Live Blogging Sprint Cup Series From Charlotte (FOX - 5:30PM)

The final part of a motorsports tripleheader is on FOX. After F-1 on SPEED and IndyCar on ABC, it's time for NASCAR's longest race.

Chris Myers hosts with Jeff Hammond and Darrell Waltrip. Mike Joy calls the race with Larry McReynolds and Waltrip. Krista Voda, Steve Byrnes, Matt Yocum and Dick Berggren are on pit road.

This post will serve to host your comments on the race telecast. To add your TV-related opinion, just click on the comments button below. Thanks for stopping by.

Junebug is in the front but not close enough. That guarantees a green/white/checker or a yellow with five to go.

oldnewenglander said...

Well then . . .

Andy D said...

The #48 clutched it to get the caution for Jr.

Anonymous said...

All right Chad and FOX!

Ben Florance said...

Thank god I was not the only one that heard that

Rainy2228 said...

**BOOM**...and Chad sends off an "F" bomb.....lmao

Jim said...

I guess this is not a "family-friendly" telecast? :)

Sophia said...

major F BOMB by Chad on Tv..stupid to play his feed when JJ blew up..smh (shaking my head)

Daly Planet Editor said...

That is a solid 25K for Chad!

oldnewenglander said...

How's that 7-second delay working out JD?

Andy D said...

#48 owes Junior for getting him the win at Talledega.

KudzuCarl said...

Let's suspend Chad a few races for that. And the Fox guy who went live to the 48 radio.

oldnewenglander said...

This is network television, and it is not yet 10 p.m. in three time zones.

Terry G said...

They should never have had the audio feed on from Chad...too late now.

Anonymous said...

Well, I'm glad I stuck around for the end of this thing just to hear that.

AncientRacer said...

Oh! DEAR! I just out conjured Voldemort! It is called a "fulminatinous" curse.

Ha Ha! Ha Ha! Ha!

Dang I'm good.

GinaV24 said...

and the 48 screws the 24 again. I hope that Chaddie gets fined big time.

Terry G said...

Does Jr have enough gas to finish?

Andy D said...

OK, so now Jr needs to pull the Hildebrand rule. Hit the wall on lap 199 then he's leading at the yellow.

Andy D said...

Of course no caution. Who's leading?

Andy D said...

The National Guard curse

KoHoSo said...

I think I said this earlier today...

Oh.

My.

God.

GinaV24 said...

well, they'll do anything to get Jr a win won't they. Everyone wrecking everywhere and NO caution.

NASCAR you have absolutely NO damn shame.

And the 88 still didn't win! Good

Terry G said...

That's a heartbreaking way to lose...

Charlie said...

Why no caution. Should have been.

Sally said...

Well, Junior gave it a hell of a drive. Can't feel too badly about that one.

Wisconsin Steve said...

So was that part of the conspiracy?

Anonymous said...

NASCAR totally deserves that for not throwing a yellow. What a joke sport. Can't believe I just wasted 5 hours of my life.

oldnewenglander said...

Feel bad for the National Guard

OSBORNK said...

Worst last lap call I ever saw. Horrible.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Well, there ya go! Good story for the media and lots of new attention for Junior.

Andy D said...

That finish would have been sensational if it hadn't been for the green/white/checker.

oldnewenglander said...

Hate to add to this, but how did the #31 sliding through the grass not cause a caution flag?

OSBORNK said...

There was no caution called because Jr. was leading. How many cars did we see cross the finish line?

Anonymous said...

if jj hadn't blown up, it looks like jr would have won since kahne ran out of gas

GinaV24 said...

Wow, color me unimpressed with NASCAR's officiating.

WB said...

DW loves it that NASCAR didn't throw a caution. What a surprise.

Daly Planet Editor said...

NASCAR execs most certainly high-fiving in race control.

KudzuCarl said...

Lots of questions for NASCAR about not throwing the caution there. Especially with JR leading. Here come the wrestling analogies again.

Anonymous said...

And NASCAR wonders why they are accused of trying to get JR wins?

Anonymous said...

think they would be high 5'ing more if jr had won or they like it like this that he came so close knowing the replays that will be shown a lot

Anonymous said...

The combination of not throwing a yellow and for having rules that allow all of the Childress cars to daisy chain to save fuel is just embarrassing for a "sport".

Andy D said...

I personally feel that there would have been a caution if someone other than Junior was in the lead.

And I find it awesome that the National Guard car lost it in turn 4 on the last lap in two consecutive races.

I feel badly for Junior and Hildebrand. They both were crushed just when they thought they were at the top.

Anonymous said...

I'm probably a lot younger than everyone else posting tonight, but I don't think I can recall a crazier day of racing ever.

FOX will never learn, but with Junior in contention like that, it's hard not to get excited.

What a day.

AncientRacer said...

Well that was the run-up incantation.

The "Occlude-Usum"

Benefits Kevin every time. Got to work on that.

