Breakfast With Milka In Talladega

Things got wild and wacky at Talladega on Friday. Although the Nationwide and Cup Series got some track time, it was the ARCA race scheduled for 5PM that never took the green flag.

Instead, Saturday morning at 9AM ET SPEED will be live from Talladega for all the ARCA action. Rick Allen is calling the race with Phil Parsons and Kenny Schrader in the TV booth. Bob Dillner and Ray Dunlap are handling pit road.

The driver with the most curious past is Milka Duno. The 38 year-old Venezuelan is driving for Sheltra Motorsports, a Florida-based team. She will start from the eighth spot. Duno has tried her well-funded hand at IndyCar and sports car racing with little luck. It may well be that ARCA might be her best chance to actually bring the Citgo brand to Victory Lane.

A couple of well-funded familiar last names are also in the race. Ty Dillon and Brandon McReynolds will have some nervous dads on the pit box. The reality of ARCA these days is represented by the fact that the pole sitter is more than ten miles an hour faster than the tail of the field.

The boys in the back include Darrell Basham, who is said to be sponsored by the F&W Bar and Grill of Lincoln, AL. Apparently, Darrell and the boys were inspired enough by eating F&W's BBQ that they decided to bring the establishment along for the ride.

We will use this post for TV-related comments on SPEED's ARCA coverage Saturday morning. To post your comment, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thanks for taking the time to stop by The Daly Planet.

Big thanks to SPEED for bringing this race to us live instead of doing a tape delay or even bailing out all together. It's one of the must-see races of the year, regardless of the series.

Hope Milka has better luck than in the past.

Nice wide shots.

Have they said why the lap count is not on the screen?

The lap count is up and working and now I see since that is fixed they are now showing car cams.

Was nice to see the first 20 laps without Any car cams. I did not miss these shots.

ARCA is either a crashfest or single file parade at restrictor plate tracks. We've got another single file parade.

Nice shots, nice job.

I thought Scharder was supposed to be in the booth. Pretty good race so far.

I'm sure Dillon and probably Larry Macs kid have the equipment and technology in their cars to win on Sunday, never mind against these low funded ARCA teams. Good luck ARCA series regulars, you'll need it.

I guess the new network philosophy is showing drivers inside the car before the window net is down.

I just saw the last 30 laps or so. It was hard to hear who was talking at times in the booth, but some of the comments showed little understanding of what those race cars were doing. Exciting finish though. Dillon made a good move. I felt sorry for Kimmel.

Rick Allen and Phil Parsons doing a great job in the booth. Exciting race, glad there weren't any big wrecks. Congrats to Dillon & team!

Very nice job.

Congratulations to Ty on his win. Awesome move there!

Hate that they never caught up to the action, usually they start on a delay but catch up. Reporters, Gluck especially, getting heat for "spoiling". Evil mean people out there, glad the folks I know are nice & understand that the reporters at the track aren't always aware of where TV is. :(

Well, well, well. The "moving chicane" got herself a top 20 finish. Congrats to Milka. And I noticed they didn't show Larry Mac after Brandon's car ran out of gas while leading ;-)

The ghost of Dale Earnhardt was riding on Dillon's shoulder in that draft. THAT was AWESOME, kid!

From what I remember there were No car cams used in the last 10 laps in the ARCA race.
Speed just showed the race as a fan would see if from the stands.
