In-Progress At The Glen: Nationwide Race (ABC 2:30 PM ET)

THERE IS A NEW POST UP FOR YOUR COMMENTS ABOUT THIS RACE. REFRESH YOUR BROWSER OR CLICK ON THE LOGO AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE.

Saturday is a very busy day for Dr. Jerry Punch and the entire NASCAR on ESPN team. That will continue at 2:30PM ET when coverage of the Nationwide Series will switch over to the ABC Television Network.

Allen Bestwick will begin the telecast by hosting NASCAR Countdown. This pre-race show will feature Bestwick in the Infield Pit Studio with Rusty Wallace and Brad Daugherty. The program is scheduled for thirty minutes in length.

Next-up will be Punch along with his "booth team" of Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree. By the time 3PM rolls around, Punch and company will have already done three hours of live NASCAR TV on Saturday. Now, it will be time to call the full Nationwide Series race.

Shannon Spake, Mike Massaro, Jamie Little and Dave Burns will join this telecast as pit reporters. Once again, this type of road course racing is very different and pit road is no exception. Pit strategy should be interesting to follow during the race.

Last week in Montreal, eleven cars were out of the race with less than 20 laps gone in the event. It should be interesting to watch the ESPN graphic ticker and follow the attrition in the rear of the field.

Also like Montreal, this Nationwide field consists of Sprint Cup cross-over drivers, road course specialists and a tattered field of Nationwide regulars. The on-track dynamic once the race begins should be fun to watch.

This post will serve to host your comments about the Nationwide Series race on ABC Sports. To add your TV-related opinion, just click on the COMMENTS button below and follow the easy instructions. The rules for posting are located on the right side of the main page. Thank you for taking the time to stop by The Daly Planet.

Wow. "By the way you Denny Hamlin fans, he went the garage awhile back." Still didn't hear any mention of what happened to Cassill.

geez, I was screaming at the TV screen that Jimmie was out of gas, while the TV guys were completely oblivious! Hello guys, what race are you (or aren't you?) watching? ARgh, terrible

Morgan Shepherd has now run 10 more laps than his age.

Poor Doc can't tell the difference between getting onto pitroad and off pitroad.

Thank goodness we got a non cup series winner when they were all over this field. It is the only saving grace for this telecast.

Now Doc sounds energized.

Can't wait till the cup race tomorrow! Not for the TV coverage, but because we can at least listen to MRN!

It's as if Jerry Punch has never seen a NASCAR race.

Gonna be a VERY LONG last half of the NASCAR season.

Two notes

1) An STP car won for the first time in a while

2) Why did the caution for the #66 off course come when it did, that car was stopped well before Ambrose passed that point on the final lap.

Cool to see the cat in the hat down there in VL to congratulate him.

@anon 5:38--folks have been spelling it like that for years...I believe I've seen it from the time I got into NA$CAR and on boards about 2K1.

Truly has there been a story all day JP? I don't think y'all know what you were to be covering all day...all I received was stuff that makes no sense and the stuff that *should* be covered went totally ignored or covered up with other nonsense!

Congratulations Marcos and all the Devils!

Yay for the aussie....glad t wasb;t a cup driver...his crew chief was genuinely thrilled and choked up a bit.

Good thing we could SEE some of the action and had access to this blog for some of us. Can't afford a brick thru the tele.

Dario!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Will they interview Logano? 1st time at The Glen and he finishes 7th

This same exact television crew will be at this same track tomorrow for a longer race with more cars on the track (no start-and-park) and even more differing strategies than we saw in today's race.

Does anyone have any optimism for a halfway decent broadcast tomorrow considering what we saw today? I, for one, sure can't find a reason to be optimistic after seeing what I saw just now.

Very happy for Ambrose.

Thanks, JD.

Some of us would have been foaming at the mouth if we couldn't keep up with things on this site.

Pollyanna is to grounded in reality to be hopeful

The Indy car race is delayed by softball on ESPN2. Wow.

What a mess. No, make that disaster. ESPN fumbled and bumbled their way through this one today. If it weren't for DJ and Petree, the Natiowide races would not be tolerable.

How many times was the same thing repeated about fuel mileage? About the same drivers? Several?? Ridiculous. You think that ESPN would at least have the smarts to have one of their reporters actually GO and TALK to a crew chief about fuel mileage. They basically just sat there and played the guessing game among themselves.

It took them 59 laps to give viewers an update on Denny Hamlin? I have no words for this one that are fit for print.

And what about whats-her-name mistakenly saying that Boris was on Marcos' back bumper? Thank goodness one of her co-workers quickly corrected that one.

I only watched the race today because Eddie D'Hondt had a car in the field. I don't even care for Kyle Busch, either, who was driving for him.

Congrats to Marcos for his win and Eddie D'Hondt/Kyle Busch for their 2nd place finish.

I was pretty surprised they finally mentioned Junior, after three-quarters of the race went by...until I found he was in the Top-10. (Once he pitted and went out of the top-10, he wasn't brought up again.)

Apparently, the new rule at ESPN is, only talk about cars in the top-10, or Kyle Busch no matter where he is.

Unacceptable.

No wonder Indy race gets no ratings...bumped off A LOT due to minutia tv. :(

How many have espn360?

I don't know what we are gonna do next year....TW in our area no Versus.

But today's NASCAR race was ...well, will go to your new column
