Truck Series From Dover (Same Day Delay - SPEED: 8PM)

Apologies for no new blog posts recently, Google hosts this site and had some troubles. All is supposed to be well and we carry on!

The truck race from Dover was run at 4:45PM this afternoon in Dover. SPEED and NASCAR always delay it until tonight. Those folks who want to know the results can certainly check any NASCAR website, Twitter or Facebook. There are no more surprises in our world of information and communication.

The sneak peek above is from our friend producer John Morris who wanted everyone who heard about a hard crash by Ricky Carmichael to know he was OK. That does not look like a fun ride.

Krista Voda starts with The Setup, a show that features pit reporters Ray Dunlap and Hermie Sadler. Rick Allen is in the booth to call the action with Phil Parsons and Michael Waltrip.

Dover is a tough track for this series as lap trucks begin to be a problem very quickly. In the past, a handful of trucks were in a class of their own and made it a race within a race. Many of the competitors were at Dover for experience rather than to race for the win.

SPEED's classic style of truck series production has been solid for years. Sticking to the story of the race, featuring the actual racing on camera and working to keep the excitement going has been something fans have come to know very well.

Just like last year, the truck field is thin. While there are some good stories, there are certainly a lot of folks who are just no there for the right reasons. Allen has been up front in his decision to avoid talking about just how many truck teams are starting and parking but the ticker on the screen ultimately tells the tale.

This race always looks a little weird on TV because it is daytime on the screen and nighttime for most of the East and Central US. That's only one of the issues associated with trying to keep things under wrap these days.

This post will serve to host your comments on the truck series coverage from SPEED. To add your TV-related opinion, just click on the comments button below. This is a fan friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi folks, sorry we were out of action for a bit.

Hope the race looks good on TV.

I would like to chat on here but I don't want to know who won this race before the telecast is over.
I made sure not to know who finished where.

Folks always pop on and try with spoilers. It's all over the Internet! Bad situation all the way around.

Guess I will go and post back after the race.
Hope we have a good, safe race.

Speed is beating a dead horse with all this talk about Kevin/Kyle deal. Let's hope the broadcast isn't all about them!

Daly Planet Editor said...

Vicky, I agree and think it's just embarrassing!

Wow. I'm not sure if the anthem was sung or screamed.

Daly Planet Editor said...

She almost lost a lung on that one!

Missed the start engines...weird.

Already listened to Sirius & was on twitter, so I know who won. Don't care to watch tonite, which is sad...:(

Jeff Gluck had already warned on twitter that the anthem was screetched so I had finger on mute button! Needed it! Glad Ray mentioned David Starr but c'mon Speed stop showing/talking about Kevin & Kyle. I'm already tired of it and the race is just starting!

Good start to the anthems this year, but they have recently faded.

Well, I am enjoying this, albeit delayed; but since no one I heard told me the end I am ok, not only because it is available from a track that cannot run at night, but because as I have maintained for a long time "live is not all." Give the truck the time to edit and I, at home, get a better "racing experience."

OK, guys, beat me up if you want... ;)

Happy Race Evening Planeteers <3

I listened to the radio but love my Sammy bumps so am watching. Gave in to that.

It's a shame everyone posted that they would be doing spoilers yet folks are still complaining to them about spoiling :(.

Yes the anthem was horrible! Didn't realize they didn't play start your engines, but it wasn't anything to write home about :(. Musta been distracted by something shiny when that should have been given.

I would not go "better" just different. Prefer it live of course!

I'm not watching the broadcast, I heard the race on MRN earlier. This series started out so strong in February and gets kicked in the gut each 2 week vacation.

As for MRN, I have to say they are just as bad as the rest of the media with the Harvick/Busch glorifications. But the field recaps were excellent. The announcers stayed focused on the race and avoided going off on tangents. It's always a treat to hear Barney Hall too.

Told they lost signal for over ten min. ISDN line down.

This chat is just SAD! ROFL!

JD

Probably because lot of folks know what happened. I do not. Plus Friday is date night.

Two theories or make up your own, I guess

i don't know either but it looks pretty obvious = with how much he wins he must have something, it can't just be the equipment.

AncientRacer said...

#18 wins and of course I possibly should apologize. Nope. Do not think so ;-D

Yeah, chat's a bit sad. Race was just kinda underwhelming.

Racing itself was good, as always...but between the schedule switch, the Cup dudes, and the palpable feeling that half these teams are flat broke and fighting to be vaguely competitive...I dunno.

Sorta cast a pall over the proceedings and ruined a lot of the fun. Shame, too. Speed does a great job w/coverage.

Note to self: No live blog if tape delayed next season!

Have a good night, NNS tomorrow!

Since this Truck race was taped delayed why couldn't they show us the whole race.
If they go to commercial say at lap 20, when they come back they would still be on lap 20.
It would be an extra treat because it was taped delayed.

AR--what's a date night? Must be something that people with lives have

Thanks for trying JD :( <3

Roland said...

It was dumb that a tape delayed race took 2 hours. They could have edited out the caution laps to save everyone some time. Better yet SHOW IT LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Charlie, that is the ONLY feature of a same-day delay that would justify a delay.

Same-day delay doesn't play well with the internet, does it. The web will not pretend. Are you listening, NASCAR?

This was by far the worst broadcast by any TV partner this season. Why the heck did SPEED show other programming while the race is going on? When the green flag is out is not the time to show Trackside.

Vicky D said...

JD, we are watching the dvr'd race and the broadcast was just terrible. We never seemed to get updates regarding the trucks farther back than 1st or 2nd plus the scoring scroll never had time or laps behind stuff like that. I think MW talked over Rick & Phil they could handle the telecasts from now on by themselves. Very bad and we are disappointed.

BWBarefoot said...

I suspect that the reason for the delayed telecast is language in the contract with NASCAR that prohibits a live telecast before a certain time Monday through Friday unless there was a weather delay (e.g. Monday morning if a Sprint Cup race was to be held on Sunday afternoon). If you have heard otherwise, let me know.

Sorry to hear of your earlier problems and am glad that they are fixed.

I also noticed that the pre-race ceremonies were a few minutes earlier than usual. I was not home and had to depend on my DVR. The lineups were already on screen when the recording started at 5:30 p.m. Pacific time. Maybe it was to make sure post-race wrapped up by 8 p.m.

Really enjoyed my tape of the truck race. Only wish Mikey didn't think it necessary to talk continuosly. He's getting as boring and silly as his brother. We still find it the best Nascar racing. Thanks for another good blog JD.
