Possible Names For Jeremy Mayfield Reality TV Show?

Let's face it. Recent developments in the world of NASCAR's highest-profile drug policy offender have made it clear that the media is once again about to get a big taste of Jeremy Mayfield.

Never wavering from his story of mistaken lab results, Mayfield has made a move right out of a Hollywood script. Click here to read Jenna Fryer's story for the Associated Press. Mayfield has a brand new mouthpiece.

This time, instead of the wild-haired local Charlotte, NC attorney Bill Diehl, Mayfield has his eye on a very big prize. Pulled right out of the celebrity arena is Mark Geragos, who is pictured above.

While the Geragos focus will be squarely on NASCAR's drug testing policies, his reputation as a celebrity lawyer will certainly be put to the test. The Mayfield disaster has played out over the last months in front of an increasingly agitated NASCAR fan base.

It has been a saga where every move has a counter-move and there now seems to be no winners. NASCAR has been offering official statements about Mayfield from a cast of characters right out of a bad Burt Reynolds movie.

Through it all, Mayfield has been doing the one thing that media veterans know is going to come around again like bad meatloaf. Mayfield has talked about it publicly and is making a point to remind fans. There is always a video camera rolling when Mayfield is in action. He is recording everything.

Talking to ESPN's Marty Smith on top of a hospitality trailer in the infield...recorded.

Talking to local Charlotte TV stations from the driver's seat of his SUV...recorded.

Answering the door when the NASCAR drug police came to his house demanding a urine sample...recorded.

Mayfield has now sold his race team and says he is having a hard time making ends meet because NASCAR has denied him a right to make a living racing. Mayfield has thrown NASCAR, the Aegis testing lab, and the entire multi-million dollar NASCAR drug testing program under the bus time and time again.

You have to feel that the end result of all of this just has to be one thing. Mayfield's own reality TV series. From Housewives to fisherman to the Octomom, reality TV dominates our media world right now. SPEED promotes towing trucks in Chicago and the History Channel promotes people driving trucks in very cold places.

While we wait for the next chapter in the Mayfield saga to play-out, the other big problem he has is that so many titles have already been used for reality shows that feature drugs, alcohol, family issues and money problems.

Simpsons, Osbournes, Hogans and other families have come before the Mayfields exposing the dark side of reality TV. NASCAR is very clear on the fact that twice now Mayfield has tested positive for methamphetamine. Mayfield is very clear on the fact he has never used the drug and it is all one big mistake. We have conflict.

Throw in the drunken stepmom who might or might not have killed Mayfield's father. Add Mayfield's wife who has already starred in an earlier NASCAR reality TV show. Finally, include the celebrity lawyer who has represented clients like the late Michael Jackson, Chris Brown and Winona Ryder.

There is little doubt that Mayfield will be shopping for a reality TV deal to put money in his pocket. In TV land, even projects in the development stage have a name.

Since we have so many smart and imaginative NASCAR fans out there, let's ask for your opinion. What should Mayfield's possible new reality TV series be called?

While it may seem easy at first, it is not. The title has to be short and sweet but to the point. It has to reference Mayfield, but not necessarily NASCAR. Creativity is great, but non-racing fans have to understand it as well.

With the exception of Michael Jackson, and that one's still debated outside courtrooms, his clients tend to be on the guilty side.

@ Anon 1:19, I was going to say the same thing.

He was the atty for a guy in So Cal who was on trial for throwing/pushing his 4 yr daughter off a cliff to get out of paying child support. That trial ended with a hung jury. The second trial is going on and guess what? Mark is not his atty.

My picks for JMs reality show.

Well, look at this, from Mr. Geragos's official biography on his law firm website . . .

"He also is currently handling the Civil Contempt matter involving Barry Bonds' personal trainer Greg Anderson Federal Court in the Northern District of California"

So that's his connection to athletes and drug use! It all makes sense now.

What network is going to pick up this series, that what I want to know.

Mark Geragos is a horrible attorney. He never wins. All of his high profile cases have ended up in convictions for his clients or losses for his civil cases. He is only good at one thing: getting his face on cable TV talk shows. Clearly Mayfield's plan is to push Geragos onto talk shows and to try and make this case a big emarrassment for NASCAR so that they will settle. Because when it comes to the courtroom, Geragos brings very little ammo. He is great on the steps of the courtroom, and he is good in front of cameras, but he has no juice in the court. He is a tested loser as an attorney... which I guess makes him a perfect fit for Mayfield.

Geragos did not help Scott Peterson at all.

There are too many coming out to give statements that they saw Methhead Mayfield using.

Lastly lawyers cost money and how is Methhead paying for them? He is not paying the bills he racked up with his racing team. Even if he were to be found not guilty he will not find anyone to sell him any parts for a racecar unless he has cash in hand. His name and credit is MUD!

So, there's no concrete information that there will actually be a reality TV show, right? It's all complete speculation on your part and no actual, real, hard news on this? Just looking for clarification on that.

Why ANY breath (or keystrokes) are being wasted on JM at all, especially at this late date, is a complete mystery to me.

(OK, I have one theory - perhaps the hit counts were a little low on the blog this week?)

kbaskins said...

@ CRZ

We're having fun! Sure, we're easily amused, but whatever.

Doesn't matter if there's a TV show or not. That's not the point. Giggling is.

"How I Meth Your Mother" is still my favourite. There are some real gems in the suggestions. Keep 'em coming!

Instead of the animated series of years ago, how about a real-life version of "Speed Racer" starring Jeremy Mayfield.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Our Brian France story was earlier in the week.

Mayfield is back in the news because he is said to be hiring high profile attorney Mark Geragos.

This makes little sense because Mayfield is without funds, failed two NASCAR drug tests and has lost his most recent court battles.

The story did not even make it clear what exactly he was hiring Mr. Geragos to do.

Through it all, Mayfield has been videotaping every moment. It would seem that footage is destined for some future use.

That is where the topic came from today.

As for hits on this blog, do you see any advertising?

You have to know Mark Geragos. He is the king of going in, talking up a big story about how he will win and "you don't have to pay me one cent until this is over and you are rich". And then he loses the cases, and the big bill comes due. He often takes his own clients to collection because they have not paid... they thought they'd never have to pay because Mark would deliver a big verdict, but he never does. Ever. Name one big case he has won. Can't. He went in and told Jeremey everything he would do and told him he wouldn't owe him a dime until it's all over... but the meter is ticking and someday Geragos will use his legal prowess at what he's best at: bill collection.

Richard in N.C. said...

Some months ago, either right before or the day of the very 1st court decision, it was reported that JM said he had "backing" and was prepared to fight in court until cleared. Except in the quotes of what JM said, I have never seen anything in print about JM's alleged backing.

Anonymous said...

I remember reading about Mark Geragos and the family of the murderer Scott Peterson. He allegedly told them "you don't have to pay me a cent now... once I get your son acquitted and the jury declares him innocent, there will be book deals, movie deals, talk show deals, magazine deals, tons of money - you can pay me then." He talks that up a ton, and then goes and totally botches the case, loses completely, his man goes to jail and the family is left with several MILLION in bills. And what happens then? Geragos sues the murderer's family when they can't pay. He gets a judgment and makes them sell Peterson's house, everything to pay him. He basically came in and now owns everything of Peterson's. I have no sympathy, because the guy is a murderer, but Mayfield better know what is waiting for him. Win or lose the case, Geragos will get his money.
