Friday Action From Talladega Will Be On SPEED

They have been doing it for years and know how to get it right. No Digger, no Tim Brewer and respect for all the teams and competitors. It's Friday on SPEED from Talladega.

Noon is Nationwide Series qualifying with Rick Allen, Kyle Petty and Jeff Hammond. Since Allen is on-site for the ARCA race, this is a good opportunity for him to get some more TV face-time working on the Nationwide Series. Hermie Sadler and Wendy Venturini are the reporters. Hammond and Petty have been fun to listen to when working with Steve Byrnes, Allen better hold on tight.

The Sprint Cup Series cars take to the track at 2PM. That session will be Mike Joy with Darrell Waltrip and Larry McReynolds. Krista Voda and Matt Yocum will be the reporters. Waltrip is very different on SPEED. His FOX personality is gone and we get observations from a veteran driver. If only he could transfer that to Sundays.

John Roberts and Kyle Petty will be up next with NASCAR Live from the SPEED Stage. This little show is a great tool for highlights, to follow-up on stories in-progress and do live interviews. Randy Pemberton and Wendy Venturini will be the reporters.

The final Sprint Cup Series practice is next at 3:30PM with Joy, Waltrip and McReynolds. This time, Steve Byrnes and Dick Berggren will be reporting. By this time, we should have a very clear picture of whether the "lovebug" style of two car drafting will be the order of the day in the actual race.

Roberts returns with Pemberton, Sadler and Venturini for the final edition of NASCAR Live. This show will bridge the time to the 5PM ARCA race.

Rick Allen, Phil Parsons and Kenny Schrader call the live ARCA race, which has proven to be both exciting and rather dangerous over the past several years. For you IndyCar fans, the one and only Milka Duno is racing again so that alone should add some spice. Bob Dillner and Ray Dunlap will be covering pit road.

The night ends with Trackside at 7PM and then SPEED Center at 8PM. Adam Alexander has been given the task of trying to get a general interest live motorsports studio show up and running and slowly but surely SPEED Center is getting better.

Trackside has an identity crisis and I am not sure how it will be solved. Byrnes leaves the show as host once the FOX portion of the Sprint Cup Series season is over and that time is rapidly approaching. The new set is disjointed and while the conversation is still interesting, Darrell Waltrip often appears to be out of the loop of current events.

This weekend Brad Keselowski, Slugger Labbe and Paul Menard are the guests. It should be interesting to see how the production team integrates three guests into this one hour show. Trackside has tons of potential, it just has to find it's way since leaving Larry McReynolds behind.

Happy Race Weekend Y'all! <3

Sounds like some scary weather may be near 'Dega again. I remember last year & being worried about the folks camping in the area. PTL all was OK in the end!

oooh noooo, the rolling chicane is here??????

I remembered that yesterday, Gymmie, when I was watching the Weather Channel. Let's hope for no repeat of that.

I have enjoyed other Will Ferrell movies, but I thought Talledega nights was 2 hours of my life that I'll never get back. But I am looking forward to Cars 2.

Looking forward to this weekend, let's hope Rick Allen gives the NW regulars some love. PS I never cared for Will Ferrell and that movie.

I find it funny how much of a difference there is with SPEED's coverage of the Cup series versus their coverage on Fox. I really enjoy the SPEED coverage even if it's just qualifying or practice.

Hope they get the ARCA race in,since having Schrader in the booth makes it so much fun for me. I heard there was rain forecast for Friday.

Glad that the action will be on Speed, they do it best.

NASCAR is now having a Dega meeting about how to coordinate weather info at the track. Tornado watch already out. Bad weather on the way.

i think they should make a nascar movie like they did with Le Mans with

Glad to know that I am not alone in not liking that movie. I'm not a big Will Ferrell fan and considering how protective NASCAR is of it's image, I was surprised that they were "all for it". Ugh

I'll keep my fingers crossed for anyone in the area where the weather is bad!

Yes not a Will fan but there were a few funny moments & I did *giggle* (after everyone was OK) when Carl did his "Ricky Bobby" at Hotlanta I believe it was.

I have a feeling we are going to get more bumper cams then ever before.

Rather then zooming out and watching the two cars go around the track, we will see the front nose of the car pushing, over and over again.

GinaV24 said...

oh geez, Charlie, that's a terrible thought. And you'll probably be right.

And what about Milk and Donuts starting near the front in the ARCA race this afternoon. I can't wait to see that! If weather will be a problem today, I'm not happy waiting for rain showers to clear away. Hope they miss the track!

I agree. I think we'll all be sick of "bumper cams" by the end of the weekend. The Booth is already beating to death the words "pusher" and the fact that Bear Bond doesn't lend itself to the other car's bumper sliding across it. Let's hope the storms don't injure anyone. Supposedly, the weekend looks good. Here's hoping....

Speaking of Will Ferrell, how bad was last night's episode of The Office? I don't like Steve Carrell's character but WF's wasn't funny either.

Glad they've gone retro during rain delay. Two hours more of DW would make me ill.

More drafting "doggie" style coming this weekend. Hope it makes for a better race than Daytona which was ho-hum until the end.

Just read on Twitter ARCA race will be 8 AM Sat MORNING. Zowee, that's early for the brain/reflexes.

Any idea when SPEED will broadcast so I can set DVR? Hope they still carry it. tx

P.S. re AA on SPEED CENTER. he needs another host. AA YELLS ALL THE TIME..does anybody notice this? I can't watch. :-( Needs to lower the voice 1/2 an octave and talk in 'conversational tones' ala Steve Byrnes.

Sheesh. Speed should know better by now how to make folks work in the best dept.

I miss the rotating hosts & often skip SCenter. The first show wasn't broke but of course Hill had to fix it. Sigh

couple of observations:

Speed took like 15 commercial breaks in the first hour of nationwide quals. Other than that it was great hearing Rick, Jeff, and Kyle. Those guys are a good combo.

They were discussing the Richmond nationwide race on Speed in 2 weeks and Rick said "Ill be there, along with Mikey and DW". I hope he was just joking. Speed has this 1 chance to upstage ESPN and they don't need to screw it up by having 2 clowns in the booth.

One more thing, and its been bugging me for weeks, why cant Larry Mac say Nationwide series. He now refers to Nationwide as "the NNS series" which is weird because he is basically saying Nascar Nationwide Series Series.

Tracy D said...

I caught the NW qualifying, and I have to say I was annoyed at Kyle et al making fun of Michael Waltrip, saying he had the mentality of less than a 10 year old. I don't care what you think of the man, that joke was embarrassing to hear for me as a viewer. So much for professionalism.

JA said...

Roland,

I feel like there is some underlying reason why Larry Mac refers to the Nationwide as NNS ... all the FOX guys have started calling it "the Saturday race" or "NNS" or something like that. Perhaps it's all just a coincidence, but as often as it's been happening, I feel like there is a reason behind it.

How Ironic it was. During the Arca race phil parsons said .".Listen to those engines "

I have checked with the folks

They understand how horrid it is

Do you have no shame at all ?????
Showing the highlights of past

I always like it ..when they ask
different drivers...

""" what happened ? """ oh wait
Marty reed telling us again ..just

Sure hope Rick Allen was just kidding when he said that Mikey and DW would be in the booth with him for the Richmond NNS race.I think we all remember the disasterous truck race where he had DW in the booth and Mikey was driving. Surely Speed learned something from that fiasco and will not spoil another race on us.
