Live Blogging Sprint Cup Series in Pocono (12PM ET TNT)

Here we go with the first of six Sprint Cup Series races on TNT, but the story of Sunday is not the TV network, it is the weather.

Thunderstorms are expected in the area all afternoon and the teams are ready for a very long afternoon. TNT is perhaps the network that may have the toughest time filling a rain delay. They have no other NASCAR programming and if lightning shuts the TV compound down, it may be movie time for NASCAR fans.

It will be Lindsay Czarniak hosting the telecasts from the infield stage with Larry McReynolds. Joining that duo for the pre-race show will be Kyle Petty. McReynolds has the same cutaway car back for this season.

It will be Adam Alexander, Petty and Wally Dallenbach Jr. in the TV booth. This trio worked a session of practice on Saturday and sounded quite good. This is the first time calling play-by-play for Alexander and TNT really took a leap of faith on his selection.

TNT will return the online RaceBuddy application. Jim Noble, veteran PRN reporter, will be the dedicated online pit reporter working only for RaceBuddy users. There will be multiple cameras and online Twitter and social media feeds as well as live chat.

Kyle Petty has lead the way in social media interaction with fans and Adam Alexander told me this week he expects Petty to handle the live tweets in the TV booth. It should be interesting to see how year number two of this direct fan interaction works.

TNT has a history of showing NASCAR in a very different way than FOX. While FOX concentrates on one or two cars and the announcers talk about the video, TNT uses wideshots and follows the racing on the track all the time. Last season, this "old school" approach worked very well for the network.

TNT is integrated with the NASCAR.com website. Each race morning, a member of the TV team will host a live chat with fans. For post-race, the TNT gang will use NASCAR.com for live video coverage and reports.

This post will serve to host your comments and questions about the TNT coverage. To add your comment, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thank you for taking the time to stop by The Daly Planet.

Wow, this thing is drying fast.

Anonymous said...

@David --

Yeah, but Phil is on the Waltrip board of directors. JD's point about this is well taken.

The Loose Wheel said...

Oh that I did not know.

I've grown to care less and less about these alleged conflicts of interest because it seems EVERYONE has some conflict of interest anymore...

Anonymous said...

They should interview Michael McDowell and ask if he had any brake issues on the pace laps.

Ben Florance said...

i believe one of these days that the prism cars will be racing
both blaney and mcdowell are god drivers and i think theyre building to be a competitive team down the road

sbaker17 said...

All of you that miss DW, raise your hand.

I thought so...........

Anonymous said...

Race will start around 3:50 and we can race until 7:15 or so. That's not gonna cut it. I can see it already. They're going to screw someone with like 25 laps to go, controversial call to end for darkness with some scrub in the lead.

Daly Planet Editor said...

B-Flo,

Run over to the NASCAR Insiders blog to see the reality of PRISM and why I raised that point.

I think it is question #6 on Ask the Insiders Wednesday.

The Loose Wheel said...

3:50?! We should be green by 3 PM

Anonymous said...

B-Flo - Phil has no intention to race his cars. All that matters is $$$$. Blaney & McDowell are only there to remain noticed at the track and earn a paycheck to support their families. I agree they are great drivers and deserve much better when the economy improves.

PammH said...

I'm impressed w/the rain filler so far.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Watching RaceBuddy, this is really drying fast.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Tarps coming off cars, crews being asked to return to pit road.

longtimeracefan said...

With the sun out now, 20-25 mph NNW winds and the drop in temps and humidity, the track is drying faster than expected. Looks good for the green around 2:45 and checkered at 6:15.

The Loose Wheel said...

team radios starting to get going again.

Good to see this piece again

bevo said...

Great rain filler by TNT

The Loose Wheel said...

NASCAR not allowing the teams to even check air pressure. we are just about ready to go again. BRB

Chadderbox said...

Really nice segment about Richard Petty! I thought that was just awesome!

GinaV24 said...

Man, what a contrast to the way that Richard Petty feels about the fans than what it seems that the "modern" race driver feels.

He appreciates the fans, rather than trying to talk down to us or make us feel like we don't matter.

What a great piece. Yeah a man with quite a LOT of talent, not just as a driver, but as a person.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Did you guys see the pavement problem on the frontstretch? check RaceBuddy.

