Live Blogging Monday's NASCAR TV

Update: ESPN has added a re-air of the Watkins Glen Sprint Cup Series race at 9PM ET on ESPN Classic. Great move.

The RaceDay gang says they are raring to go at Watkins Glen and waiting for 11AM to come on the air. SPEED will handle the one hour pre-race show and then ESPN will start live coverage of the rain delayed Sprint Cup Series race at noon ET.

John Roberts, Jimmy Spencer and Kenny Wallace are the RaceDay panel. Wendy Venturini and Hermie Sadler are the reporters. This program should feature the weather, the Nationwide Series race and reset the grid for the Cup Series event.

ESPN has Jerry Punch, Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree calling the race. Down on pit road will be Jamie Little, Dave Burns, Shannon Spake and Vince Welch.

The racing should be outstanding with the new restart rules and hopefully good weather will allow things to go off without a hitch.

This race re-airs on SPEED at noon ET on Wednesday in a three hour timeslot. NASCAR Now is on ESPN2 at 5PM. Will be pushed back if race runs long.

This post will serve to host your comments on the Monday NASCAR TV from SPEED and ESPN. To add your TV-related opinion, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thank you for taking the time out of your Monday to stop by The Daly Planet.

Anyone note that the ESPN graphic for the 47 said "Busch Beans In-Car" the first time they used it?

MikeC said...

Doesn't appear as if Kyle will gain much on Biffle in the race to the Chase

missed the pass for 2nd...

rear bumper cams do not work on a road course.

...or anywhere else, really.

The Loose Wheel said...

Bumper and roof cams work. They have just got incredibly overused in the last 8 years. ESPN used to use an excellent blend around 1999-2000.

MikeC said...

How could they have missed Kyle's problem live? Reactionary broadcasting just isn't gonna cut it!

boyd said...

Maybe the video professor can sell JP a 'how to be a NASCAR PxP' video

Haus14 said...

spin in turn one sadler, carpentier - sadler gone, carpentier trying to refire

Haus14 said...

sometime this commercial thing needs to even out - this is almost as bad as TNT a few years ago

The Loose Wheel said...

55 and 19 spin in turn 1

Haus14 said...

both cars back on track - caution out

The Loose Wheel said...

Jr back out on track

MRN says Jr back on track -29 laps

I still can not get over how great JPM's team is on the radio...how dry JPM is....he is my new favorite

Daly Planet Editor said...

Mna, do we need a reset...

The Loose Wheel said...

I heart...if only I had the adapter so I could run my sirius in house...

darbar said...

Boyd, maybe the Planeteers can get together and write "Nascar Broadcasting for Dummies" and send a copy to Dr Jerry

Comment on the Hallow -Dega comm'l. Umm any one else ever been to Dega fall race? It was always a Halloween party every year! Now its an "official event" LOL That infield is / was / always will be one of the most *ahem* interesting ones ;)

darbar said...

Do the drivers plan on having crashes when ESPN is on commercial? It sure seems that way.

TexasRaceLady said...

Did anyone ever get an interview with Jeff Gordon after the wreck?

I Heart 42 said...

David...I would find a way...this is been the best work day ever!

I will not complain when my wife goes to Target!

Anonymous said...

Here comes the rain boys. If it takes 2+ hours to fix the track and there's only like 5-10 laps left, will they call it? If so, another sick stroke of good luck for Tony Stewart.

Charlie said...

Caution 5 lap 71 , debris on the track from 19 car Sadler.

They have not send what lap this is since commercial. Had to go to Foxtrac to find out what lap.

Anonymous said...

MRN - yes with Jeff G...he was worried about his back...and the well being of the 77

The Loose Wheel said...

TRL, yes both ESPN and MRN got interviews

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry, the vocabulary and phrasing used by the female pit reporters on ESPN indicate they know about as much about the technical/strategy aspect of racing as my cat does.

darbar said...

TRL, yes, they spoke to Jeff. He said wrecks like his don't do any good for his bad back.

Charlie said...

send = said

boyd said...

