Live Blogging Nationwide Series From Homestead (ESPN2 - 4PM ET)

The weather is holding up and the track is fast. Early camera views show the track is amazingly empty of fans. Hopefully, they are out enjoying some food and the scenery around the track and will head for the grandstands shortly.

Nicole Briscoe has been wrestling with Rusty Wallace and Brad Daugherty all season long. Wallace is sometimes brilliant and sometimes embarrassingly off the mark. Daugherty is a NASCAR cheerleader who stays on message and adds very little in terms of opinions about the week to week happenings in the sport. Briscoe has done a very good job keeping both of them in check and focused.

The Nationwide Series race has a diverse group of teams and drivers. There is also a diverse group of goals. Some are simply in for the win, others for the season points and still others for the experience and exposure. It's going to be interesting.

Danica Patrick has faded from view, but she has lots of open wheel experience on this track. It should be interesting to follow just how much TV time ESPN gives her in the pre-race show. The network is banking on Patrick to save the series in 2012 when she runs full time.

Marty Reid is finishing out a bittersweet season for him. Removed from the Sprint Cup Series coverage on ESPN only days before it started, Reid is doing his final NASCAR telecast for the year and perhaps for a lot longer than that. Bestwick has been solid in his role and since ESPN only does Nationwide series telecasts up to July, Reid's future plans may be changing shortly.

Reid will call the race with Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree. ESPN once again this season did not bring in two other analysts for the Nationwide Series races once the Cup coverage began. This leaves Jarrett and Petree to do the vast majority of the prep work for the Cup events, but then still have to handle the live Nationwide Series telecasts.

Imagine if ESPN has brought in Ricky Craven and Randy LaJoie for these races. Something to make the series different from just being a AAA Baseball version of the Cup telecasts. With only three seasons remaining for ESPN, it's doubtful things will change.

Jamie Little had some interesting moments last race with driver interviews. She is back on pit road today along with Dr. Jerry Punch, Vince Welch and Dave Burns. There are sometimes hot tempers in the final race, especially after incidents on the track. Keep an eye on how ESPN uses the pit reporters today.

Homestead was wonderful on TV Friday night as SPEED produced the Camping World Truck Series race. TV viewers saw clumps of trucks, wideshots of the track and kept a perspective of just who was where. That is the challenge today for the ESPN team.

This post will serve to host your comments on the TV coverage of the Nationwide Series race from Homestead-Miami Speedway. To add your opinion, just click the comments button below. Thanks as always for adding your voices to our conversation this season about the NASCAR TV partners.

Stay away rain! Let's get this done!

Zetona said...

Er, when is Rusty ever "brilliant"?

Daly Planet Editor said...

LOL! Well, when he is outside of his personal issues with others and gets wound-up about something it's right on target.

Then, he strays and it all goes to heck.

Hello all, following Vince Welsh on twitter I came across a woman named Natalie Jo Nauman
twitter: (@njnauman). In her tweets if u scroll down it mentiones she will be joining ESPN motorsports in March as her next assignment. Does anyone know anything about her?

Daly Planet Editor said...

ESPN2 and SPEED both on the air.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Nope, but thanks for the tip!

Daly Planet Editor said...

No one in the stands. Holy cow.

OSBORNK said...

Maybe the number of people in the stands reflects what the fans think of the new points system. When the champion is announced, the casual fan will say "WHO is that?"

Sally said...

Are there stil 'good seats available' for the race tomorrow?

Daly Planet Editor said...

Sally....that would be yes.

Sally said...

So, in spite of BZF's glee at the tight oints race, his 'game 7 moment', the fans don't seem to be quite as excited as he might have hoped? That sum it up?

Roadgeek Adam said...

Hey all. Today is going to be an important race, because at the end of the day, a champion who isn't slumming it will be getting the earned championship. :D

Daly Planet Editor said...

Brewer: Move around the race track is you want to go faster.

Sally said...

You mean the title 'earned' in the final 10 races after the arbitrary point adjustment, right?