GinaV24 said...

Phil up for an interview with Kez -- glad that Kez didn't feel the need to break that guitar into pieces.

sbaker17 said...

That "divot" will take some time to repair. At least it is out of the groove. Remeber Daytona?

GinaV24 said...

oh no, not a problem with the race track! if they have a problem and rain, this race will NEVER get going.

longtimeracefan said...

Is that a pothole?

GinaV24 said...

is that one of the infamous weepers of Pocono?

PammH said...

When they first spotted that problem & the pace car stopped, they pulled the camera waaay back-umm.

Chadderbox said...

Looks like they have large track crew on the frontstretch looking at the pavement.

Is this Daytona all over again?

I remember that there was a water seeping/weeping?? problem in the tunnel turn a few years ago.

Ben Florance said...

im liking what ive been seeing from the tnt pit reporters they're talking to everybody and getting a lot of work

GinaV24 said...

they haven't talked about the race track problem in the booth yet

Jonathan said...

Why does Kyle never clear his throat ughhhh COUGHHHH lol comeon

GinaV24 said...

ah, there it is! good for them for not ignoring it.

OK, I have racebuddy and the TV on and it is out of sync -- that's going to drive me crazy -- I guess I need to DVR the TV to syn them up.

Ann_Ominous said...

Adobe Flash player does not work on 64 bit Internet Explorer. You have to run 32 bit IE on your 64 bit machine for anything that uses Flash player. It goes into a nice little error loop on IE 64 bit trying to download a new Flash version for it that doesn't exist. It will make you think it's allright, then give you the download message again

Jonathan said...

Gina theres an option to turn off and on HD picture on Racebuddy, i dont have HD on this tv and turned it to broadcast stream in its maybe a tenth of secound off its perfect

PammH said...

pssst, Gina-mute the TV-that's what I did.

GinaV24 said...

I agree, the pit reporters are actually getting used. What a concept!

If TNT maintains this level, ESPN had better be ready to step up their game. We know Fox has already been left in the dust.

GinaV24 said...

Jonathan and PammH, thanks!

Jonathan said...

Gine right click Quality and choose the speed option

Jonathan said...

Gina sorry im typing fast lol

Anonymous said...

Is that cake icing?

The Loose Wheel said...

"Put the truck out there with the arrow on the hole and we'll go around it."

42 team communications

GinaV24 said...

Is anyone here besides me tired of listening to Larry Mac?

longtimeracefan said...

Great shot of the track guys fixing that hole.

The Loose Wheel said...

Major props to TNT for getting down there and showing that

GinaV24 said...

look, its a puttying party! wonder if they'll break out the bondo?

The Loose Wheel said...

42 reporting Bono Manion saying going to take 45 mins to get ready and drivers may get called out of cars again

The Loose Wheel said...

Lap 15 will have competition caution

GinaV24 said...

I tried the simple thing of muting the TV, but I'll try your suggestion too, Jonathan. Thank you.

The Loose Wheel said...

NASCAR leaving the cone on the hole until lap 15, Juan asking if you get a penalty if you hit the cone. Team laughed at him and said don't hit the cone, firing up the cars in a couple mins. So much for 45 minutes

The Loose Wheel said...

Engines fired.

rich said...

thought the rain filler was handled as well as could be.
Really enjoyed the long segment on Richard Petty. I had not seen some of that before

longtimeracefan said...

Just put some cones around it and tell the drivers that anyone who runs over it will be have to do a stop and go.

bevo said...

@Gina- Right there with you, I've had enough Larry Mc for the year. Gives me horrible flashbacks of the F word network races.

GinaV24 said...

ha! that worked AND I even figured out to mute that without losing my scanner

Appreciate the help, Jonathan.

GinaV24 said...

longtimefan -- LOL - the crew chiefs were saying that too - looks like NASCAR actually listened -- just get on with it.

Jonathan said...

Gina did you find what im talking about? that option is synced w the digital tv stream

Jonathan said...

No problem... I think thats a new option cause last year I hated the fact it was never synced w the tv so I never used racebuddy! This is sweet im excited to be able to have this.

W_Rabb said...

Perfect timing made a run to the store and getting back just in time for Green

The Loose Wheel said...

