Sprint Cup Qualifying On SPEED

Another challenge awaits the SPEED crew as they will try to time-shift qualifying from Noon to 1PM on Saturday afternoon.

The Petit LeMans sports car race is live on SPEED until 1PM, so it will be a pre-recorded Steve Byrnes who hosts the Sprint Cup qualifying. Byrnes will be joined by Jeff Hammond and Larry McReynolds to call the action. Veterans Wendy Venturini and Bob Dillner will be handling the interviews from pit road.

This should be a rather straightforward session, with Talladega and the restrictor plate making the qualifying simply an exercise in safety for the Top 35 teams.

This post will serve to host your comments about the coverage of qualifying on SPEED. To add your TV-related opinion, just click on the COMMENTS button below and follow the easy directions. The rules for posting are located on the right side of the main page. Thanks for taking the time to stop by The Daly Planet.

BORING TAPED qualifying in place of LIVE racing!!!!guess that's what happens when you sell your soul. I don't like, but understand the LIVE truck race in place of an already started LIVE race, but for qualifying when you don't show the race, can be only for money grubbing reasons!

At least we have a decent team covering the qualifying and let's face it, sometimes it is somewhat done by tape anyhow, so I really don't see the big deal, at least we are seeing it before the truck race comes on and at least we are not being subjected to Jerry Punch.

I was going to have to DVR it anyway (painting shutters is such fun, between coats at the moment) if it was on ESPN it would take me 20 minutes to watch, FF thruogh most of it since it's Speed I blocked out my Sat night.

Anon 1:09PM,

This is the ESPN/ABC portion of the Sprint Cup Series races.

SPEED has shown the Petit LeMans long before the new NASCAR TV contract changed hands.

Unfortunately, without lights at Talladega it was impossible to run Cup qualifying and still get the Truck race cranked-up for 4PM.

I don't know what your motivation is or who you work for, but I sure can guess.

Outstanding interview with Tony Jr.

Having a "Junior-free day" was hilarious.

yes, that really did crack the booth up, didn't it? Nice to see Jr. signing autographs too.

@JD--yes I loved that "junior-free-day" comment from Cousin Tony! That was too funny!

I like when they chat with the CCs...very fun :). Some aren't good TV but it's still fun to hear from them :)

Herman being his usual hot mess!

Why not use the standard FRIDAY CUP qualifying?

John Darby, ya listening?

I'm sure NASCAR could care less about the ALMS, we all know it would be different if it was their GrandAm series!

I think the reason NASCAR schedules qualifying on Saturday at Talladega is because it is an impound race and the track wants or needs to have a reason ($$$) for the fans to go to the track each day. BTW, it should be interesting to see how many empty seats there are here tomorrow. I've heard only 70% of the seats have been sold.

I didn't watch. Talladega qualifying is excruciating to watch as it is (with each car taking 2+ minutes) and already knowing the results online made watching totally unnecessary.

I thank SPEED for showing it but wish they would have shown it live.
