first, another end of a baseball game. Sheez!

Daly Planet Editor said...

Weird TV day so far!

Patrick said...

Another BB game over. Any more before we get to qualifying, even though 7 have already gone. Finally, we're in KY.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Looks like TV is delayed from the leaderboard.

sbaker17 said...

Great final 10 laps

Daly Planet Editor said...

See everyone tonight at 7:30PM for Nationwide Series TV action on ESPN.

Gymmie said...

Congratulations to Aric and Billy Ballew :)

I was a little behind the broadcast trying to catch up from the rain delay and wondered why anyone would want to interview KyB if he doesn't win??? Not a very good one they could have interviewed David Starr and he would have said he was very happy with his 8th place finish!