Jonathan, I was actually ahead of tv last year which was nice. I muted TV

GinaV24 said...

I did, Jonathan. I think you're right about it being a new feature and it's great. I know it made me aggravated last year, so its nice to be able to sync it up.

BTW, Adam Alexander has done a good job so far, now we get to see how he does in PXP -- hopefully better than Vince Welch did.

Call the race, Adam. Its why we tune in.

Sally said...

It certainly is nice not to have a crawler covering the bottom of the screen.

GinaV24 said...

Nice camera shot of the start. Who was that who shot all the way down to the bottom?

Tell us.

GinaV24 said...

This is a race much better seen on TV than in person.

W_Rabb said...

"It's just hard to go that slow" That gem just came from the master of slow Wally Dallenbach.

Anonymous said...

racebuddy has a rather length delay today it sems

GinaV24 said...

OK, can someone PLEASE call the race? Not converse -- call the race!

Jonjathan said...

thank you thank you thank you TNT for race buddy bad storms hitting my area and the tv is cutting out. Nascar needs to get this going on ALL of there broadcasts!

Sophia said...

My rooom mates laptop will NOT let us go FULL SCREEN with RB?

He's not here, not sure what's wrong.

ALSO HOW DO WE TURN OFF CHAT next to RB???

The Loose Wheel said...

Something I noticed in my SD feed, TNT has shrunk the screen ratio, about the top and bottom half inch of my 20 inch screen are black....

GinaV24 said...

Well, I have to go or I'll be late. Have fun.

bevo said...

I'm afraid Adam might think his job is to ask questions and throw to commercial... hope I'm wrong.

Sophia said...

ok..something was stuck on LOOP on RB settings..unchecked it and NOT full screen...Firefox is getting on my nerves these days & this laptop does not ahve CHROME or OPERA (I use BOTH for some sites!)

Anonymous said...

oops missed the memo about the slightly delayed HD/DVR racebuddy (which is awesome) or the choice to live streeam it

GinaV24 said...

So the 42 and the 88 almost hit the wall -- did we hear that until now?

GinaV24 said...

Bevo - I think Adam's problem is the same one that Vince had -- he's reporting NOT calling the race.

The Loose Wheel said...

87 off track

GinaV24 said...

Anon - yeah, me, too. Fortunately Jonathan was able to help me out.

Go to quality on racebuddy and switch to sync with broadcast.

It works great.

Uh, I did say I had to go!

bevo said...

Just a thought - if you had a two man booth it might force some play-by-play.

GinaV24 said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
W_Rabb said...

No one calls sports on TV any more espically racing its more coversation on tv because you have pictures

Sophia said...

Sorry not liking this booth, no offense..too many questions....Miss last years booth. Kyle & Wally are fine alone.

Heck, I got so I liked Weber last year before his unfortunate dismissal.:)

GinaV24 said...

I don't think pictures are enough -- I want to hear PXP, too.

Plus a lot of that was just conversation, not related to what was happening on the track.

GinaV24 said...

Sophia, at least Ralph called the race.

Jonathan said...

I knew I wasnt going to like Adam! Bad move TNT I think Ralph was better

red said...

ok, RB wizards: i don't have a leaderboard on RB. can anyone help with this?

Jonathan said...

17 books lol DOH

Sophia said...

Bevo

Agree with two man booth comment.

Sigh. I can't get sound to work on RBuddy on the tv....my room mate removed "HDMI SOUND OUT" & now no longer works on the second HD tv in living room.

I wanted RB on two tvs so didn't have to use my eyes to be online as much.

HDMI is very important we discovered :(

PammH said...

I haven't heard any PxP yet...not liking it so much.

Anonymous said...

Adam just feels awkward. Kyle & Wally gel great as usual. Adam tells corny jokes, cliches, reports, and asks questions.

His voice and diolague make it seem like he is trying to impersonate a play-by-play announcer. (just my opinion)

The Loose Wheel said...

Good lord that 66 got alot of wedge and trackbar adjustment

Sophia said...

Yes RALPH needs to be back in the booth. AA can go where Ralph is now, nobody out a job and works best where they are needed!

Bad move FIXIN something that wasn't broken TNT.

