Live Blogging Sprint Cup Series from Atlanta (ESPN - 7Pm ET)

This holiday edition of the Sprint Cup Series race from Atlanta Motor Speedway is ready to roll under the lights tonight.

Allen Bestwick starts the coverage with Brad Daugherty and Rusty Wallace from the Infield Pit Studio. Tim Brewer is in the Tech Garage. This is a short pre-race show so the pace should be fast. Expect ESPN to focus on the Chase and the guys on the bubble.

Marty Reid, Andy Petree and Dale Jarrett are going to call the race from the TV booth. On pit road are Dr. Jerry Punch, Jamie Little, Dave Burns and Mike Massaro.

This high-speed track has been the cause of much frustration in the garage. Tires fade away quickly and may be the story of the race. The field stretches out quickly and clean air is important for passing. Quick pit stops are crucial.

ESPN repeated a frustrating scenario on Saturday night during the Nationwide Series race. Rarely was the aerial camera used and the director continued the pattern of slowly zooming in with the cameras during each segment until only two cars were being featured. The actual racing on the track was often lost.

Races this time of year are critical and only good fundamental TV coverage by ESPN tonight is going to hold the attention of fans who have lots of other sports TV options.

This post will serve to host your comments on the ESPN coverage of the Sprint Cup Series race from Atlanta. To add your TV-related comment, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by The Daly Planet.

Should be a good one. Love Atlanta and enjoy this style of racing unlike most. Handling is such an important part of running here, and should ESPN keep the race in perspective and points to a minimum, I think we'll have a good show!

Happy Race Night Planeteers! Hope everyone got their naps in we'll be in for a long night :)

See that friends of the Oak Ridge Boyz are singing the Anthem tonight :)

Running to the store for some snacks and other noms

I have all my necessary safety equipment. I'm ready for the race!

I think we will see some surprises tonight.

Wishing everyone a good race and a safe holiday. :)

LVI56 said...

Look forward to a good race. Not looking forward to "points if the race ended now". Let's see a good race first, sort out points later.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Amen to that, some NASCAR writers have been discussing that today and how TV goes overboard with those stats.

Anonymous said...

The report on Jeff Gordon's foundation was very well done. I like hearing what these multi-millionaires do off the track.

I admit I haven't watched Race Day for ages;they seem to have toned it down.

BTW, has anyone ever heard about a Rusty Wallace charitable foundation?

Looked like Todd Bodine in that "sir have you been drinking tonight" commercial!

Good Sunday evening, fellow Planeteers. I'm avoiding all the pre-race --- saving my energies for the race.

Got the chef salad with boiled shrimp ready to go, so no time will be lost getting food.

*fingers crossed* ESPN doesn't screw this one up. I'll be happy if Rusty loses his voice, and they forget the "points as of now".

SMU is just 8 points away from tieing this game up against Texas Tech and it is 5 minutes from the prerace.

Rachel said...

Good news! It looks like Texas Tech is gonna beat SMU.

Anonymous said...

3 hours 32 minutes and counting for this college football game. Yet ESPN STILL continues to use 3 hour programming windows for these games. Insanity!

Rachel said...

The prerace is on ESPN, yay!

Martin Vincent said...

I guess it's not so bad that Canadian viewers have to wait for the CFL game to end then. Thought you guys were in Countdown without us.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Whew!!!!!!

Martin Vincent said...

CFL game just ended on TSN.

Andrew S. said...

That was a great game! I was hoping Winnipeg would come back, and it means less time watching the pre-race stuff.

Ann_Ominous said...

I do think I remember hearing about a Rusty Wallace Charitable Foundation. Most drivers do have one. Some are just more active than others.

Vicky D said...

Just a few minutes late to wait for the ending of the football game. Oh no, there's Rusty . . . .

The Loose Wheel said...

going to be interesting...

Nan S said...

Stan the Man just put a beat down on Murray. Okay, switching from tennis to Nascar.

Vicky D said...

Oh no now we have TB. What a long night it's going to be . . . .

PammH said...

That's 2 pieces from NN this morn so far.

Anonymous said...