Daly Planet Editor said...

oops if....

OSBORNK said...

I think other people are like me. I don't care whether Carl or Tony wins but we know that everything that happens will be concentrated on them. I want a good race but the drivers won't be able to give it their all for fear of impacting the championship race. If NASCAR can fine a driver $25,000 for simply telling the truth out loud, imagine what they would do if a driver knocked one of the championship contenders out of the race and making the rest of the race meaningless in the eyes of King Brian.

I believe the moments happen during commercial breaks.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Well well, look who is back.

ChrisKRacing said...

Amazing anthem!

Sally said...

This is his last weekend to try out his creative spelling. Poor boy.

Roadgeek Adam said...

That anthem went from great and nearly tanked on the third to last verse.

Palmetto said...

Worst. Anthem. EVER.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Well, this is going to be interesting!

OSBORNK said...

If a 10 year old can do this well now, wait til she grows up.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Where is The Hoff when you need him?

PammH said...

that was an interesting anthem..

Vicky D said...

Anon at 4 PM. Thanks for the warning!!!!

Sally said...

Or Trace Adkins?

Palmetto said...

Or the law enforcement officer from the Truck race?

Daly Planet Editor said...

Paybacks today under green?

Roland said...

Stenhouse should have the title by lap 20 with all the start and parks.

John in Chico said...

Here's to Hyper-tight coverage....

OSBORNK said...

You folks just don't understand what guts it takes for a 10 year old to do this. Think of a typical 10 year old or even a 20 year old.

Vicky D said...

Sally, I believe there are ads on tv that are showing still good seats available for the race tomorrow! I wonder how many "fans" will show up?

Anonymous said...

Free scanner up and working, though only getting signal on the "All Drivers" one at present.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Great command.

Roadgeek Adam said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
Daly Planet Editor said...

Wonder how old Sarge is? Probably 65?

OSBORNK said...

The command was done by a perfect representative for NASCAR.

Roland said...

Im listening to todays race on radio with the TV muted, as I do for all broadcasts involving Marty. One thing Ive noticed, and I hate to say it, but Barney Hall has lost his touch. I dont know how old he is, but he forgets a lot of stuff and makes errors. Dont know how much long Barney will keep broadcasting.

Another thing, WWE has a Hall of Fame? Their scripted athletes can have a place to honor their scripted accomplishments? Interesting.

Vicky D said...

JD, old sarge is probably really really old - 64!

Palmetto said...

OSBORNK, I wasn't looking at the screen and didn't pay attention to the intro. I doubt this is the first time this child has performed before an audience; based on the number of people in the stands, they've probably been larger. But her personal courage isn't the point. I didn't think she did a very good job, and being young doesn't make her performance any more or less acceptable to me than I would have found it had she been 20 or 35.

Sally said...

Which makes him a perfect pick for ESPN's scripted coverage, no?

Roland said...

@Sally lol, couldnt have scripted that any better!

Jimm57 said...

Good Anthem!

Is Miami really a race town? I never thought so. The Finale should be in Charlotte if you ask me. Who's really going to the end of Florida for a race?

Hi ya Planeteers!

Vicky D said...

Yeah, ESPN is great! Well he's at the track every week, he doesn't have to watch the broadcasts like we do!

Daly Planet Editor said...

After what SPEED did with trucks last night, the pressure is on for sure.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Nah I've wanted the finale in Talladega. Don't mind Homestead being the finale though.

Sally said...

C'mon, JD. ESPN thinks everything they do is perfect. It's we unschooled fans that are wrong. I'm sure they feel no pressure whatsoever to do a thing differently.

Daly Planet Editor said...

I was pretty vocal on Twitter last night.

Sally said...

Did I just see a car pull down pit road on the pace lap? A race car, not the pace car.

Roadgeek Adam said...

That took long...

Vicky D said...

Think Tony Stewart should have bought Morgan Shepherd a new engine instead of tires!

NeverNeutral said...

