Live Blogging Camping World Trucks From Iowa (SPEED - 7:30PM)
While the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series are in New Hampshire, the Camping World trucks are sharing a Saturday bill with the ARCA Series at Iowa Speedway.
Krista Voda will kick off the coverage with the pre-race show at 7:30PM. This field is very slim, with no Cup drivers and only a handful of top teams. It should be interesting to see what stories are selected for the pre-race telecast.
Rick Allen, Phil Parsons and Michael Waltrip will call the race. Hermie Sadler and Ray Dunlap will report from pit road. This is a veteran TV team that should know exactly how to make the best of what they get from the field.
The key for SPEED is not to try and gloss over the reality of the race. These teams get an opportunity to race on Saturday night on national TV in primetime. If a group of them decide to start and park, then SPEED needs to document it. Should some teams normally in the back have a good race, then that needs to be relayed as well.
After a hectic week, series champ Todd Bodine did make it to Iowa driving for a newly-merged and semi-confusing team that features Randy Moss Motorsports and Germain Racing. Todd might be a man with something to prove.
You just never know with the trucks, it could be an outstanding show under the lights or a single-file race of attrition. Let's hope the top guys mix it up even with the thin field and make it good for TV.

2nd half of the TV doubleheader!
Think maybe Speed channel could get it right by saying the Iowa Speedway is in Newton, IA not Des Moines.
And Krista is from Iowa!
I hope that purple coloring comes off easy. :-D
Hi all. Time for the race I've been waiting for. I just went out with my sister and my parents for their 23rd Anniversary.
Let's hope we have a new face in Victory Lane. We could use it.
Adam, I agree. Sometimes these weird stand-alone race turn out to be great. The ARCA guys mixed it up on this track earlier.
Happy Pick 'em Ups Racin' Planeteers :)
Look forward to some new faces like Dakoda tonight :) <3
I have a feeling that we will enjoy this race. Here's hopin'!
Hey JD, Iowa even has a "Local Singing Sensation"!
I like this track, especially for the trucks. Just with NASCAR had maybe "arranged" for five more trucks in the field. Little thin.
Well with Hornaday and Bodine in the back, Dillon in Sauter are the two to beat. Otherwise, this should be an interesting race.
oops...."just wished."
That Car Show on SPEED is looking more and more like a Top Gear and "Man Show" combo.
And I haven't found out what went wrong with Starr's qualifying he had a terrible one today. Also, is anyone sick already of "The Car Show" commercials?????
Krista is so good! Ray and Hermie make good sidekicks.
With all the promos for Race Day, I definitely won't be watching the Kyle Busch coronation.
Marsha - Iowa
Marsha I agree with you, what is the deal with adding up all his wins in the 3 series?
Vicky, the media started it and the fan backlash has been huge.
Here is Jeff Gluck from SBnation on Twitter:
"Tangible anger from tweeps over coverage of KyBu's 100th. Why not find something worthier of being upset over, like Steve Wallace's driving?"
is there a waltrip voodoo doll available. top cash paid.
Jamie,
You go to DWstore.com and it's on the page after the Digger t-shirts!
Even Jeff Gluck doesn't get it about KyBu. I give up!!!
Hello everyone was out earlier but time for some truck racing!
That camera with a pole in front of it does nothing for me
I gave up on Gluck after he published the link to Paige's pictures.
It's time for him to move on.
again...a spin with no contact should result in no caution...regardless of lap
I looked at the racing line-up just before they gave the field the Green flag. Very impressive list of 10 Young Lions. Should be a good race. Love Herme Sadler. Krista looked nice. No comment about Mikey
Told it was 105 degrees on the pit road surface on the temp gun when Krista hosted the pre-race.
She earns her money.
Nice to have racebuddy tonight for the trucks!!!
I wish one of the guys in the booth would mention David Starr.
RaceBuddy has made a huge difference!
Don't get SPEED ch. here...is there a lineup some place? Race Buddy doesn't show much.
Thanks Speed for mentioning and showing David! C'mon let's show him getting in the top 10.
No live online leaderboard for trucks that I can find.
Thanks for checking, John. At least I know I didn't miss something. So, who is leading? Top 5 maybe?
We need to get you on Twitter!
Am on twitter. Following you! ;-)
They never do provide one for the trucks, don't ask me why. I like it.
Awesome! If you check some of the reporters I am following or @NASCAR_Trucks they are giving leaders and info!
Adam, they have the software and budget to provide live scoring to TV, but not to export it over the net.
That is what I was told. Let me tell you, the NASCAR.com guys are besides themselves!
Glad Mikey was looking out the window. Red flag probably for wall repair.
Brutal hit. Needs to be a soft wall
Max Papis spun him at full speed on the frontstretch? We got to get better replays of that one.
Hearing red flag at Iowa.
We still have no idea why Mikey Kile hit the wall earlier.