@ ANN O: thanks for the info.

They all have charitable donations for tax purposes.

Many:Gordon, Stewart, Newman, Biffle, Sadlers, etc. promote and participate in their good works.

Just don't remember Rusty ever promoting anything except himself.

Surprised there is so much pre-packaged stuff. Just like yesterday.

RaceDrive.com said...

You guys are awesome !

Love the comments ....

The Loose Wheel said...

Got nothing really good to say about the formula used by ESPN for their pre-race. I'll leave it at that.

MV, start and parks?

Nan S said...

Okay, back to Tennis. I'll watch Isner for a while and come back where the race has started.

The Loose Wheel said...

Ella is absolutely the most adorable kid in the garage area!

Sally said...

She is a cutie! I can't wait till some of the other drivers kids get big enough to be around like JG and JPM's kids!

Sally said...

Weather sounds great in Atlanta. Had a picture perfect one here in MI today. Spent all day outside. Hope I can stay awake for the whole race!

Daly Planet Editor said...

Kind of wish AB was calling that race. Nothing against Marty, but AB is really on his game right now.

Sally said...

What...they have Hulk Hogan announcing at the track!?

Daly Planet Editor said...

I think he is doing just about anything for money these days. LOL.

The Loose Wheel said...

LOL.

Well JD...I think this was a pretty solid anthem...

Debby said...

WooHoo!!! Great job on the anthem!!!

Mary said...

Anthem was good but sounded a bit Disneyesque?

Martin Vincent said...

@David - 87, 36 and 55 are my onyl guesses for S&P tonight. Pretty sure 46 and 26 are racing the full distance tonight.

Daly Planet Editor said...

That was pretty interesting. No clue who those guys are.

WB said...

Ernie Haase and Signature Sound - Southern Gospel's finest!

LVI56 said...

Liked the anthem. But the invocation was a little much in my opinion, at least there were no sponsor plugs.

The Loose Wheel said...

Yeley said TBR still has a few full races left to run so we'll see...

51 yr. fan said...

NA$CAR should hire who ever selected the singers to secure
more people of the same caliber.

I'm reading some good pub for
Bodine calling out Kryle. NA$CAR
will probably not let The Onion
pass inspection next week.

majorshouse said...

Now that is the way to sing the National Anthem and would have expected nothing less from Ernie and Signature Sound and loved the invocation as well.

longtimeracefan said...

Man, that NASCAR promo was way overproduced.

Sally said...

I'd say The Onion gave it his best "Have at it" about Kyle. I'm not saying it was intentional, but I can guess how Kyle would have interpreted it if Bodine did it to Kyle.

Anonymous said...

Anthem musta been pre-recorded ... The guy on tv left had his lips / jaw moving BEFORE the vocals started ...

Gibbs is too much for me ... One of his former Redskins is screwing up something here in WA state ...

Daly Planet Editor said...

They have been pounding that same black and white NASCAR promo down our throats day and night since it started to air.

We are going to come to hate it. Why do they always do that?

Sally said...

JD, it's like all the hype for 'the chase'. They can't just let the drama happen, they have to CREATE IT!

The Loose Wheel said...

tia it did sound pre-recorded ill grant you that

glenc1 said...

I don't like Rusty as a broadcaster, but he's really not a bad person. Yes, from what I've heard he likes to make money. And keep it. But he's also given a lot of time (and probably money) over the years to charitable causes. A lady I know has a son who was a huge Rusty fan growing up. He attended so many appearances that Rusty would recognize him & chat with him, even picking him for go-kart races & such. We just need to get him out of the booth is all.

Anonymous said...

"I do think I remember hearing about a Rusty Wallace Charitable Foundation."

It's main goal is the find a cure for the "common sense" Steven is lacking.

Barb said...

I thought the anthem was great!

51 said...

With all the drama that SPEED and
ESPN want to create with their
filler programs maybe they could
have one like the Idol that would
allow them to select some new
announcers.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Rusty has not been the same since he got totally lost in Montreal and wound up sounding like an old man. That really flustered him.

In real life, he has a good sense of humor and is a pretty good businessman using lessons he learned from Penske.