Seems to be the way with NASCAR this year.

(iStillMissTWIN)

Bucky Butler said...

I had my doubts about this PxP experiment. Maybe it'll get better but I'm not sticking around to find out. TV's muted. MRN on the stereo. I'm thinking it wouldn't take Ralph long to get from pit road to the booth.

The Loose Wheel said...

71 off

The Loose Wheel said...

55 and 36 pulling off

Ben Florance said...

racebuddy is awesome

Jonathan said...

Look 3 wide and no excitment what so ever from the booth???? The radio guys would be all over that with excitment! Just calm chatter from the booth! Come on do they even like racing?

RWar24 said...

Seems like a lot of dead air. As previously mentioned, AA needs to call what he's seeing on the monitors and not worry about setting up comments for Petty and Wally.

Vicky D said...

I wonder if having this new PXP strategy will work out. I need more excitement, but this is Pocono.

red said...

guess i'm looking at it differently: because the visuals are so much better this week, i have no problems listening to the booth talk about the wide variety of isuues they've covered so far as opposed to hearing traditional PxP.

i can SEE what's happening around the track with a minimum of bells and whistles so i'm not missing PxP as much. the ticker is keeping me current and i'm loving these LOONNNNNNGGGGG shots that the truck is calling for each lap.

i'm enjoying dallenbach and petty giving insight as to lines being chosen, who's doing what and why.
i could do without the #14 in-car but that may be the "RB effect."

Daly Planet Editor said...

So far, Rick Allen is winning the play-by-play competition for the weekend.

Jonathan said...

hate to say it but I already miss Fox

MikeC said...

I'm actually liking how Adam's calling the race. He's got a great delivery. Welch just sounded too monotone last night. One thing I'd suggest for TNT, though, is to give us a top 5 as they go to break.

longtimeracefan said...

Ditto Red, it's a long race, the excitement will come later.

Sally said...

I agree about the camera shots...I feel more informed asto what's hoing on in the race. Is it me, or is the ticker moving a bit faster so it goes thru the field more quickly?

red said...

jonathan: not being sarcastic as i'm curious: what are you missing right now that fox provided?

Vicky D said...

Did we hear what happened to Kurt Busch?

Daly Planet Editor said...

Nothing like auditioning on national TV.

OSBORNK said...

Just give me good video. I don't need so much opinion from the booth monkeys. I can see what is happening if they will only show it. I can't hear anything when I am at the track anyway.

I watched a good bit of the battle on Racebuddy and it seems to be the Dale Jr. channel.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Valve stem or cover on a tire.

Sophia said...

jonathan

You gotta be kidding me?

I'd take these FABULOUS LONG SHOTS with muzak in the booth over some other stations.

Vicky D said...

Thanks JD, missed that on KuBusch. We picked him to win.

longtimeracefan said...

Fox RaceTrax is about two laps ahead of RaceBuddy's leaderboard plus it has more info.

Jonathan said...

Red

well for one more excitment! I miss Mike Joy hes much better than Adam as well. TNT has a better aproach with the camera shots and being on top of things though. Oh yeah and I always will miss Crank it up when Fox leaves

MikeC said...

I'm glad we're getting camera views of cars on the track, and not an overload of in-car views.

Anonymous said...

Jonathan - I think we all got it a while ago you are very biased towards FOX. That's your opinion and thats cool, but no need to force it down our throats.

Jonathan said...

Dw and Larry mac may ramble on but at least they have passion when they call the races. Not this I feel like im at picnic not the races. Had the same problem with ESPN last year

red said...

hey jd? can you ask RB gang why no leaderboard and race timer/lap count working today?

Vicky D said...

My RB leaderboard is working except it's about 5 laps behind tv.

red said...

jonathan: thanks for the answer. i'm not in agreement with any of your reponse but i appreciate the answer.

The Loose Wheel said...

They may have passion but they talk about 5 cars. I find it funny they go to the n-th mile to show every car in qualifying yet they can't talk about every car in the race. It's a joke to me.

Mike Joy is one of the best I'll give you that, but this year he was down and he got stomped on by Larry and DW and it showed. Put Joy with this booth, I'd be ecstatic!

Jonathan said...

your welcome thanks for not jumping on me lol but thats just my 2 cents.