The caution had come out, just took them a while to put the graphic up

Roadgeek Adam said...

I saw that as Eric McClure, not sure how DJ & Andy missed that.

Buschseries61 said...

I don't think Jarrett & Petree know the difference between McClure & Clements. Carl Edwards gets more coverage in 1 race than these two do all season.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Awkward start!

NeverNeutral said...

Looks like we just got a sneak preview of the garage cams referred to in that press release

Daly Planet Editor said...

72 cams, garage cams overhead view and elevated iso cams on 99 and 14.

Buschseries61 said...

Did ESPN just have Brewer explain how to pull tape? After showing a replay of it? Really?

Daly Planet Editor said...

YEP!

Sally said...

And during the Nationwide race. I'm already so sick of the 'Carl vs. Tony' line that I wish something ridiculous would happen tomorrow and someone else would win!

Buschseries61 said...

New layout? This track hasn't changed since 2003, Marty.

Anonymous said...

"72 cams, garage cams overhead view and elevated iso cams on 99 and 14."

Seems like a lot of hardware for what may very will be a 2 camera shoot. Zoom in will be the words of the day.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Steven oops

DaveM4210 said...

Wow! I just saw a shot with at least 6 cars at one time!

Palmetto said...

And that's why Steven always has an in-car camera.

Buschseries61 said...

This is awful.

ChrisK said...

Who won the Wallace crash lap pool today?

OSBORNK said...

When Steve has the in-car camera, we get a first hand look at most of the wrecks.

Buschseries61 said...

Wonder who Rusty is going to pay to handle Steven in 2012...

Roadgeek Adam said...

Blake Koch in the 31.....you mean 81..

Buschseries61 said...

Marty correction #2: Blacke Koch is in the 81, not the 31.

Jimm57 said...

I guess we'll only be seeing the first 6 or so cars today. I thought there were more

Vicky D said...

I am already sick of this TV crew just loving the cup guys in this race. Not too much said about DP either. And I couldn't believe BD saying Elliott Sadler is good enough to be in cup. He's been there and lost his rides no he's not. And MR is giddy talking about the cars out of the race.

Buschseries61 said...

sigh...Blake Koch.

Roadgeek Adam said...

And its over.

Buschseries61 said...

Start & Parks help determine the champion, very fitting for 2011.

GinaV24 said...

Forgot to switch from the other blog! LOL

NorCalFan, we were talking about Gordon's season. I totally agree about the points.

So far at least they are using wider shots.

Did Marty just say that Stenhouse has already clinched the championship at this point in the race?

Wow, that makes this race broadcast kind of anticlimatic.

sbaker17 said...

The 'competition caution' should be sponsored by 5 Hour Energy Drink

Vicky D said...

Now that the champ & the viewers have been notified, ESPN will really concentrate on the cup guys.

GinaV24 said...

VickyD, no doubt about that! And I read that the stands aren't very full either.

I do like the fact that someone other than one of the Cup drivers is the winner.

GinaV24 said...

commercials, commercials, commercials.

Sally said...

Judging by his pathetic need to misspell his version of smutty humor, I think he's already there.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Sally, I'd like to say worse things to him, but its not a smart move.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Don't feed the trolls!

Anonymous said...

There are more people in the stands at the Arizona Fall League Baseball championship game then at the NNS final race.

Buschseries61 said...

The only good camera shots today have been on restarts. That's it.

Daly Planet Editor said...

So, does Ricky know he won yet? Did they fix the radio stuff?

Daly Planet Editor said...

Man, this is rough so far! Come on guys, TV rally caps!

Vicky D said...

AP there's racing all over the track? Why aren't we seeing it then?

DaveM4210 said...

Gee...ESPN just said there is racing all over the track. So why don't they open up the cameras and show all of it?

Roadgeek Adam said...

Cup drivers 1 - 4....

Buschseries61 said...

6 laps, commercial.

NorCalFan said...

Andy Petree: "We have racing all over this track".

