I hope the "hill" people of Tennessee don't get offended by the opening segment...wow!
Can you even believe that one? I kept waiting for the payoff and there was not one...
Is there any way to turn down the volume on Kenny Wallace? It is bad enough that we have to listen to him spew his BS. But does he have to scream at us?
Frank in Sebring
are the driver intro song choices posted anywhere?
i must say, i didn't get that opening either.
Spencer and Wallace are buffoons. I'm tempted to record this pre-race show so I can fast-forward through their segments.
They offer nothing positive to the show. in fact, they're a detriment to the other great reporting.
Honestly Kenny, I could give a rat's behind what your crap car did last night in the N'Wide race. And I could also give a rat's behind about what advice Earnhardt Sr. gave you, something you manage to bring up a couple of times every week.

Once upon a time…..
When Race Day was an hour show and Jimmy and Kenny were just being themselves, I really enjoyed the show.
Present day……..
Race Day is a two hour show with lots of “stuff” in which I have no interest. Race Day is on my TV, muted. If I walk by and see Hermie or Wendy, I usually turn up the volume and watch. Jimmy and Kenny now play characters and I don’t enjoy the characters they play.
Sad.
Haus, I will have a link to the list on my live race blog post shortly.
If you want it now, Google Dustin Long under the news heading. He just updates the list.
Some of the songs are absolutely hilarious. What a great idea.
Unfortunately, ESPN will not show them due to the issue of having to pay rights fees for that music when it is played on TV.
Maybe that issue can be sorted out for the future. Same reason baseball intro music is not played, not a NASCAR conspiracy.
JD
JD, I was wondering if there would be any drivers w/"spoof" songs. I think that would definitely entertaining. Thanks for the info.
I can't wait to see Wendy's Real Deal w/Jr. Johnson! She tweeted earlier in the wk at she was at his farm at 5:30am & he fed her breakfast!
I don't usually just repost someone else's comment but Lisa has the same opinion and was able to put it in words.

I haven't watched a complete Raceday in weeks. Just not what it used to be.
Can you ever go wrong with Ken Squier?
I did not get that opening at all.
Earlier I notice lipsynch issues on all NASCAR shows INCLUDING Nperformance!! I also noticed NP added annoying graphic effects (shattering picture as they change scenes! mercy makes me dizzy)
Just saw Mark Martin's six pack. WOW, he must spend HOURS at the gym and eat like a freak. No wonder he is so focused! :)
Wow. MM has a 6 pack.

I SECOND YOUR POST!! I also loved RD when it was an HOUR!
now, just too much.
ALWAYS leave them wanting more is what they say in Show Business.
How sad we only get one hour of WT but two of Race Day.
I enjoy the gang ok..just too much minutia thrown into the show.
karenB
I wish you would learn to speak up and voice your honest opinions. ;-)
OMG, that was the most colorful fan at Bristol???? Girls that only know one word...sad.
I was finishing up my workout, was a couple of minutes off from when I thought I'd be done. What was the opening segment?
@JD--That was another concern I had about royalties in playing the songs. I rarely watch baseball so never realized they didn't have "theme" music. I like Hank Jr. so when I would remember I'd tune in for the Monday Night song.
@Sophia--yup he works out 7 days a week gets up IIRC about 5 am every morning and does I believe a 2 hour routine.
oops forgot to mention Mr. Squier's piece on Mark. That was awesome! I'm glad they're using him for pieces like this, Mr. Squier has done an awesome job! Great VO :)
Gymmie, both the players and the pitchers have music that is played in the stadium during the game.
It never makes it to the TV broadcast and that is sad.
High school cheerleaders? Apparently Rutledge couldn't score any celebrity interviews this week.
RD was much better in the one hour format. The current lead-in show, "NASCAR In A Hurry," would be a good compliment to a one-hour RaceDay. "Hurry" does engage in a little self-promotion, but it's only 30 minutes long and does offer a concise review of the week's events. Adam Alexander does a good job as host.
2 hours = 2 much.
Why the heck was NASCAR Now on so early this morning? I just caught the end of it. On top of that, they cut it short because of English soccer. Geez...
great Real Deal.
That was really cool to watch
anon 5:33PM,
The new ESPN soccer contract is going to be changing a lot of things.
Throw in the SEC college football deal and it should be a wild couple of months in NASCAR TV land.
You can always get the up to date TV listings on the right side of the TDP main page and we also publish them every day on Twitter.