Been fun. I'm going Beach ho tomorrow but shall report to the Squad Room on Tuesday for a full debrief.

Thanks, JD.

Nite all!

WB said...

The "Closer" is back!

KudzuCarl said...

Now they have something to match the Indy 500 finish. Five hours ago, I didn't think that that was possible.

Sophia said...

I can't believe Jr didn't win. What a shocker finish for both Indy 500 and the Coke 600 (the latter I only watched 20 laps TOTAL)

The Indy i watched from flag to flag. Better production.

But energy in the Fox booth seemed great after 600 miles..then again, I like those guys. Not watching NASCAR races anymore I do miss Mike Joy And Larry McReynolds.

Andy D said...

I still think the #48 clutched it on purpose.

Jonathan said...

UGHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

talk about the feeling of ecstasy to agaony oh my de ja vooo (however u spell it) all over agian
(martinsville) Jr has the worst luck!!! SO SO Happy to see him up front though last year he would of finished 20 somthin! Harvick is going to be the bad guy 2nd he beat jr on the last lap

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I love Budweiser but this sucks

WHat a finish awsome........... I guess

Rambo M. said...

You know, i'm not one for baseless conspiracy theories, but with crapshoot consistency of yellows like tonight, NASCAR brings all the skepticism on itself.

Anonymous said...

Come on! Whats with all the negativity. For petes sake who cares they didnt throw the yellow, they let the race finish. Junior didnt win so stop the belly aching. My god. Everyone is so negative here.

Anonymous said...

If only NASCAR would be consistent in their cautions because I don't think that wreck at the end deserved the caution. But there were a couple spins earlier tonight like that which did get cautions.

I am of the philosophy that unless there are cars stopped on the track no caution should be thrown on a green white checkered.

GinaV24 said...

NASCAR officials should be kicking themselves in the tuckus rather than giving themselves high 5's for that nonsense at the end.

Tony Stewart was right when he said it was like the WWE on wheels. I can't justify this kind of crappy officiating to my friends.

Jonathan said...

anon not me I feel you though

jerry said...

From Monaco to Indy to Charlotte a great day of racing,

Production wise pretty solid except for ABC, missed to many restarts and the leaders making green flag stops.

oldnewenglander said...

So I guess Harvick and the Childress guys get to experiment with tricks and make testing runs from here to Richmond, I take it?

Odd consequence of the new points structure.

Wisconsin Steve said...

Come on, guys. If NASCAR were really trying to throw it in Earnhardt Jr.'s direction, they would have thrown the caution just after he took the white flag when he was still leading.

They didn't. (Thank goodness, now that would have been hard to explain.)

Anonymous said...

I am speechless by the finish...and some of the comments here. Same people always claiming they are done with NASCAR....and yet you are still belly aching every week.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Check in with the TV police before you leave for a wrap-up comment.

What a day! So close for Jr. and an interesting call to keep the caution flag from coming out late.

Jonathan said...

Gina hate to say it but it happens in all sports!!! i saw many calls that should of been in many games!!! its the last lap Jr is winning not much debri on the track why not let em race???

jerry said...

Nascar made the right call. I got a feeling if they had thrown a yellow the same people would still complain.

Jonathan said...

Nascar did the right thing in my book enough said

KudzuCarl said...

I think that NASCAR did the right thing too, but that's not going to stop the general press from making the wrestling analogies again.

Brett said...

No one hit the wall, no one was stopped on the track, clearly no one was injured. Why throw the yellow and have the risk of a more serious wreck on the next restart? Burton spun and kept going. No harm done.

Dont fault RCR for reading between the lines and allowing teamates to work together. Its legal. Anyone else could have done it.

If you want to get really technical....you're supposed to keep speed with the pace car and Dale Jr. clearly was not when he engine wouldnt start several times.

Rambo M. said...

Jerry:
We already did our complaining about race control being gun shy with yellows at bizzare times; if they had at least stayed consistent in that manner, what would've been the point?

Andy D said...

My negativity results from the fact that from the start of the race I believed that NASCAR would build a contrived finish if it looked like it wasn't going to be close.

They often give me a feeling that they have done something to make the finish better.

Biffle had a good lead and they couldn't take a chance that he would run out of gas. Then when Jr took the lead, well...

NASCAR is inconsistent on yellows. There were several times when I don't think one was called for. They call yellow so they can throw in a few commercials. And also to draw the field together for a good finish.

After Dale pushed Johnson to the finish at Talledega, he was owed.

And I don't think you should be able to push your teammate on the track when they stall or run out of gas either. Don't care whether it's the 2nd lap or the last.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Brett, one aerial replay of that in full would answer the question right away. Just one replay.

Andy D said...

A Shell car....

oooh, burn!

Daly Planet Editor said...

Video of the three RCR cars was pretty stout.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Going to move comments up to the race wrap "TV Police" post.

Thanks again for hanging with us on a very long day of racing!

Have a great Monday holiday.