Why then, ESPN, are we folks at home watching the race out of Ricky Stenhouse's windshield?

Roadgeek Adam said...

Wow...talk about serious issues.

Daly Planet Editor said...

They are absolutely showing us they are following a script. This coverage now makes no sense at all.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Adam, just a kid with nothing to do. Still upset about something a long time ago. Kind of sad actually.

GinaV24 said...

JD, maybe someone needs to whack the booth guys with a rally towel to get them to focus!

Roadgeek Adam said...

John, but there are serious reputation issues with his theft of handles.

That's why I get pissed off. I use my handle for a lot of things.

Anonymous said...

Tell you what Speed can make a rather dull turning race watchable than ESPN. ESPN just makes the race so boring to watch because all the want to do is show 5 drivers and that's it.

Anonymous said...

The scanners are better than the tv audio ...

Disney never told us about the 12's jackman face planting into the door number on the Lap 36 caution

Buschseries61 said...

ESPN is dragging this race down. Can we move outside the top 8 and find some racing? They haven't even touched Danica. Probably not on the script.

Daly Planet Editor said...

That's the idea Adam! Don't even respond to it. My house, I got it.

I am literally getting flooded on Twitter and email with fans pissed of at how bad this TV coverage is.

I don't know what else to say. ESPN is a mess. Stands are empty, champ won on start and park cars, coverage sucks...cocktail for disaster.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Cup drivers are overly dominant here.

Buschseries61 said...

The Script:

Tony vs. Carl
Owner Points

glenc1 said...

speaking of cocktails...well, maybe a little early yet. Might make the coverage better, though.

Daly Planet Editor said...

How possibly could this be any worse? Radio guys calling the racing on the track and TV sticking to a script that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Buschseries61 said...

Marty: Does it tell you how good these guys are?

Dale & Andy:.........

They're so bored, they don't even care about the Cup guys!

Roadgeek Adam said...

Radio frequency issues, there's a rare issue.

Buschseries61 said...

Turning off this terrible mess for dinner. See everyone at the end.

Roadgeek Adam said...

It took Roger that long to realize this?

Anonymous said...

jd have you heard about the crowd for tomorrow? any chance of a sell out

GinaV24 said...

oh let's talk about one car at a time, too.

Gee, I am so excited about this race, I don't think I can stand it (sarcasm intended).

Well since it's already dark her in NJ and I am staying in tonight, I think a cocktail to get through this poor excuse for a race broadcast is a good idea.

Daly Planet Editor said...

They emailed me like a million times this week with ticket discounts.

Not too sure anyone down this way cares! It's not a NASCAR crowd below Daytona.

I hope the good weather brings some folks out who just drive over.

saltsburgtrojanfan said...

Just a mess.

The Bureaucracy of NASCAR is driving fans away one by one.

I'm glad i got out before it got bad

Zetona said...

Shame about the crowd. This is one of the best tracks on the schedule, and the racing is great.

They finally mentioned Nelson Piquet! I was wondering if they'd ever do that.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Great time for the caution.

GinaV24 said...

JD, the trouble, too is that it is expensive to travel to this race if you are coming any distance. It was by far the most expensive trip we did all year the 3 years we went.

AND it is the weekend before Thanksgiving - even traveling back on Monday was a pain in the neck.

I really like the track, but the racing wasn't worth close to $1,000 for the weekend to me.

DaveM4210 said...

BSPN is totally destroying this race! I finally gave up and muted the TV. The MRN guys are fantastic! Thank Gawd for Sirius/XM because I don't have access to a MRN station.

Roadgeek Adam said...

One shuffled lineup now.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Gina, it's about a 2.5 hour drive from my house. Ran the numbers for staying there three nights and tickets. Not happening.

Totally agree with what you are saying.

Daly Planet Editor said...

SD, the radio guys are simply fantastic today! Rarely do I give up on TV but the script today is awful.

Zetona said...

Take a shot for every time Rusty says "flat flying" and Marty says "meat in the sandwich" and you might die of alcohol poisoning.