Sally said...

OMG! We already got the, 'if the chase started now' line! ACCCCK

Martin Vincent said...

@David - A quote directly from J.J.'s Twitter page about this race: "I know we wont run the whole race"

Daly Planet Editor said...

Classic line tonight from Twitter:

"If Junior and Danica had a baby delivered by Brett Favre, I'm pretty sure ESPN would implode”

Anonymous said...

Applying the pressure...riiiiight ESPN. Two guys over 100 points are soooo close to getting the 12th spot.

Johnson not mathematically in? Shut up Punch. Who made you say that?

Oooh if one of the two wins they are the #1 seed with a meager 10-point advantage.

ESPN sucks.

51 said...

Think Rusty's station wagon persona
from the commercial has taken over?

Anonymous said...

"If Junior and Danica had a baby delivered by Brett Favre, I'm pretty sure ESPN would implode”

As much as those two are important in NASCAR terms, there's no comparison to Favre in terms of coverage from ESPN. There's a handful of others to mention, but Lebron James, any Yankee or Red Sox player, and a few others that would trump any Nascar driver as far as coverage is concerned.

The Loose Wheel said...

thanks MV. im not a twitter person so i don't keep up with that. Just know he mentioned they have 3 races left this year to run

Darcie said...

ok THAT was how the National Anthem should sung. What a fantastic job those guys did. Whomever hired them from Atlanta needs a BIG high five.

Vicky D said...

51 yr old fan - Todd Bodine will be randomly chosen for drug test next race for sure!

Anonymous said...

just got into the race after 8 laps and BAM! commercial. you would think they could go more than 10 minutes without commercials. pathetic.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Well, close-ups and in-cars on lap 3. Might be a long night.

This is when ESPN got off the rails last season. They beat us over the head with the "might get into the Chase" stuff endlessly.

Vicky D said...

By the way, I thought the anthem was terrific hubby decided to reboot the server so I had to reboot my computer to get on the internet. Aggravated as heck right now!

Darcie said...

Sheesh, ten freaking laps and commercials. This is bad

Darcie said...

I hate freaking Dish. The signal keeps going out, for no reason.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Get ready, the commercials are going to be flying tonight on a track like this. Especially if it stays green.

The Loose Wheel said...

Todd would know about driving people dirty, he's made a career of bonehead moves and racing people too hard too early or at bad times so the fact that he is calling Kyle out on it is comical. But it will be a fun rivalry nonetheless.

Todd makes some valid points, but he is still a bonehead IMO.

Good racing further back, not seeing a ton of it right now. Cars about to get lapped too

glenc1 said...

frankly I think RWI would probably benefit it Rusty spent some more time & effort there.

BTW, the Bodine piece was very thoughtful. Didn't know Todd had it in him, but he gave very specific examples and didn't trash 'the kid', he actually complimented his talent.

Loved the Mark Martin bit in pre-race. I hate that Chase ad already. Ugh. And Harvick looks about 50 in B&W.

Jonathan said...

I do like the blimp cams so far I like thos broadcast a lot more than Bristol!!!! We will see though its early

BTW Hello to everyone Happy Labor Day Weekend

Sally said...

I hate all these '...driver so and so has to place X to get in the chase'. Can't they just let the race play out? A lot of us out here don't really care about the stupid chase, just want to see a good race!

glenc1 said...

Todd is not the same guy he was back then--most people do change over time. Finally grew up I guess. Perhaps someday Kyle will.

Darcie said...

Did you read all the complaining the IRL guys are doing? Seems they don't like the fact that they're having to race close together and that most of the teams are so even that you have to race hard. Now, what wrong with that? Isn't that what racing's all about?

Anonymous said...

@tia--yes the Anthem was on Memorex :(

Commercial Fest 500 :(

Vicky D said...

Sally I agree with you - I wish ESPN would just have a great telecast and not worry about the stupid Chase.

Jonathan said...

Sally its like that in all sports it is what it is... I mean the Chase is in 2 weeks away and it is a big part of are sport no matter if you like it or not its not going away so I have no problem w it as long as we get a solid broadcast all around

Jonathan said...
This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
Sally said...