Anonymous said...

Adam is dangerously flirting with Dr Punch territory so far...

Jonathan said...

David I agree 100% with you Fox needs to focus on the raceing and not 5 cars that is so true TNT much better and even ESPN Nationwide races this year

rich said...

my leaderboard on RB is 2 laps bethind. Finally got the audio and video sync'd

Daly Planet Editor said...

After the rain, RaceBuddy was lagging but has been slowly catching up.

Big difference in transmitting the online video and computer scoring and just uplinking a video TV signal.

Jonathan said...

I hope JPM has a great run today! hes 5th now, last year he had a shot to winn the race but Denny made a move when someone got into JPM! Could this be his day? Whos everyones pick to win this afternoon

Daly Planet Editor said...

"Piranha" the movie! Right.

red said...

vickyd: thanks. right now, i've turned the tv over to the chef so i'm hesitant to reboot RB -- especially since i can get the info from other leaderboards if i want to do that.

Anonymous said...

Adam needs to lay off the jokes, it just makes me cringe.

MikeC said...

I guess I've just gotten so used to a "top 5 reset" graphic as the networks go to commercial break when the race is in green flag conditions that I wish TNT would do so as well.

MikeC said...

TNT is showing you don't need gimmicks and gadgets to put on a good race broadcast. Also this race is enjoyable to listen to and watch since it's not as cluttered with all the sponsored pieces Fox has during racing conditions.

Anonymous said...

Jonathan...regarding your 'I knew I wasn't going to like AA'...have you ever heard of a self-fulfilling prohecy? You'd already made up your mind....

as for 'crank it up'....I consider that the biggest waste of time since the ridiculous thing of ESPN having all the radios on.

since it's his first race, I'm trying to be *open* minded. Same as with Vince. But I agree with JD, Rick Allen is the standard bearer this weekend--they ought to listen to his tapes.

Patrick said...

#17 too Fast Exiting

Jonathan said...

Anon i've been a Nascar fan for a while now and have heard plent of Adam on Speed for years. hes to soft spoken and I felt he wouldnt fit the role. Dude you think im just pulling this out the air???

Jonathan said...

were over that anyway im done dont wanna cause some trouble, lets talk about the race

Patrick said...

With all my RaceView issues, I missed the "excuse" for Joe Nemechek's parking. So far:
39 55 Brakes
40 66 Overheating
41 36 Rear Gear
42 164 Rear Gear
43 87 ???

David?

red said...

RB pit road screen is wonderful during these green flag stops! as i said: i'm enjoying such strong visuals that i don't even care if the commentary isn't matching what i see on the screen. i'm watching the race the way i want to but still hearing what's going on elsewhere.

having RB reporter during the commercials is great as well.

not sure i'll be able to rpovide much on how the booth is doing since i'm watching on RB and having a great race!

Daly Planet Editor said...

Nice seeing chunks of cars racing, all the green flag stops and working the pit reporters hard.

The Loose Wheel said...

I kind of agree with Jonathan here, when I heard AA getting this gig it made me go "what?!" Shaheen is the vet of the 2 because Ralph calls so many other racing series and sports he knows what the role is and how to do it well. AA is still learning the ropes and throwing him to the wolves in the Cup Series is unfortunate because he is only going to have 3 races MAX for us to either like him there or dislike him no matter how open minded we are trying to be

The Loose Wheel said...

Like last week with the 46, gotta say I am impressed with the 26 still on the lead lap so far giving it a go!

Patrick said...

#71 OUT Electrical

MikeC said...

Could get fun here in a bit. Kurt Busch is about to go a lap down.

Jonathan said...

man a lot of empty seats at Pocono today???? Thats not good I can remember last year it was rained out and on Monday and there was a better crowd than this

Vicky D said...

I thought of refreshing racebuddy to update leaderboard then I lost the other views. And leaderboard has squeezed into a small column so it's hard to check out where the drivers run.

Patrick said...

#46 Brakes

Sally said...

Dog tracking! I finally heard the term I've used for years for those 'crooked' cars!

Daly Planet Editor said...

They need to tweak RaceBuddy some for the next race.

MikeC said...

