Rolex 24 Live On SPEED (Part 2 - Finish)
SPEED is ending the Rolex 24 with a long stretch of live coverage this Sunday. The smaller field made for great racing on Saturday. It should be interesting to see if the remaining cars make for a very empty track after teams falling out overnight.
Leigh Diffey, Dorsey Schroeder and Calvin Fish are up in the announce booth. Bob Varsha and David Hobbs are in the infield studio.

Great point by Dorsey. The bus stop on the back stretch has out lived it's usefulness. Time to consider getting rid of it and let them run the full oval coming out of the infield course, like the old days.

Tuned in this morning just in time to see a Porsche go up in flames. Nice. Can't say its been boring, quite a few mech failures and driver errors. I'll be looking to see the end, Ford mfg is looking strong. I see there's Cup guys leading both classes right now, Labonte GT and Allmendinger DP. Yay NASCAR.
I love the University of Miami colors on the 71 TRG Porche GT and that beautiful "U" on the lid. Go CANES! It's all about the U!
Bad break for the 6 and AJ. His stints have been great and the teams had been running so well. Sol much time left, anything can happen.
Great pit lane interviews. These drivers have so much personality. Great sense of humor from them. Especially after so many hours of racing. Refreshing.
Spoke too soon. Word that Jimmie will be getting back in the 99 but they are 9 laps down.

Great broadcast and pit road interviews even walking with Tracy Krohn. This is an exciting race.
You can tell that the announcers are all tired, but they're still more enthusiastic and informative than the ESPN booth. It's very nice to see!
Away for the WE and only catching what I can on TV but able to follow on laptop. Went to bed and the 99 went down 8 laps, finally packed up and went back home 99 blows up. If I didn't know better I would think it was all my fault.
Guess I'll watch the prerace and FF to the parts I missed and watch the end live. Isn't DVR wonderful.
why no on-board cams other than inside shots looking at the driver?

I'm a bit disappointed Speed hasn't show the entire series schedule at some point. I got into this series last year and really enjoy watching them. Unlike ovals, I feel road races must be better on TV than being there; the sight lines must be awful at the track. Oh well, that's why we have the Internet and JD.
I've spent many a night in the infield for the Rolex. You don't sleep much due to the party and the sounds of the race cars and then more party. It was always a fun time with a cool racing excitement feel.Matter of fact the speedway hired me years ago for the race and I was the first ever to bring in a ferris wheel into the track. I see they still have one there to give it a festival touch.
Oops. Either I haven't seen it previously (most likely) or Speed's reading TDP. They just ran the schedule under the ticker, listing one event at a time.
Another Rolex 24 in the books. Good race and great coverage by Speed. Started in the rain, did their best to keep the lenses clear. Announcers always informative, entertaining and enthusiastic. Timely pit road interviews, good technical information from all and really showed the personalities of the drivers and owners in this form of motorsport. A few missed shots here and there but it's 16 hours of a 24 hour race and I say they did one hell of a job. Can't wait for the rest of the Grand-Am season on Speed as well as all of their live race productions. Well done!
Okay, Speed, you've had your annual opportunity to knock off the off-season rust. Poke FOX with a stick and wake them up; it's time to get serious.
I'm a little late, but I was on from 11 or so until the end. Excellent broadcast as usual. Covered the stories without beating it to death, finding some funny interviews, David & Dorsey telling funny stories...my only reservation is the Kelly girl. I just don't think she's that good.
It was nice to see cars out on the track, even if they aren't the cars I'm used to seeing. I enjoyed the race broadcast very much. The team did a great job bringing the race to life and even though I always find the multiple types of cars on the track a bit confusing, I enjoyed it.
Great job, Speed. Someone please go explain to Fox and ESPN that this is how you broadcast a race. I will plan to watch more of this type of racing on Speed. I didn't mute the TV once!
Always so impressive that these guys can make 16 hours worth of broadcast more interesting and go faster than the commentators for NASCAR.
The only quibble I have is on Sat night when they hype how great the racing will be overnight when they're going off the air in less than a minute
Great broadcast, but I wish SPEED would have at least had a crawl between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM so viewers would know how the race was going. I appreciate the economics, but I would have liked to have seen more of the night time racing. Lucked out for once - snowed in all weekend, so I really appreciated racing and good racing.
Sure was a major difference in how SPEED handled the Daytona 24 and how EESPN handled the NFL Pro Bowl. If anyone had any question whether the Pro Bowl was important or not, EESPN made it clear by treating the Pro Bowl like an exhibition - the action on the field was just window dressing for the commentators and sideline reporters.
That was a great race, and it was nice to see a brand new team come out of the gates and beat everyone. I wish that happened in NASCAR more often.
The BusStop Chicane should not and will not be removed because it provides a clean, fast challenge for the drivers and the cars. Who wants to drive one of these sports cars around all but a few hundred feet of a whole oval track without a lot of variation?