CRZ said...

Marty has called Kevin Conway "Mike Conway" at least once, and maybe twice, tonight.

I also appreciated the return of the vintage "meat in the sandwich" call.

I'm sure gonna miss not hearing from Marty until next season, if ever. I may have to give up watching this series.

DaveM4210 said...

@GinaV24 I am betting lots of people stay away tomorrow. Getting into and around Homestead is going to be a major cluster with the First Lady and Dr Jill Biden at the track tomorrow! Everyone will probably have to go through scanners.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Said they would check all bags, but she is just there before and for the green.

Roland said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
Zetona said...

Wow, that was a case of framing the battle for the lead so tightly that you couldn't even see the lapped car they nearly ran over.

DaveM4210 said...

JD, ya probably oughtta plan on listening to radio tomorrow too! I can easily see it being worse than this race.

Anonymous said...

Is there an online radio station to listen to the race?

saltsburgtrojanfan said...

All ESPN has to do is show us the racing on the track and let the race be the storyline

Roadgeek Adam said...

Well at least the Nationwide drivers are putting a fight.

Kenny Wallace in 8th! No mention..

GinaV24 said...

JD, well, if you're that close and it isn't economical for you to do, we can't be the only people who can crunch the numbers and come up with NO as the answer.

Roadgeek Adam said...

I will be missing the Cup race as I've said. Non-profit dinner goes priority over NASCAR, not like I'm missing much.

Daly Planet Editor said...

So, they just managed to tell Ricky he is the champ. Still driving hard.

w17scott said...

Mr Editor -
Spent quite a bit of time channel-surfing DirecTV, but didn't find the race (LOL)...as usual, MRN team providing all the racing action ...ESPN is missing another great race ...oh well, will give it another try tomorrow.
Walter

Daly Planet Editor said...

Anon, you can hunt around a bit on the IheartRadio app or the MRN website. Officially, nothing is allowed online.

saltsburgtrojanfan said...

If i were you guys i'd write to ESPN and tell them how you feel. You should flood the mail room with complaints.

52 said...

Stepped aside with Marty for a commercial about an hour ago and
forgot to come back. NC State
beating Clemson 37 to 6 late in
the 3rd.

Can we tie Rusty and Brad's hands?

Sally said...

Really? Still 90 laps to go? ESPN proves how to take an event that might actually be exciting, and turn it into the most boring way to waste an afternoon/evening. What a pity. Someone needs to duct tape Brian france to a chair and make his sit thru tape of every telecast this season to show him why Nascar is losing viewers...in spite of the miniscule rise the loves to crow about.

Zetona said...

Would an Internet petition against ESPN make sense? Get someone with some leverage to announce it, and see how many fans sign it. Make it a demand for changes or something.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Too...many...cup....drivers....

GinaV24 said...

Adam, enjoy your dinner tomorrow. I'm talking to some friends about doing a bike ride tomorrow since it's supposed to be nice and if we do, we'll probably do dinner too.

I'm sure not going to rush home for ESPN's weak coverage.

Daly Planet Editor said...

No, I talk to the ESPN guys all the time. They are doing what their bosses tell them to do.

Nothing is going to change unless ESPN top production management changes...and that is not going to happen.

We are NOTHING to them as NASCAR fans. Trust me. Been there and done that.

Anonymous said...

This actually looks like a fun track to see a race live...is it? Too bad its so inconvenient.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Homestead is not a place you want to stay. Drive to Miami is long and hotels are expensive.

Anonymous said...

So this is Bodenheimer? Pray for Bodenheimer's Baby.

Anonymous said...

Try KQQL, Anoka, Minnesota.

Roland said...

Missed a caution because of a full screen replay. Come on man. They got split screen, use it!!!!!!!!!!

GinaV24 said...

Anon, yes, it is a really fun place to watch a race. Nice track, usually nice weather and with the progressive banking, they really do race all the grooves.