Guess that's why I don't watch most other sports.

The Loose Wheel said...

glen i disagree with you on that because i see flashes of it from time to time the way he's run some of the plate tracks and the deal with i think crafton last year at gateway or milwaukee was another example.

but as i said the other night I haven't forgotten when he took out Terry Labonte at Richmond in 2002 like 10 laps into the race. Enough said for me. He has a gift and is flat out fast but IMO...

There really is good racing here right now though =]

MarkS said...

Racing stock cars and racing open wheel cars inches apart are two different things. IndyCar really needs to get away from that before someone touches wheels and a car ends up in the stands.

And there basically are two teams that win all the oval races. Not that there's anything wrong with someone dominating but it's definitely not wide open.

Sally said...

20 laps between ads. I'ts going to be a long night.

longtimeracefan said...

Kyle B. is only 25. Seems like in today's world, 25 = 18. Give him another 5-10 years. If he keeps his numbers up, he'll be one of the best all time in NASCAR by then.

Martin Vincent said...

Conway going another lap down, at this pace, he'll be 17 laps down at the end of the night.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Other than Indy and some classic races, it's still weird to see IndyCars trying to put on NASCAR show on ovals.

They can't pass, it's very dangerous and the races are won in the pits or on fuel mileage.

Weird choice for a featured show.

Vicky D said...

I don't see ESPN's lovefest with JJ tonight so that's a good thing. It also looks like Marty got a new haircut. Doing a pretty good broadcast considering all the commercials.

The Loose Wheel said...

LTF, Im a big Kyle fan, but what RD said about calling him one of the best ever already was over the top. He is great no doubt but exactly like you said he needs to keep the numbers up for another 5 or so years and win a couple titles to earn that.

You cant be one of the best ever without having some kind of dynasty.

Pit stops in 6 laps

Darcie said...

David, I can't stand whenever they compare Kyle to Earnhardt Sr. Kyle is talented, but talk to me when Kyle wins one more championship than Sr, which would be 8. Plus, I think it's unfair to compare one era with another, like trying to compare the Celtic of the Bird era with the Lakers of today.

Jonathan said...

JD thats why Nascar is so awsome I love ovals and wish Speed would go to all Nascar all the time and maybe we could see some Nascar Candian Tire Series races I miss though remember Cascar lol

Darcie said...

I'm surprised that Conway is a start and park. When Robbie Gordon drives his 7 car, he never starts and parks.

glenc1 said...

You know...Jamie Little has not been doing half bad this season. At least she can get the words out. But then, it was always the interviews that were her Achilles heel.

d said...

Kyle is going to be PO'd big time

The Loose Wheel said...

Darcie, I dont even consider Sr the best ever personally but I won't get into that can of worms. This sport is so subjective based on what team your with at what time and who your racing against, etc.

But yes, comparing across eras no bueno.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Think old RG is broke.

OSBORNK said...

I think Kyle is more a Tim Richmond kind of driver. Both could get into anything without practice or even being terribly familiar with the crew chief and win. Tim was not cut down early in life by AIDS brought on by his lifestyle. Who knows what he could have done had he not gotten the disease.

Anonymous said...

Kylie speeding...naughty naughty naughty

Martin Vincent said...

@Darcie - Surprised with Conway dropping out too, if the 26 or 38 has a good race, the 7 will be close to dropping out of the top 35. And Conway cannot qualify a go-or-go-home car.

Vicky D said...

Looks like ESPN is still having audio problems tonight.

David said...

Is anyone having trouble getting audio to play on Nascar.com? Both the online site and my Sprint App are having audio problems. I love this site and all of the great discussion that goes on here, btw. (always wanted to say that, not trying to butter you all up)

Daly Planet Editor said...

David, they say unless you clean out your cache it's a mess.

Anonymous said...

I'm gone. They just do not get how much I hate 2 car camara shots. MC

The Loose Wheel said...

The 7 will probably come out and run some laps, but Robby has said if they dont have the funding they will not run the race. As long as they don't get a ton of pressure from the 26 or 38 in owners points, they will start and park.

