Live Blogging Camping World Trucks From Kentucky (SPEED - 7:30PM)

The truckers are sharing the bill with the IndyCar set and word this afternoon is that traffic at the track was light. We will see how many folks show up for this night race.

Krista Voda kicks things off with the pre-race show at 7:30PM. Rick Allen, Michael Waltrip and Phil Parsons follow with the race call at 8PM. Ray Dunlap and Hermie Sadler are on pit road.

The trucks are a comfortable TV package. Keep your eyes peeled today for some new names and faces as this stand-alone race has given some new teams an opportunity to give it a go on the big track.

There is not much to say about this one except that sometimes a field like this leads to good racing. This track might be a bit too big for that, but we will all find out together.

This post will serve to host your comments on the Camping World Truck Series telecast on SPEED from Kentucky Speedway. To add your TV-related comments, just click on the comments button below. Thanks for stopping by!

Wow...qualifing looked like a Wednesday of a typical raceweek..nobody in stands and infield empty..only a few RVs in all those trackside spots...

Daly Planet Editor said...

Thank you for the update Joe!

The S&P situation looks much better than the Nationwide race:

#27 Raymer
#38 Garvey
#74 Harmon
#87 Jones
#93 McLeod

31 trucks racing tonight.

Daly Planet Editor said...

I like this field.

Buschseries61 said...

Me too JD, 0 cuppers makes a big difference!

Jonathan said...

going to be so fun with this weather :) I think this is going to be the race of the weekend

RWar24 said...

Alabama/Florida, Nebraska/Wisconsin, Notre Dame/Purdue and MLB playoffs. Trucks are going to get crushed in the ratings. Still hoping for a good race.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Time to watch a race the way I want, cheering for actual contenders :)- I get to be an actual fan for once!

Sally said...

Couldn't agree more! Much more fun to watch a race with just REAL truck races, not full of Cup interlopers!

Roadgeek Adam said...

Still hoping to see some first time winners. Got a whole boatload of them, Piquet, Paludo, Carmichael, Ty Dillon, Kligerman, Ickler, Buescher, etc.

Daly Planet Editor said...

ESPN3.com showing the ALMS sports cars running 10 hours at Road Atlanta in the Petit Le Mans race.

Two leaders got into it and one guy put the other into a concrete barrier on a straight.

Next driver change he got punched by the guy he hit! Fist fight at an endurance race. That was new.

RWar24 said...

Oh no, This anthem isn't going to be good.. UGH!

ChrisK said...

It always irritates me when a commentator says something like "Only once has this race been won from the pole." It's such a silly stat. Are they implying that the chance of the pole sitter winning are somehow diminished by that fact? Of course, they are stat-happy anyway.

jimm57 said...

This anthem is painful!

Anthem - No!

PammH said...

Are you kidding me??? Another bunch wanting to make the anthem their own??? gag...

jimm57 said...

Ruben and the Jets?

ChrisK said...

Ouch! Terrible!

Labbie said...

Horrible anthem!!!!

My ears are bleeding!

Sally said...

The one on the left looks like Moms Mabley.

Roland said...

I never complain about anthems, but that was God awful. All 5 minutes of it

Gary said...

bad anthem....shame on the promoter

Anonymous said...

Oh my! Pulling a splinter out of your foot isn't near as painful as this anthem was.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Am I the only one that enjoy that? (Pardoning it was way too long.)

Yes I look like a hypocrite for saying the 10 year old sucked, but just personally its me.

NorCalFan said...

That anthem was nearly unrecognizable. Why must people make it their "own"?

RWar24 said...

Who knew singing the National Anthem could be so disrespectful. You can't even begin to describe how bad that was.

Zetona said...

Saw the wreck at Petit Le Mans, didn't see the fistfight. American sports car racing is generally of very high quality. Shame it doesn't get more attention.

ChrisK said...

That was funny when everybody applauded and they just kept going.

Jonathan said...

wow....wow wtf was that????

Anonymous said...

I think they were clapping thankful it was over.

ChrisK said...

American sports car racing would be more popular if there weren't two competing organizations running separate race series, one of them NASCAR.

ChrisK said...

Hey, we got a Start Your Engines without a commercial. Way to go!

Sally said...

...immediately followed by several commercials!

Daly Planet Editor said...

Seriously, not even words for that anthem. Did they do it that way in rehearsal?

Gary said...

How soon will MW say NAPA...which lap?

Anonymous said...

Anthem was awful. Shame on NASCAR for letting that happen. Someone knew exactly how bad they were going to be. Americas' ears bled and her heart hurt over that mess.

jimm57 said...

I vote the first lap!

Sally said...

Great to see Timothy Peters truck with a sponsor! No plain white truck.

Buschseries61 said...