TRL,
one of the pit barbies got him. He said that it was a tough hit, his back was spasming a little, but he'll bounce back.

TexasRaceLady said...

Thanks, friends.

I guess I just missed the TV interview.

SalB said...

Surely your cat has absorbed more knoweldge as it watches races with you every weekend? Don't insult your cat that way!

Anonymous said...

TRL - MRN had a good interview Jeff said back sore, says he will be ok MI is an easy track. MRN stated it was good to see him walk away normally

MikeC said...

Looks similar to Saturday's race behind Stewart. Looks like fuel-wise Busch is in the best shape.

darbar said...

Did you all notice how ESPN missed Jimmie's going off the track at the restart???

boyd said...

darbar, what they not missed?

darbar said...

Finally, they're showing some great racing in mid pack

Charlie said...

No one is doing PxP just chatting.

Haus14 said...

what a difference between radio and tv...tons of excitement on the radio coverage. on tv, the color guy is doing PxP because evidently the PxP guy has left the building.

Bristol, we have a problem!

I Heart 42 said...

I am really developing a man-crush on Brian Pattie. He is great on the box. He & JPM just have great racing chemistry

MikeC said...

DJ and Petree are wound-up for this homestretch call....too bad Jerry doesn't join them.

Anonymous said...

only took them til now to realize there is racing on the track

Charlie said...

More talking about where they will be in the chase points then what is happening on the track.

Daly Planet Editor said...

DJ and Andy have slowly taken over the PXP coverage for JP.

Must have been weird having Marty Reid on Saturday and now JP.

The Loose Wheel said...

heart,

sat in the car for about 5 minutes. Phoenix, AZ aint the best place to just sit in the car to listen to the radio lol.

back now. they are good to listen to, but i knew that before today =p

Bill Jordan said...

Great shot of about 1 inch of the splitter as kyle goes off the track. ABSOLUTE BS ESPN SHOW US THE FRIGGEN RACE

Anonymous said...

Hey...Mark Martin is in this race?

Huh.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Remember, we want your final race comments before you leave. There will be a new post up when the cars cross the finish line for your race wraps...

Charlie said...

Now a graphic on Chase point, under Green.

SalB said...

I've enjoyed JPM because he is so obviously enjoying the whole Nascar experience. So much friendlier than the F1 series.

Amol said...

There is rain about 8 miles west of the track per weather.com, but it should hold off if we go green until the end. Victory Lane might be wet though.

MikeC said...

Who cares if Stewart can clinch a spot in the chase....that's not important at this stage in the race!

I Heart 42 said...

David

They are big picture racing..they know the 18 is fading & think they are faster than the 99,16. But are not trying to get cute, keep telling him to bring it home!

darbar said...

OK children, let's talk math. The only thing I know is the maximum number of points you can gain is 170.

BTW, JD I saw your Tweet on Tim Cowlishaw's column and was absolutely freaked out by what he wrote. Sad story.

SalB said...

Once again the obsession with the stupid chase detracts from what is happening NOW!

Haus14 said...

JP, Martin may not have been here in 2 years, but Logano, who is 7 spots ahead of Martin, has never been here. Don't make excuses for Martin.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Sal, if you follow Montoya on Twitter you will see a great side of him. He is a funny family oriented guy. Posted pics of his kids at the beach.

When his wife Connie is at the track, she posts comments while he is racing.

MikeC said...

I think the 18 team is banking on the cars in front of them running out of fuel.

Anonymous said...

@MikeC you & I & every other F-A-N knows that! bspn has a script & they will all follow it - no matter how wrong or silly it makes them sound!

Charlie said...

At least two laps now just showing the top two cars.

MikeC said...

I could understand if they were at Atlanta or Richmond and talking about those close to 12th in points clinching a spot in the chase....but with 5 races go until then and the points leader can clinch....big deal! I'm sure that's the last thing on Tony's mind at this very moment.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Wow, five laps to go and not a shred of excitement.

Bill France Jr. must be rolling over in his grave.

SalB said...