Yea, they are 0 for 2 on big incidents.
That was pretty painful of a hit, not surprised they are sending him to a local hospital.
What a hard lick Justin had :( going to the hospital for further evaluation
According to Michael Waltrip, no matter where you hit at Iowa, you'll hit a safer barrier (earlier commentary). A Waltrip being incorrect, imagine that.
While its a red flag, is it just by some luck that the two veterans, Hornaday and Bodine are having some sour seasons? Hornaday has been competitive some weeks, but sour the rest. Bodine has been pretty well bad.
Is it just luck or a sign for the future?
Just kind of think the money is tight.
Im gonna use the red flag to go off on a tangent for a bit. I used to not be able to stand Rick Allen. He was CONSTANTLY YELLING AT EVEN THE SMALLEST THINGS. Remind you of anyone? Anyway Ive noticed a change the past few years. He has calmed down, perhaps due to experience. When he started obviously he had no racing pxp experience. He called every race like it was a barnburner. He has definitely got better over time. I used to cringe at the thought of him replacing Mike Joy one day when Mike retires, but now Im very supportive of the move. I think it'll be a few years before that happens tho. Just thinking out loud.
Wrecks aren't caused by money. Hornaday and Bodine have wrecked in several races, including last week, and Hornaday has already had a sour start to this race, because of the belt then spinning.
Rick and I go around and around. I tell him to just call the race and stop trying to control the content.
He thinks that not saying start and parkers or talking about "negative" things is part of his job.
Now, he seems to be trying to creat excitement when there is none instead of just looking for the best racing on the track regardless of position.
He certainly is an interesting guy for someone who came totally from outside of racing to a big TV position.
Why isnt there any safer barrier there????? I dont get it I promise you that will change before the next race at Iowa
Every race track should have safer barriers inside and out!
Not too sure that wall is in place for all the races. Wish TV had done a better job or explaining the situation.
SPEED is way off their game tonight.
I have to say this is awsome for me... im not watching this in HD and the digtal feed is in sync with the racebuddy! They had Austin Dillons spotter on tv and it was perect I heard what his lips were saying.
I have it on Austins in car on Race Buddy so you hear all the radio chatter
Well is there a broadcaster that doesnt praise nascar? I know the start and park thing is huge to some people but I personally dont need to know that they pulled off. To me there not in the race. In fact they should take them off the ticker so it wont take as long to cycle through
Bad pit stop for Austin! He lost a lot of spots on pit road
Roland, if 31 trucks start a race and ten pull off before the first pit stop, it's pretty much something that should be reported on TV.
I like Ricky, I think hes good for the sport. I also think he has enough talent to be running Nationwide full time. But, he does tear up a lot of trucks. I mean a LOT of trucks.
He reminds me of Max Papis. Great guy and good driver, just does not quite "get it" in NASCAr.
@JD well yeah, but this isnt a new thing and they dont add anything to the show. I dont think there were very many S&P's tonight. 26 of the 32 trucks are still running. Only 2 I think are S&P. This is why I like shorter fields.
Speaking of things totally unrelated to racing, al la the pending release from jail, I am watching JayCee Lee Dugard's interview on ABC. Diane Sawyer does a good job and ALL of the women in this story, except the wife of Jaycee's kidnapper, should make us proud to be American.
Back to racing...Can Austin Dillon pull this one out?
15 Laps to go.
Roland, its only fair that TV viewers at home get told what is happening at the track. Just sayin...
RvN,
I have a ton of news friends up in Orlando tonight. They are saying it is a freak show.
And the freaks are Nancy Grace and her foolish followers. Geeesh!
@JD Ok ill give you that one. Its a lot like the showing the field at the finish line debate.
Could be witnessing history, dont know if Brothers have ever won 2 races on the same day at the same track. They may have great equipment, but the boys can drive too!
Mikey wont shut up. Kinda going all Kyle Petty on us right now. Rambling away. BTW im like 5 minutes behind everybody so sorry if my comments seem a little after the fact
No first time winner, but a well deserved one.
this booth trio is my favorite. not too much. not too little.
Oh, and your media friends who are hyping the situation to get sponsor dollars. Reprehensible. They are all HLN employees now, even if they say three other letters when they sign off.
Great call by Rick Allen down the stretch of the race. Brought the excitement, paused to allow quick comments by Parsons and Waltrip, then went on with his call. Very good!!
Great battle for the win. Decent coverage overall. See ya tomorow
The guys rallied for sure. Following the best racing on the track regardless of position is the key to these telecasts.
That was a great race all the way till the down! I like Max wish he could do better in Nascar! I remember seeing him make the show in the Sprint Cup a few times and he was crying he was so happy! All and all a solid broadcast from Speed... Racebuddy was great an may help with my "Solid" comment about the race! And for once I agree M Waltrip Stinks in the booth he needs to go
Have a great one. See you all for Cup racing tomorrow afternoon!