But yes, JD may be pretty close, RGM is going broke. Or Robby realizes NASCAR ain't gonna work out.

Kyle saying vibration, rear wheel may be loose

The Loose Wheel said...

what JD?

glenc1 said...

Sad about Robby. But probably predictable. You know, I think he got into this because he realized he wasn't good at being an employee. But it just doesn't work well anymore unless you have a lot of support--he got hurt by the manufacturer changes too.

The Loose Wheel said...

18 coming for loose wheel

Jonathan said...

Conway is on the track now just saw him

Martin Vincent said...

Blaney in the 38 might give the 7 team a fair fight, I know Front Row is not a team that produces a lot of top-20 runs, but Blaney is a solid competitor.

The Loose Wheel said...

all 43 cars are on track right now

Darcie said...

So far, I'm having more fun watching the two new baby fawn in my backyard, playing with their mamma, than the "excitement" on the track.

Daly Planet Editor said...

2 car shots are useless on a track like this. Wideshots, aerials and big shots of backstretch and dogleg make the difference.

Might be a long night. Did I mention that?

51 said...

Sally said...

I'd say I wonder if BZF ever watches the broadcasts, but I know better. Plus, he wouldn't know if it was good or not.

The Loose Wheel said...

JD what were you saying about clearing cache or whatever? you confused me good sir

Daly Planet Editor said...

David, to operate the apps on NASCAR.com you have to start with your computer cache clean and your temp files deleted.

longtimeracefan said...

Osbornk, Richmond was an anomaly. He was also a freak, (in an oddly appealing way). Too bad he's not around now.

LVI56 said...

Anyone else notice that wheel Tim Brewer had was from the 66 NW car?

Makiki, I remember Rusty doing some sort of golf game during the Superbowl for charity and playing for the Rusty Wallace Foundation.

As far as Rusty and charity work goes, he does have the NASCAR Angels tv show. Guess you missed that!

Sally said...

The camera shot selections tonight are really bad. Do they really think the in cars are supposed to give you a sense of the speed?

Daly Planet Editor said...

This you?

"Is anyone having trouble getting audio to play on Nascar.com? Both the online site and my Sprint App are having audio problems."

Martin Vincent said...

Bliss, Nemechek and Conway off the track, McDowell coming back out of the garages again.

red said...

what's so disappointing about all this tight coverage tonight is that this race could be anywhere, on any track. when we only get to see in-car or bumper cams, two car shots or single car focus, it just doesn't matter where they're racing. the personality of the track itself becomes irrelevant.

so far, i'm not seeing any changes in the poor production value of this espn broadcast. the issue isn't the pit reporters or even the booth: it's in the truck. if the truck had it together, all the rest would fade to silly chatter that could be ignored.

Jonathan said...

I have to say that was a good strech of racing without a commercial very nice

TexasRaceLady said...

I'm confused ---- Is NASCAR just permitting 2 cars at a time on the track???? From the TV, it sure looks like it.

David said...

I'm using firefox, but I always make sure to allow everything from their site to pass through. What really got me was that even the official Nascar App on my new Sprint Evo was having the same problem. I guess my money is no good to them, heh

oldnewenglander said...

Could someone explain what the issue with the #00 was, I don't think I understood Marty correctly.

David said...

Leave it to ESPN to crap on what MIGHT good race. Of course, we wouldn't know if it's good or not, because we can't even see much of it. At least you're not a Notre Dame fan too, then you'd get doubly screwed by ESPN's awful broadcasting and agenda.

David #2

Anonymous said...

Man - ESPN just flat out rocks. Great coverage of a fantastic race. Thank you, ESPN!!!!!

red said...

oldnewenglander: the 00 had a radio problem: driver couldn't hear the spotter. they replaced the steering wheel in the assumption that there was bad wiring on the steering wheel.

AND never mind: here's the explanation from dr jerry.

Vicky D said...

Still so much dedicated boring info on the Chase. I wonder if MR likes talking a lot about it??

LVI56 said...

No real complaints about the broadcast so far. It could always be better but it is better than Bristol at this point.

oldnewenglander said...