Great feature on Junior Johnson. We need to see and hear more of the sport's pioneers while they're still alive and well.
Just checked ahead for the Labor Day weekend Nationwide race, also the opening weekend of College Football.
There is a college football game scheduled in a 3 hour window right before a 6:30pm NASCAR Countdown show on ESPN2. Get ready to flip over to Classic.
Gymmie
WOW. No wonder he has a six pack.
I must say I had mixed feelings on MM retirement..he kept changing mind..coming back...I thought he came back due to ego ala BF (will NOT mention that name!)
THEN on WTunnel last week he said his son did not want to race, and that was a key part in Mark stepping down to spend more time with son and family stuff. I did see an article years back about this that did not seem to stay online long (son not wanting to race)
But that said, I get why Mark had torn feelings about stopping full time & now, understand why he came back.
PammH, what girls that only know what word? Was out on patio adding more bird seed and missed it!?
Thank gawd for the long term professionalism of Ken Squier and the burgeoning, ever evolving, talents of Wendy Venturini.
Now let's find something suitable on the Cartoon Network for Kenny the Doof and Jimmy the Dork..........or at least a pair of socks they can share for oral usage.

NASCAR NEEDS to see this post. I couldn't agree more!
Oh I see! Thanks JD :) I've only been to one live baseball game when I was in College. It turned out to be the one where Orel Hershiser broke Don Drysdale's record of consecutive scoreless innings.
Sophia-they had cheerleaders "cheering" Nascar is AWESOME! Bristol is AWESOME! ack-it was sad..
and can't explain the opening-just too strange. Ask JD.
You didn't miss anything Sophia, they had some high school cheerleaders doing some stupid "Bristol is great! NA$CAR is great!" cheer. Nom nom nom for the birdies :)
I'm so grateful that we've never had to see "Think With Your Dipstick" and "Smilin' Bob" in the same commercial break.
PammH
I noticed the Johnny Cash tune in the opening..other than that, I had no clue what was going on.
AWESOME is the most overused word in the last 15 years imho. I always want to give people a Thesaurus.
Can I just say I HATE this "think with your dipstick" for a HOST of reasons. The whipping is part of it and the double entendre I find offensive.
I miss DANGER "How far'd I go?" Silly but great delivery on his line.
And the segment coming up is why RD should only be an hour.
Another nugget from Jimmy Spencer, Vickers and Kyle starting side by side. Vickers 14th and Kyle 15th BV is outside row 7 and Kyle is inside row 8.

Sophia re: the opening
For some reason, SPEED moved the Bristol track to Colonial Williamsburg. I'm Canadian, and even I know the difference between Bristol TN and Willamsbug VA. Ijits.
--KarenB
ESPN did a show with just the analysts, maybe SPEED could do a show with just Hermie and Wendy one time?
Just sayin...
Man, I have not been to Williamsburg in a very long time.
Apologies for briefly wandering off-topic - Those who suffered through the NNS race last night may be interested to know that Danny O'Quinn quit the 01 team following the race (from a JD press release via Jayski).
Wonder if this will get a mention if the RD boys do a brief recap of last night's race.
JD, the last time I was in Williamsburg, was over 50yrs ago.
I loved the piece with Junior Johnson. He is the "Real Deal."
When you guys are done with RaceDay, there is a new post up for the ESPN coverage of the Sprint Cup Series race from BMS.
Last night the rumor was that Vickers and Kyle were going to be in the same pickup truck riding around the track during the prerace.
Hope they get that on TV.
"ESPN did a show with just the analysts, maybe SPEED could do a show with just Hermie and Wendy one time?"
Oh please, make it be so! Enough with the racing version of talking heads. I remember and long for the days when Chris Economaki could tell me more in 5 minutes than I learn in 2 hours from Wallace/Spencer/Roberts. And if that group inserts any more words of wisdom learned at the feet of Dale Sr., I may blow a headpipe!