We stayed just outside of Ft. Lauderdale and drove back & forth to the track because as JD said, it is way too expensive to stay in Homestead.

52 said...

Definitely very few in attendance.
JD, I agree there are not any
race fans south of Daytona. Come
to think of it not many Marlin's
fans either. Maybe the new covered field will help. Lots of
money down there, right?

saltsburgtrojanfan said...

JD

If NASCAR fans mean nothing to ESPN, WHY DID THEY BUY THE RIGHTS TO AIR NASCAR??????????????

Anonymous said...

Man...Sadler can't catch a break. :(

Roland said...

Im a Braves fan so I got to see a lot of Marlins home games over the years when we play them. I swear, sometimes there are more people in my house than at those games, and I live alone. Timmy Hill's fan club party probably attracts more people than that.

Sally said...

One plus...they have barely mentioned Danica today. Along with about 50% of the field.

AncientRacer said...

Couple of at-track notes the booth will not tell you on a borrowed computer.

*GinaV/24 THANK YOU! I dang near forgot about Alice's. I have remembered it from time to time (usually when I think about your cats; how are they, btw?), but never put on the i-phone calendar.

*This race is being well received by the crowd and there are more here than are apparent. Really.

*The chorus of Boos when DuckBoy won the Pole for tomorrow was deafening. Truly.

*Smoke is gettting big props from everyone I have seen since he funded Morgan Shepherd (who did not get far but started). Smoke has definitely won the battle for the hearts and minds of the hardcores.

*Security is unbelieveably tight in areas where a card is required. Everybody says it is because Michelle Obama and Jill Biden will be here tomorrow.

*There is a great deal of excitement here on the ground for tomorrow that I can only ascribe to the fact Voldemort and Weasley are out of it. Fans WANT a new Champion (me among them).

*In line with that the place is kinda beginning to look like what I guess a V-8 Supercar Race looks like. Wear Red for Chevy; Blue for Ford. Chevy appears to be winning. I am in Red, btw. How 'bout you?

*BZF t-shirts are in evidence. Not kind one either. Ones that say things like "Fine This, Brian!" (with appropriate graphics -- use your imagination).

*KyBu is "The Invisible Man" He Who (though he will drive tomorrow) Must Not Be Mentioned". That one makes me sad -- for reasons you regulars know. *sigh*

More later, like tomorrow, if I think of it.

Cheers!

Daly Planet Editor said...

No, George runs the company. The production philosophy is Norby Williamson, who is in charge of both the studio and the remote production.

Norby came from SportsCenter and is not a hardcore sports field production type.

That is why you see talking heads everywhere for ESPN now and over-production of every single big event.

Norby thinks more on-air personalities are the solution to lots of problems.

Tried to watch SportsCenter these days?

Daly Planet Editor said...

Thanks AR!

Jimm57 said...

And another Caution during commercial!

NascarNut said...

Did Marty just say there is alot of great racing action? WHERE??? WE ARE NOT SEEING IT MARTY!!

Daly Planet Editor said...

NN, the booth guys have said it several times as if they are trying (in their own way) to get a clue to the producer.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Someone needs to credit Robert Richardson Jr. Top 20 tonight.

Anonymous said...

I've watched the entire race and read all the posts here, without comment.Allow me to share my observations. First, kudos to the camera operators for avoiding showing how empty the stands are. We're all tough on Tim Brewer, but it has to be the Production Truck that forces him to go On Air to explain helmet 'tear-offs' at the end of the season. There have been many predictable incidents today. A couple that come to mind are Steve Wallace wrecking and Sadler finding a way to lose. Marty Reid's choice of words and phrases throughout the broadcast is mind boggling. Best kept secret of the weekend is Tony Eury Jr and JR Motorsports getting busted for not having the chassis weights in Danica's car secured. $10,000 fine for Tony. Mercifully, the season will end tomorrow. All I want for Christmas is a raceable COT car so perhaps we can offer the fans a better product than these snoozers.

Anonymous said...