JD...I have avoided the whole Twitter thing. I'm doing well just to multi task being here during the race!

Daly Planet Editor said...

So, NASCAR Now is going on early after the race. No clue if it will still re-air so the DVR's don't miss it.

ESPN having a very fun day...

The Loose Wheel said...

Heart, thats been their plan since before Indy. Juan said it this weekend, if they could get out of here with a top 5 or top 10 they would take it rather than risk it trying to win. They know once they get in the Chase they will throw everything they got at it and they will turn Juan loose on the field, they just want to be in it first.

I really think Target put it to Chip this year that they gotta perform or they are walking anyways. JMHO.

boyd said...

JD,
Jerry put Big Bill to sleep along time ago.

Mike said...

Jerry's repeating stats in the final laps!

darbar said...

Well, JD, France Jr is rolling in his grave, but Brian France is rolling in the money, so they don't care.

Anonymous said...

14 was good to go on fuel before the red flag....47 may not make it

Daly Planet Editor said...

Sal, it's easy as pie and well worth it for NASCAR fans, try it!

TexasRaceLady said...

This has been a total melt-down today.

Charlie said...

28 cars on lead lap and we are being shown 3.

MikeC said...

With the way they were talking about Stewart not being able to clinch, is as if they were to ask Stewart in victory lane "how he feels" like he's going to answer with, "The win's ok...but I'm really disappointed....I was hoping we would clinch a spot in the chase today."

Daly Planet Editor said...

From Mike Massaro:

looks like NASCAR Now will come on Live at 3:30...unscripted! should be fun.

Today would be different than any other Cup race on BSPN ?? LOL

Bill Jordan said...

Theres more then 2 cars in the race now right?

MikeC said...

Final lap and Tony is trying to make it on fuel and JP is silent.

Haus14 said...

yes! another unscripted ESPN nascar show. This will be a show actually worth watching.

Anonymous said...

HA HA! Awesome job Smoke! But once again, ESPeeU continues to fail miserably at providing a decent race broadcast.

The Loose Wheel said...

MRN really didn't talk about fuel. ESPN overblew it. Now what was it about Marcos making a huge mistake about not coming with the leaders on lap 19 now?
Rough.

I Heart 42 said...

BP..told JPM "I have something to tell you at the hauler"

JPM "great day - thank you"

BP "4 more races until the chase"

My days of ESPN/ABC have ended!

Sophia said...

I love Tony ....will anybody else cross the line?

sigh.

Ok we see sliding heads of what first 8 cars..then pit crew..then sliding heads continue. That sliding head deal has to go. Creepy.

BSPN...just when I think you can't disappoint more, you do. When will I learn to just stick with MRN for Cup races.

In and out of the room and bad cam work. Many voices here confirming it.

JD

How you can write a column without a bunch of &^%$&# marks is beyond me.

Thank you MRN guys

XOXO

KYLE...you are really dumb with math...you are racing the 16...AND THE 17 & 5...THEY DID NOT HAVE AS GOOD OF DAYS AS YOU....

I really want someone to keep him out of the chase!

I am sick to my stomach. That was a disgusting display of "coverage" by ESPN.

Glen Jarrett just shines in the winner interview! Asked about what it is like when the pit strategies get all screwy then work themselves out and what its like to wind up in the top 5, asked what it was like passing Kyle on those late restarts and then asked if the crowd turnout today is a good omen for the sport. No softball questions there, let Tony do alot of the talking.

Jamie asking questions a monkey can ask

I was on a call so couldn't go to a quick PT to hear what Kylie had to whine about. Hopefully it'll be on the NA$CAR site

The Loose Wheel said...

Annon, after today he IS racing the 17 and 5. 16 leaped over both with his run. Kyle has to beat either the 17, 6 or 16 every week from here on out. Not necessarily all of them

anon 3:24 said...

That was my point...his interview with MRN, Kyle complained about the 16 finishing in front of him, so we did not gain anything...sort of not realizing the big picture

In fact...he cut the margin to the top 12 by a nice chunk.

JGR should really replay his interviews..it was painful.