Thanks Red (and Dr. Punch)

Bobby said...

Just back . . .

The IRL race last night reminded me that many of those drivers have raced in "sprint" races (nothing more than two hours). Also there is a strict blocking rule that has prevented the bad crashes we've seen in the past.

Back from church . . . and this time missed another good national anthem this week, from what I heard (my dear friend at the football game was the other). EHSSQ is a distinguished second-generation quartet (wife Lisa's late father was George Younce, legendary bass of The Cathedrals). I saw Ernie in concert at least twice (both with the Cathedrals) with that old-school Southern-style 4-part harmonies.

Interesting race. No discussion of the pavement?

Jonathan said...

there we go back from the pit stop is the goodyear blimp :)

Marty Reid thinks Kurt Busch is in the 18 car

Tracy D said...

What happened to Conway in the 7 car? Anyone know? And Robbie isn't in the 07?

Vicky D said...

Kenny Schrader must be grinding his teeth right now with all the updates on the Chase and points as of now. The race isn't over yet!

Martin Vincent said...

McDowell and Conway off the track, Nemechek back out on track. We may not have any S&P after all at the end of the race, they'll all just be a lot of laps down.

red said...

man, i am a fan of the 88 but i certainly want to see that debris in a BIG way!

longtimeracefan said...

Where's the debris?

Please show it.

Jonathan said...

oh well no debri to show I guess

Martin Vincent said...

@Tracy - Conway is supposed to be in the 7 the rest of the year, and Gordon is off running an off-road race, so he didn't enter the 07 in this week's race. If Conway falls out of the top-35, I wonder if Robby will get back into the 7 and put Conway in the 07.

Anonymous said...

What a farce--why should anyone take Nascar seriously?

glenc1 said...

Tracy, no, Robby did not bring the 07 this week.

Anonymous said...

this should point out how bad Nascar has gotten. I know that it wasnt because Dale Jr got lapped that they threw a caution...but did it look ridiculous throwing a caution when NOTHING happened. Has ESPN shown it? Nope.

And what is with calling people by last names like professionals but then calling kyle busch as KYLE the whole time? Glad I didnt care about this race to make it a major part of the weekend. Off.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Another twist-tie in turn 3 I guess.

red said...

well, just keep the anger where it belongs: on nascar for throwing a bogus caution, not on the team that benefitted from it.

(wonder if i'll get fined for that?)

oldnewenglander said...

@Tracy D

Regarding attendance, Bruton's a good businessman and this track has no spring race in 2011.

Should be enough said about that.

LVI56 said...

There was a truck out there, I saw no debris, just the 88 in lucky dog position...

Crowd is very good tonight, little sparse along the front stretch, likely that fans went for the cheaper tix in the turns, the turn 3 stands are packed and I think the track had a special on tickets there.

Tracy D said...

Martin, Glen, thanks for the info on Robby. Guess his sponsorship woes are pretty bad.

Jonathan said...

I have a question now DW and Larry Mac have said that the debri caution w no debri has always been an issue that its nothing new, now was it like this in the 80's or 90's did they ever say caution for debri and never show it? I've been a fan since 04 and its always been a part of are sport. I have no problem with it heck every other pro sports has a timeout sometime during the game so whatever that was one long a strech of green flag racing so whatever it is what it is

Anonymous said...

well, just keep the anger where it belongs: on nascar for throwing a bogus caution, not on the team that benefitted from it.

i agree. but it's a joke that changes the race. there was no debris and no reason to have a caution.

and wow...can they root for kyle busch more. i understand how he moved up 2 spots after pitting as a lap down car. but he is a LAP DOWN car. ESPN lacks the wherewithal to even cover a race.

Joke.

Tracy D said...

This is good camera work right now.

Anonymous said...

Jonathan: Unless Dale Earnhardt (senior) threw some padding out of the window there was never a debris caution back in the real racing days.

Vicky D said...

Anon at 9:10 - yes, these guys in the booth are giddy talking about KyBusch tonight and him moving up!

Daly Planet Editor said...

Denny not going to be a happy boy.

Bobby said...