@ JD, who sets up which drivers ride in the trucks. They have a wicked sense of humor.
@ JD
Well, you should time your next visit to Williamsburg to coincide with the Bristol night race, since that's apparently they're in the same place.
Either that, or Bristol has been caught in the M. Night Shyamalan movie The Village, where the heroine leaves the village only to come out of the woods and encounter the car of tomorrow. Oooooo, scary!
--KarenB
KB, not too sure what the deal is with those obtuse RaceDay openings, but I think it is the time of the season where we need a real informative start to keep the fans for the program.
First five minutes or so of this show have become theater, not TV.
Dot -
I believe they ride in the trucks based on qualifying order, with the pole winner riding solo. That would explain why Vickers (14th) and Kyle (15th) could be in the same truck, even though they're not starting side by side.
Honestly, I'm just guessing...
@ Dot
The drivers are positioned in the trucks according to their qualifying position. Vickers and Kryle qualified 14th and 15th. They're not on the same starting row, but the pole-sitter gets a truck all to himself. No conspiracy here, just a delicious coincidence, proving once again the universe has a sense of humour.
--KarenB
JD, was it necessary to remind us what we're in for?
I wonder if ESPN will put a pit reporter in the Vickers/Kyle truck.
Dave in OKC, I have the heard the same explanation so good guess.
@ Dave & KarenB, Thanks. That makes sense.
Have you noticed that when two drivers have issues, they start and/or race near each other?
Gotta love them racing gods.
Dave, if there is a God it will be Jamie Little!
Glen, we all have a role in life! hehe..
JD - That would play very nicely into ESPN's script. :-)
Nice to know I'm not the only one who said 'What the heck...' during the RD opening.
The COT is coming, the COT is coming!!!
I know some of you don't like the progressive commercials, but i must say, I like the corny humor in them.
Why is everyone STILL making a big deal over the Brian/SDDD Michigan ordeal? I've moved on, it wasn't a big thing for me.
@ hotaru - Vickers made some comments yesterday to fan the flames. Said Kyle was "out of strikes," or something to that effect.
well, I think we can guess what the theme of the script will be tonight for ESPN. If you aren't sure, go to ESPN.com and see who is on the front page....hotaru's favorite story shrub and the vickster!
Wow, DO'Q quit the 01 team?!
Thats huge. Wonder why he did that. Maybe someone gave him a call?
ESPN won't have anything but a blurb next week. Much bigger story than they will give it credit too.
DAVE in OKC
Hilarious commment about the commercials. Now I have SPEED muted at PRN on radio.
Made dark chocolate brownies with coffee added and a bunch of comments to read through! :)
Gonna be a chocolate kind of night if I am going to post here.
and a lite beer to start things off so my cap button does not get stuck for an entire post. :0
I still don't see why they have to drag it out. It's become their 'monster of the week', to call it that.
Looks like another PRN broadcast for me, if that's ESPN's 'script'.
=( Bristol 1999.
@ Haus14
I don't find the Progressive commercials terribly offensive, though my husband growls (and not in a good way) every time they come on.
I find the commercial where that chick shoves her breasts into Danica's face, or the ED commercials, or the grow-your-man-bits commercials much more offensive. And I'm quite the opposite of a prude. I just think there's a time and a place for that sort of thing.
--KarenB
Sophia- You (and the sight of the UPS Ford) make me want chocolate myself! Too bad I don't have any more choc Pop-Tarts!
Missed the fantasy picks, who has who?
SPEED TV Fantasy Picks
Kenny - Mark Martin
Wendy - Kasey Kahne
Johnny - Greg Biffle
Jimmy - Clint Bowyer
Hermie - Jeff Gordon
Thanks Dave.
Bummed about O'Quinn still.
David - No word yet on the particulars about DOQ. Johnny Davis said "This is quite a shock to me."
Thanks for stopping by, we will try this again on the next Sprint Cup weekend.
