In-Progress At Milwaukee: Craftsman Trucks On SPEED (Updated)
The Truck Series comes to Milwaukee for another good battle on the kind of track that is well-suited for this series.
Rick Allen and Phil Parsons will call the action and as usual Ray Dunlap and Adam Alexander will handle the pit road reporting duties. Krista Voda will begin the night with The Set-Up pre-race show at 9PM Eastern Time.
Things to look for tonight are the contrast in styles between a race with Michael Waltrip as the third booth announcer and this race with just Allen and Parsons. The last short-track race was a wreck-fest, and it should be interesting to see how everyone behaves on this fast and flat oval. Look for the pit reporters to have plenty of stories to discuss.
This just in: A Daly Planet reader points to this story on Jayski that basically tells the tale of a Truck Series team that will make the regular NASCAR driver, Chad Chaffin, step-out of the Truck during the race to let a paid driver take-over. British driver Paul Poulter has brought financial support to the team, and just as we have often seen in Sports Car racing, will be racing "his" truck. Let's see what the SPEED guys have to say about it.

JD,
Allow me to indulge on a storyline I would like to see Speed cover tonight for the truck race that may remind you of your Formula One days.
Jayski has a Tennessean item about Paul Poulter, a British driver who will be relieving Chad Chaffin in the #40 this evening because he has "brought financial support to the team"
That sounds strangely like one of the least appealing storylines in F1 - the pay driver. Riccardo Rosset, Giovanni Lavaggi and others who were often so slow that they failed to be within the 107% rule.
Remember the 107% rule?
I think this needs at least a little attention to see if its a limited financial issue for one team or a larger sign about the financial status of teams in general.
Anon 7:58PM,
I updated the story with the link, and pointed viewers to the fact that Allen and Parsons are going to have to deal with this issue on-the-air.
Thanks again for the tip.

Another "Local Singing Sensation" that had to be muted. The bikes are great though.
I was thinking the same thing Vicky.
When did the National Anthem become a dirge?
I'm sorry to say I had to look that "big" word up. Never have heard it before. Pretty good way to describe the way it was sung though.
I've learned my thing for the day.
A dirge is a somber song expressing mourning or grief, such as would be appropriate for performance at a funeral.
Well, they brought up the "new" driver of the 40 truck right away. It's a great track to have a super race on.
It was only 5 letters, hardly big. ;)
And no worries, I was in school bands for 5 or 6 years, I know all those big words...
They glossed-over the British driver pretty well.
Think the two announcers in the booth are hyped-up a bit to make sure fans don't miss Waltrip?
JD
Anyone having sound issues, few seconds of silence then fine, Has happened a few times. I am actually missing Michael tonight.
They must have spoke quick. I missed it. But that was about the time I was learning my word for the day.(lol)
Is there anywhere that has live scoring?
I hate the scroll, can't keep up.
Ams fan I haven't been able to find it but I stopped looking a few races back
I was just looking for it too. the only thing I could find was TrackPass, and I'm not paying for it.
Yep, still wishing.
JD, have you heard what races Doug Richert will be on? I understand he will be replacing Mikey. Can you add anything?
Rick Trackpass is only MRN/PRN not scoring for Trucks and NW
Trackpass does scoring only for cup.
Well, then I'm glad I didn't sign up.
What is the 107% rule, please?
No SetUp listed on my guide. Cup qualifying was listed 7:00-9:00.
ams fan,
SPEED is still working on what to do with him. Update next week.
JD
Brad's doing a nice job in the booth
I think the booth confused him as Brian when he was leaving. Easy mistake to make, but one that shouldn't happen.
To bad about the bad accident, yet the original wide camera shot showed it really well.
Good verbal explanation of whats happening & who is involved.
I just looked up the radar and the storm went barely south, should be clear the rest of the night.
Anon: Are you saying it's boring because they're not wrecking every 15 laps? Just because the field is a bit spread out doesn't make it bad racing.
They need to put an "Easy-Rider" rifle rack in these things.
Spark things up more.
I thought Brad did a great job in the booth too but I missed them call him Brian. I don't think this race is boring either.
uh oh....the booth may need to be evacuated. that lightning can be dangerous up there.
this race is boring? what the hell are you talking about?
Just got a chance to sit down and watch!!! rain rain go away!
Where was Chrissy Wallace running?
I thought Brad was very good, and contributed to the quality of the broadcast while he was there.
Being one of three brothers whose names all start with the same letter, I am betting that Brian and Brad are quite used to being called by each other's names. My mother and my grandmother both used to do it to us all the time, along with teachers and many others.
karen,
If I recall, the old 107% rule was a requirement that the F1 backmarker cars had a qualifying speed within 107% of the pole sitter in order to be allowed to start the race. Many paying drivers and teams with outdated equipment frequently failed to be fast enough.
anon, thanks. I had just googled it and you're right.
I enjoyed the coverage of the race. Phil and Rick did ok in the booth. Nice view of the finish w/the drop down on the upper left.
Good show as usual.
It sure would be nice to try Rick, Phil, and Larry Mac for a Sunday broadcast. They would definitely be a great team for the Saturday race!
Missed Krista tonight.
It will be good when Doug starts. If anything is missing it's a crew chief point of view.
Got to listen to truck last night. Can't stand Mikey's rant and voice.Phil has great voice.
Tks.JD. Ron Il.