Ray makes a good point about the Truck series looking a little bit like Sprint Cup.

jimm57 said...

For the Cup race tomorrow Actress, singer Melora Hardin of 'The Office' to belt national anthem at Monster Mile

PammH said...

damn, I was goona tape this to watch in the morn since there are no Cup drivers, but w/MW being in the booth, that won't fly in this house...:( crap.

Jonathan said...

Lets go TRUCK RACING WOOOOOOOOO

Jonathan said...

damn that was some intense racing the first 4 laps love it

Roadgeek Adam said...

Painful wreck for Josh Richards. eek

Daly Planet Editor said...

Man, hate to see guys go out like that.

Zetona said...

No Cup guys? Three-wide pass for the lead after one lap? Hard racing that suggests we'll actually have cautions? This is gonna be a great race.

Roadgeek Adam said...

This is the first wreck all weekend, doesn't normally Dover have wrecks? :P

Buschseries61 said...

Adam - Brian Scott crashed into the sandbarrels earlier, that kinda counts...lol

Roadgeek Adam said...

The caution wasn't for him hitting it, probably was to clean it up :P

ChrisK said...

Too bad Richards felt he had to drive all the way around the track dumping fluid.

jimm57 said...

You're right Adam, but I held back from asking that for todays NNS race today. But yeah, theres usually a few messy wrecks at Dover, and todays was all debris cautions. Wha happen?

Zetona said...

Adam, it's a track known for wrecks against a car that discourages close racing and is relatively easy to save. Hopefully tomorrow will be better...otherwise, the 24 will be lapped pretty quickly...

Buschseries61 said...

Michael already promoted the Cup race, SPEED channel, Victory Lane, and Aarons. We have a loooong way until the finish.

Daly Planet Editor said...

What a difference from ESPN earlier in the day with single and two-car shots and in-cars.

Love seeing the racing.

Buschseries61 said...

Love TruckBuddy, I've seen both cautions as they happened live.

jimm57 said...

I think truck buddy is broke! Theres no 30 second Sprint commercials when I switch cameras!!!!!
(sarcasm)

Roadgeek Adam said...

If memory serves me, Dover in the spring was a wreckfest (the Swindell wreck, the big one at the end, plus several I can't remember.) Today's was follow the leader. This evening is Who's Going to Be The Leader Next?

I feel so sorry for Ryan Sieg. Good driver, bad equipment. Right before hitting the wall for the first time, he had gotten to 17th.

Buschseries61 said...

Looks like the #93 will go the distance since the #39 wrecked. Means only 4 parks tonight instead of 5.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Nelson Piquet giving this a run for his money. If Austin Dillon doesn't get by him, first time winner is possible (still a while to go though). Ultimately if we want a first time winner, you need to hold off Dillon and Hornaday

Buschseries61 said...

PROBLEMS! #68

Buschseries61 said...

Wow, this is fun to watch!

Roadgeek Adam said...

O _ O Wild wreck.

Sally said...

This is what I expect to see when I watch a race! Side by side, running hard.

RWar24 said...

Nice response by the safety crew there. Very quick.

Charlie said...

Just got back from a wedding reception. What a difference in camera work. This is fun to watch.
And they even show you a wreck in real time.

Sally said...

See? Even Mikey knows the racing is better without the Cup drivers here!

w17scott said...

an actual race that we get to see

Buschseries61 said...

He will flip flop his viewpoint on Cuppers once they return. Just like his brother.

Sally said...

Of course he will! He'll tell us that the Cuppers add SO MUCH to the truck races.

Roadgeek Adam said...

I'm enjoying this race. Hornaday, Whitt, Piquet and Dillon are clearly the class of the field. Two of the four have yet to win a race. One has 4 wins, one has 49 wins. Amazing this series ain't it?

Daly Planet Editor said...

Man, this is pretty good TV!

ChrisK said...

It's refreshing not to have a pit studio. Is anybody from ESPN watching?

Sally said...

Im agine using your [it reporters to update the field after a round of pit stops! How creative.

Buschseries61 said...

Sally- Then he'll start humming NAPA Knowhow for the Aaron's Lucky Dog. :)

Adam - It would be awesome if Nationwide and Trucks could be like this race everyweek. Both series would be restored to normalcy.

Charlie said...

I know this is not possible but it would be interesting to have Speed and Espn both do the same NNS race at the same time and on their own channels and just see who gets the most viewers.
I bet advertisers would be surprised.

Sally said...

Now THIS is how I rremember he ruck series races being! Good, hard racing all through the field.

jimm57 said...

What Im enjoying with the coverage is that when a driver in mid pack who I know nothing about comes in they follow him, give him a little airtime, and say what problem he has. Its not just the top 3 or 5 or big names. That keeps me interested in all the drivers and introduces me to new drivers. Kinda like I was new to the sport.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Yeah, where is this racing every week?