Two engine failures for the JGR Toyota factory. This is troubling for Kyle Busch.

red said...

so, before the 11 even stops spinning, the booth jumps in with "remember when i said kyle busch had to pass 3 guys to get the lucky dog? well, he has."

could we at least FOCUS on what's happening, not what we WANT to have happen?

and now, the endless replays.

(and i'm not an 11 fan but that was a sweet piece of car control w/a blown engine.)

@Jonathan - I had a friend who was a course worker at Watkins Glen, among other tracks, and in the late '90s he said the phantom debris cautions were happening and they had to keep their mouth shut about it.

@Tracy - Robby Gordon had an alliance with BAM Racing to run their Warner Nashville sponsorship, but that went away a few months ago. Looks like Robby only had Monster Energy for a few races and whatever Menards and their product sponsors are contributing.

wtf is with them covering KYLE? He's just inside the Top 20 and he has been covered 4x more than half of the drivers in the Top 10. It's just weird. Is it a product of them being used to him in Nationwide races or what?

I just dont want to hear about a guy who has struggled to stay in the Top 20 covered more than a McMurray in 10th, a Truex in 3rd and so on.

I mean, they were excited when Truex went to the inside on the restart more because he is near the front and they dont pay attention than anything else.

Sad Espn and sad marty reid.

Martin, I read that Robby has sued BAM over the sponsorship deal - not sure of the details. But I thought he had some other sponsors. Doesn't he have Red Bull on his off-road stuff?

Marty Reed just doesn't cut it. DJ corrects his obvious mistake and he makes a lame excuse. Pitiful.

thanks Martin than why is everyone so mad about it. Just like a timeout... see we dont have that option with 43 teams out there not 2 so once in a while I dont mind it only when it happens every race and Nascar has been good about it latley so whatever im ok with it. those who complain just want something to complain about! I just wish they would call it a compition caution instead of a debri thats my only beef

They have decided to make KyBu the story of this one just like they made JJ the story last year.

Weird they went back to scripts after having some good NNS races this summer.

Must be the big brass in the truck making them do it the ESPN way.

I'd like to call in Bestwick as relief announcer for Reid! That poor boy seems lost.

@Tracy - The only times Red Bull ever sponsored Robby in NASCAR were 2 road course Nationwide races in 2005. Losing Jim Beam was the final nail in the coffin for Robby, he doesn't have anything else than Menards at this point in time, I think.

Jonathan...may come as a shock to you, but some of us actually prefer an honest race, instead of people lying to us. If they want to put a competition caution in the rulebook, fine.

What a wacky race.

Jonathan,

That's your viewpoint. Others respect this as a sport and are not happy that in the middle of a live event the outcome is altered for more excitement for fans like you.

In pushing obvious fake caution flags, NASCAR has done nothing except move away from the NFL and MLB and go back to being regarded as a non-sport.

It's not a timeout. It's the sanctioning body manipulating what is actually going on to satisfy their own made for TV agenda.

Just understand there are two viewpoints on this subject.

Anyone see that coming?

Robby does have Monster for a race or two a year but yes Jim Beam was a huge loss.

Kyle being a story makes sense but doesn't at the same time.

They seem confused to say the least.

Debris cautions. HATE them, lets run caution free for once!!!! its been 10 years already!

I can't believe Elliott's luck this year.
At least he has his darling baby to make up for some of it.

JD my Point is if its happened since the start of my sport why is everyone making it out like its something new thats all it is what it is yeah didnt like to see it but i can take it im not going to stop watching whatever like I said as long as they dont over do it than fine. Thats all

Does Reid fantasize about KYLE? WTF does he focus everything on him for? It's weird.

David #1, Running Java 6 Update 20 but when I invoke PitCommand Java gives me a message about wanting to block the Nascar application because of security concerns but I click "no" to run the application. I've had to do that for the last several months and am wondering if it was because of a Java update.

So I just started watching the race when I came home from work. Why is the booth on kyle busch watch? They made sure we knew kyle busch made it through the wreck

Well, at least everyone can't complain that they are paying too much attention to junior for a change, can they?