There's definitely a lull in the racing at the moment. MRN isn't even utilizing their turn announcers at this stage of the race.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Despite Adam learning, it's so much easier to watch. No agendas and following what is going on throughout the field.

One thing I do not like is ignoring the start and park cars. I think they should be called out then the go off.

Daly Planet Editor said...

duh....."when they go off."

W_Rabb said...

I like the overall TNT Product no hype just talking and showing racing AA could be better and yes we could have more PBP but I think TNT and Turner as a whole put out good broadcasts of all their sports properties and AA will probably get better with time ... if not Ralph gets a promotion

Daly Planet Editor said...

from ESPN's Terry Blount: I've never been in a coma, but it must be a little like watching this race.

longtimeracefan said...

The way these cars drive loose off naturally, it doesn't make much sense to come out of the corner with your right rear crooked out like they are now. Seems like that would only make it more squirrelly. Looks weird too.

Sally said...

A typical Pocono race. I'm surprised we haven't had a 'debris' caution to close up the field yet.

red said...

ahhh, AA! i was on your side until just now:
'it's kez-LOW-ski, not kez-el-OW-ski!"

sigh

Lou said...

watching and enjoying racebudddy. it was a pleasure to watch the green flag pit stops on racebuddy

bevo said...

Really hate it for TNT that they have to do Pocono. Not much to work with.

OSBORNK said...

I like the distance back expressed in feet and inches rather than tenths of a second. I can relate better when they are close.

Lou said...

lol, when he got kez name wrong, i thought of you red.

MikeC said...

Good job by TNT to stay with the battle of Bowyer trying to put Kenseth a lap down until the mission was completed before going to commercial.

longtimeracefan said...

If Terry Blount was comparing the Indy race at Texas last night, to this one so far, that's a good analogy.

red said...

bevo: can you just IMAGINE what this broadcast team could do with a race that's more interesting than pocono? give ya' shivers to think about it!

Vicky D said...

Where's the debris, Nascar?

Vicky D said...

Red, someone interviewed Kez before the race and said his name wrong but Kez didn't correct him.

W_Rabb said...

"They should have some sort of fan loyalty program where you get bonus points for watching the Pocono races from start to finish. I mean, if you think about it, the true, DIEHARD NASCAR fans are sitting here watching this race. This isn't for casual fans today."

Jeff Gluck

red said...

vickyd, i know (sigh) and i don't usually correct someone more than twice when the mispronounce my name, either.

but again: it's unprofessional to get it wrong on broadcast tv. it'd be like spelling it wrong in an article b/c "it's too hard."

just makes me crazynuts bats**t!

MikeC said...

They'll probably wait and throw the debris cautions in the 2nd half of the race.

MikeC said...

There's the caution for debris.

OSBORNK said...

I don't have a problem with the booth because to me, TV a is more visual medium and I will take better visuals any day. Besides, I'm sick of fake enthusiasm (DW is an expert at fake).

Vicky D said...

If Nascar had just thrown the debris caution just a few laps before Matt would have gotten the free pass.

Anonymous said...

this is the disturbing thing about nascar.. was there really debris? if not, was there a reason for waiting for the lucky dog to be mcmurray vice kenseth? Just gives you that WWF feeling?

Jonathan said...

WWF feeling? are you kidding me??? To me this is the same as a timeout in stick and ball sports. Nothing more nothing less its a part of are sport. Every sport has a chance to stop and regroup

Vicky D said...

Anon at 4:46 maybe Ganassi is better friends with Nascar than Roush right now!

The Loose Wheel said...

They gotta dump the cruddy restart pylon graphic and pit exit graphic

Jonathan said...

now thats what this party needed look at that woooo

Daly Planet Editor said...

Jonathan, it's called a "show caution." If the show is stinking you spice it up with a caution. No other professional sports does that.

OSBORNK said...

If NA$CAR had honest debris cautions, they could point it out to the TV broadcast and let the fans see it before or as the caution was thrown. It would help get rid of the fake feeling we all get. If we don't see it, I and most other people figure it was never there and simply a manipulation by NA$CAR.

red said...

hey jonathan? was that enough excitement in their voices over an authentic event: going FIVE wide right there?

not ragging on you but that's the difference between an announcer getting excited and a RACER getting excited.

Daly Planet Editor said...