ESPN outside of live ball games is unwatchable. They get NHRA because it is heads-up-win or lose-and that's not complicated. They treat everyone like learning disabled four year olds with dyslexia in all programming that is not a live ball game. They should have just one show around the clock, since all the shows look and sound alike.

NascarNut said...

I guess ESPN figures Wallace will bring out more than one caution so no need to break away from a commercial.

Daly Planet Editor said...

NHRA is produced by an outside packager! That's why it works.

This is a production philosophy that is unstoppable. NASCAR cashed the check and will not say a thing.

So hard to watch the core telecast with audio. MRN and the scanners are the show today.

Anonymous said...

It will be great to have support tomorrow from those two blue collar race fans from Washington (Michelle and Jill). Someone ought to ask them to name a half dozen drivers! Lol

GinaV24 said...

Hi, Ancient, thanks for the at track update - always nice to hear.

Cats are doing great. Both are curled up next to me and the computer on the couch.

Oh boy, forgot that the world's most important wives will be at the track tomorrow - really glad now we didn't go - security silliness plus the airport silliness would be too much for me.

I will be in RED also! Sorry that Duckboy got the pole, that will make the Burger King's job even tougher tomorrow.

I, too, am happy that Voldemort & Weasley will not be taking home the 10 race trophy tomorrow.

Sorry (because you are) that KyBu will be unmentionable tomorrow (at least by TV) but since you will be there, you can enjoy watching him do his thing anyway regardless of camera time.

Cheer for my old guy - it would be sweet for him to win at Homestead - just one more box to check off and if he can wiggle back into the top 10 in points, I'll be really happy.

It still seems silly to me that in the "new and improved" points system in this version of the 10 race trophy hunt, a driver with no wins can finish higher in the points than a driver with 3 wins on the season.

I am therefore in much agreement with all of the t-shirt slogans badmouthing the ludicrous but somehow omnipotent BZ France.

Cut to the in-car and missed it.

ESPN forces this storyline style with every property. I watched some of the MNF game for the first time in a long time this past Monday. It fit the template we see here, it's painfully obvious during NBA and CFB coverage as well.

Our only hope is the leagues look elsewhere during contract time. But, highly unlikely the four letter can just open OUR checkbooks and be he highest bidder.

I hope directv plays some serious hard ball when there up to bat next season.

There is a #70 on the move.

I started watching with 50 laps to go - America's Cup World Series racing just ended and they have never said how many laps the race is, just how many to go.

The last laugh is on NASCAR, anyway. The best race in the state of Florida every year is The Snowball Derby and it doesn't have the NASCAR name on it anywhere. A good palate-cleansing race after a year of FOXTNTESPNBS.

Steve Wallace out of the race. That guy needs a truck ride.

Is that you Bob Dillner!? Hehe...

Back from commercial, run one lap, show one lap full screen replay, then off to another commercial. Wow!

Zetona, as JD pointed out, NASCAR cashed the check and they hum merrily to the bank even though their core customer, the fans, are often unhappy.

I don't know who actually reads the fan council surveys. Based on comments from BZF and his utter amazement last year that someone might not have (gasp) liked the chase, I know the info isn't getting to him. Then again, maybe like ESPN, the staff at NASCAR just do what they are told.

Last one out, turn out the lights.

Watching on a Web stream, and on the live chat they're complaining that no coverage is being given to the rookie championship. If Timmy Hill wins, he says he'll do burnouts, apparently.

I have DirecTV here in SC and Dish in MD. If DirecTV goes up to keep ESPN I'll stick with online listening of the races vs paying a higher price to view these awful races they show.

Poor Bayne, eliminated Stenhouse's lead.

GinaV24 said...

split screen with 3 cup drivers and Stenhouse. Doesn't that say it all about their focus?

Roadgeek Adam said...

No Gina, that shows why the series needs a good neutering, Cup driver neutering.

No way Stremme can stay up there, but gosh, wouldn't that be an amazing story if he could win the race?