ChrisK said...

It would have been interesting to hear Chastain's radio traffic just now. I think he stopped on the track to draw a caution.

Dennis said...

Speed really knows how to broadcast a race and the trucks can really put on a good show if they are at the right track.... unlike last week's snoozer.

The 3 is really upset with the 6. I thought Lofton seemed to be sticking his truck where he shouldn't. Says he'll take him out if he tries any more nonsense. LOL

Sally said...

Amazing how much more engaged I am in this race when I can watch most of the field during the entire race. Hope Fox and ESPN are taking notes.

ChrisK said...

Somebody mentioned Mikey plugging sponsors. I've heard "Fuel Doctor" mentioned five times now from other guys. None of the other truck sponsors have been mentioned that often.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Caution #7, doing well racking them up here. Great racing among many people, Dakoda Armstrong, etc.

jimm57 said...

and to think I wasn't gunna watch tonight after the NNS race today. Thought I'd be raced out, but this is pretty good stuff! I like Ray, I like Hermie, I like the camera shots, the good racing and Truck Buddy. Who'da thunk it?

Buschseries61 said...

Watching the #9 wiggle around the track is hilarious.

ChrisK said...

Piquet is getting killed in the pits. He goes in in front or near there and comes out way back.

Charlie said...

Beautiful camera work. Nice wide shots.
What more can I say.

Wisconsin Steve said...

This is the first Truck race I've actually enjoyed in months - how awesome would it be if it were like this (w/o Cup drivers) every week - only on short tracks?

Roadgeek Adam said...

How many drivers have led tonight? This is just one amazing race.

Sally said...

Areal race with TV coverage that doesn't require 7 pieces of electronics and radio just to keep track of the race. Just watch the pictures and listen to the TV. Wow. What a comcept!

Daly Planet Editor said...

This from IndyCar driver Graham Rahal watching from the infield:

"This trucks race is a joke. These guys are crashing every 5 laps!"

Buschseries61 said...

LOL JD. Indy Car has been a joke for years.

Sally said...

Interesteing comment from someone who races in a series that has 2/3 the number of competitors, and usually loses almost half the field before the checkered flag. He should ask Dario how easy it is to drive the tintops.

Roland said...

I would hate for Hornaday to win this. Or Austin Dillon for that matter. You only get a few races each year that have no Cup drivers. Give me a surprise. Piquet, Ty Dillon, guys like that. Even Justin Loftin has run good tonight. This series needs a new face in victory lane.

Buschseries61 said...

I have no idea who will win this.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Same Roland, we need new names when the Cup drivers aren't here.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Awesome night and then the worst timed commercial break in the history of mankind.

Sally said...

But it would be kinda cool f or Hornaday to get win #50. Especially since he may not have a ride for next year.

Charlie said...

I like it. They keep with the stories on the track as you come back from commercial. They first show you the 8 coming out of the pits, now you know he isn't going to try to make it.

Charlie said...

8 laps to go.

Buschseries61 said...

This is intense!

Buschseries61 said...

With Ron's future in question, I'm happy to see him win.

ChrisK said...

Isn't this the second truck race in a row where they've had a commercial in the last 15 minutes? Idiots!

Charlie said...

Listening to the Austin scanner, watching and listening to the Tv. What a race. I was so into it I forgot to say lap 15, remembered at lap 8.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Clearly this point championship is going to come down to Homestead.

Sally said...

That was not a nap inducing race!

jimm57 said...

Good race, good coverage. A pleasure to watch. No complaints.

Buschseries61 said...

Great job SPEED Channel! Big improvement from New Hampshire.

Great racing by the Truck drivers! They proved that they can put on a great show without a single Cup driver.

Good night everyone!

w17scott said...

Thanks, SPEED ...good show ...professional, quality effort

Sophia said...

multi tasking but from what I saw GREAT camera work!! It's very cold here...45 here but windy all day made it feel much colder. Track is s45 minutes away, could be colder there.

Great to see Hornaday win his 50th! :)

Daly Planet Editor said...

Well, that saved the day! Thanks everyone for the great comments.

See you all tomorrow for the big show!!

JD

Charlie said...

Excellent Truck race. Thanks to the Truck teams and the Speed team. You did Great!!

Bill said...

Blocking people when they criticize you is censorship :) What a pathetic life!!!

Enjoy sitting in the house all day in North Cuba. Steroids allow some of us to get out and enjoy life!!!

I'd still play you a $ 100,000.00/hole hurt at the course of your choice.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Bill,

My comment had nothing to do with steriods. It was in reference to ESPN trying to pull a "playmaker" of the day only from stick and ball sports on Saturday.

I reminded them of just how they know Mr. Hornaday, from a smear job several years ago.

Thank you.