I thought they had dropped those bad pit out elements and pylons.

Giving them some grief about it right now.

The Loose Wheel said...

Jonathan, races used to run caution free. We don't have TV timeouts, either the race has a legit caution or it doesn't. When a "debris" caution flies without debris on the track, you are deliberately changing the outcome of the race by changing the circumstances the race is run in. Guys get to do things and bunch the field up under a false pretense, therefore make passes under that, making it a phony race.

Just my 2 cents tho.

Anonymous said...

Jonathan- Are you kidding me? A debris caution which regroups the field, has a phony "lucky dog" and phony "waive arounds" is the same as a timeout in basketball? No way--unless taking a time-out gives you five extra points. The debris cautions are why no one trusts Nascar to be a real sport anymore.

Daly Planet Editor said...

That restart was a total failure for Adam Alexander. He is just reporting now and has left any hint of excitement behind.

bevo said...

@Jonathan- Except this isn't a stick and ball sport. It calls into question the integrity of the sanctioning body.

Sophia said...

It is SO NICE to walk around the house & have a tv on and "Enjoy the pictures as they fly through the air" -as Tom Snyder used to say!

If only NASCAR UNDERSTOOD GOOD TV RACING BROADCASTING!!

Pictures mean everything.

Look at them all over the place coming AT THE CAMERA!

NASCAR should be THINKING about the problems with Foxs/ESPN truck production but sadly the suits are too arrogant to CARE!

TNT DESERVES more races!

LOVING all the wide shots coming at us. Headlights not tailights+wide shots = HAPPY VIEWERS. The end

Haven't been this excited about RELAXING & watching a race since last year with TNT!!!!!!!!!

jonathan said...

to each there own and yes that was some excitment in the booth but dont forget Petty and Wally are former drivers so what are you saying? i guess if you consider this a show, but I consider it a sport. So no other sport has stops when there not performing well we have 43 teams out there not 2 so its not like one team can say ok time out, we would have 100 cautions a race. So to me this is like a timeout. whatever who cares

Richard in N.C. said...

As someone who is not fond of public speaking, I don't believe doing live TV is as easy as most make it appear. I still watch and enjoy Raceday, including Spencer and Kenny, and don't find either condescending. At a minimum, it seems to me that both are more knowledgeable and credible than Phil Parsons. I am really surprised that Parsons pushed S&P'ing so much being on the air.

the wwf part is when they wait to throw it depending on what driver is where... at times it seems they are thrown to help certain drivers - which if they are not, you open yourself up to that accusation by throwing fake cautions to begin with.

know what i'm liking about this broadcast? i can tell what's going on by just watching the screen and listening to the booth. i'm on other screens b/c i choose to be, not because i have to be in order to know what's going on!

also, no painfully embarassing driver bumpers going into commercial: just the track, a voiceover some music and right into commercial -- or RB, in my case.

Like we talked about all FOX season, bad directing crushed those races.

This is completely different. You know what is going on from the pictures and the graphics.

The announcers are the icing on the cake, as opposed to having to explain who was where.

That was DW's problem this year, as he told stories we had no idea of what was going on.

I like Lindsay she has a smooth feeling to her, sounds like she belongs!

I find myself unfortunately busy again during the race and can't get in on the regular conversation although I am watching. However, I did want to take this quick moment to pop in and say, despite some obvious criticisms, watching this race is like...is like...is like having been outside working in the hot, humid sun moving 100-pound sacks of manure all day and then, after getting finished, walking into a cool, air conditioned house...so refreshing.

I think MRN has started a new feature. They've got a pit reporter designated to report who's out of the race. Just now he gave an update on those out of the race, and why. Basically a way of telling us who's S&Pd.

Mike, TNT really made a mistake not telling us who is out.

As much as you must be all happy for a change of pace after obsessing over fox coverage, lets face it, Dallenbach and Petty are literally just babbling endlessly about nothing. It's scary bad, if Ego-lite.

Jr in the top 10 woohoo

jd, could tnt's omission in re: reporting on S&Pers be a consequence of their pit reporter decision?

This is the first time I've felt as if I knew what was happening on the track without having to use at least 3 other sources of information! Great job just showing the race. The pictures are much more important than the comments from the booth.
