Live Blogging Camping World Trucks From Pocono (9AM - SPEED)

Update: Truck Series race will be live on SPEED at 9AM weather permitting. Here is the resumtion of the original live blog.

The rain is threatening at Pocono while the Camping World Trucks are trying to get their race in at this track with no lights.

Krista Voda starts the pre-race show with Ray Dunlap and Hermie Sadler as the reporters. Rick Allen, Phil Parsons and Michael Waltrip will call the race.

Kevin Harvick is on the pole. Hopefully, the trucks will put on a good show. This track is just not the kind that is meant for truck racing. It's too big, too fast and results in little real racing. A series designed for short-tracks is one again racing out of its element.

Rain would be tough for this series as Sunday is not an option for making up the race since the track has no lights and the Cup race will run until at least 4PM ET. Hopefully, the trucks can keep it green and get the race in as scheduled.

This post will serve to host your comments on the truck series race from Pocono on SPEED. To add your TV-related opinion, just click on the comments button below. Thanks for stopping by.

Let's hope it stays dry!

Thank you Pocono for doing something right for a change. 125 miles, 50 laps is perfect. Race should barely take an hour to run. Thats a nice refreshing change!

Probably going to get rained out though. They could run this race Sunday since it is so short, but I doubt they could run Arca on Sunday too, so maybe a Monday doubleheader.

Espn is doing a great job in qualifying. But Carl on the broadcast was a bit much for me. I am glad they got better qualifying graphics now, you can actually see the car!

50 lap sprint with rain on the way.

Whenever there is a race at Pocono there is a chance of rain more often than not.

Ticker has to go. Ok for news shows but this is a live event.

Anonymous said...

That's Lauren Briant singing the anthem, not Byrant as Speed has it.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Hey guys. Back to my home track :)

And as typical with my track, RAIN.

Daly Planet Editor said...

What ticker?

Roadgeek Adam said...

Hopes for this race:

We finish 25 laps.

At the end of 25 laps: Truck regular in 1st.

Anonymous said...

The new Speed ticker on the bottom. They took it down now so its all good. They had it going during the pre race and opening ceremonies

Daly Planet Editor said...

Ah, got ya. Big push for more motossports info during weekends. That is where SPEED Center came from and more ticker stuff is coming.

Weird how that network changes into SpikeTV on weeknights.

JD--all those shows look dumb :(

Daly Planet Editor said...

Nice save!

Daly Planet Editor said...

I have been going at it with the folks from that Dumb driving show.

Same guy who produced "The Swan" and "Hell's Kitchen." Entertainment guys (like the ones from PINKS) who are taking sports money for TV series.

They think it's all funny. I asked who got hurt and how bad. They did not know or care. Hey, that says it all.

saltsburgtrojanfan said...

Hey if those producers don't know or care who got hurt and how bad, they should be fired ON THE SPOT.

that's a shame :(

Rain rain go away come again another day all these boyz just want to play

Daly Planet Editor said...

SBTF,

They bought the footage from third parties, edited it together and sold it to SPEED for a profit.

They could care less.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Well now, that's a way to keep the cup drivers down. Now if we can make it to 25 with a non-Cup driver in front and rain start at that moment, :)

Hi all, I bet even with the rain, the cooler weather is a welcome sight for these teams. It has been SO hot for the last two months at most all the tracks.
At Nashville two weeks ago, I saw 135 degrees on a digital thermometer on pit road. We just about melted during qualifying.
Was hoping they could get this race in today.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Well, this could be one massive drying effort!

Roadgeek Adam said...

It's been rather cool most of this week here in Jersey, and considering Pocono is raining, I expect to be hit with the same system.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Reporters from the track say 4PM at the earliest for getting the track dry!

We will leave comments open and update when we get close to race time.

What a day!

saltsburgtrojanfan said...

Do you know of any toher track that has been red flagged for rain more often than Pocono?

Daly Planet Editor said...

Only Daytona in July!

Roland said : "Race should barely take an hour to run"

Oops, I spoke too soon.

JD, with the closing of Nashville Superspeedway, it made me wonder about something. With Speed and any other networks covering these tracks, do they leave cables or other equipment to televise a race, to make it easier for their return the next time or is all wires and equipment removed each and every time?
It takes tons of cables to attach all that stuff.

Roadgeek Adam said...

I'm looking at the radars for the next 6 hours, I'd give up now on getting the last 33 laps in now. Even the radar for 7 PM doesn't look convincing.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Steve,

Most tracks are not pre-cabled. That is for venues with regular telecasts like baseball, basketball and hockey.

Usually, the conduits and openings for the cables along with power sources are left, but not the equipment for the TV crew.

As you know, TV truck providers have their own equipment and take it with them from place to place.

ESPN, SPEED, FOX and TNT all use different TV vendors and equipment for the various races.

Roadgeek Adam said...

And they are going to taped programming........so I guess I can go do research.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Take two hours and have some fun. See you back around 4PM ET.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Well. 4 PM came and went. It's still raining, as the radar figured. Its not going to let up for hours. Tomorrow might be in Jeopardy.

JD - does NASCAR have the ability to overrule its own rulebook? I care to believe with high chances for showers tomorrow that the Cup race may not occur either.

Daly Planet Editor said...

NASCAR still waiting it out. Talk about finishing trucks after Cup on Sunday. No lights at Pocono.

glenc1 said...

JD, I've been wondering if you might have a column about Speed's recent new line of programs....ugh.

Every time I see that ad for 'Dumbest' my mind can't help but go to the local teenage girl who was riding ATVs with her boyfriend...she was clotheslined by a chain across a road and decapitated in front of him. Thank goodness there were no cameras....

Roland said...

9am Truck race tomorow followed by ARCA followed by Cup. Cup race still starts at 1. Gonna be tight to fit all that in but oh well. Whos ready for 700+ miles of thrilling Pocono action in 1 day!

Anonymous said...

they need to call it before the nationwide race starts. It would be unfair to have the two races on TV at the same time.

Anonymous said...

Will be interesting....looks like they're tying to get them in before Cup but seeing 80% chance of rain until 7 which if it does & stops by then, it'll be right on the 9 am start window. *However*there's another 50% chance until 7 pm *sigh*

Seems as if you write and criticize cousin carl, and sign anonymous, your comments will not be posted. Should be used to it by now; how soon we forget: Brad, Kenseth, Harvick, Junior, Carl has risen!!!!!!!!!!

Daly Planet Editor said...

That's because you are on the wrong post. Your comments are on the Nationwide Series page.

Roadgeek Adam said...

Good morning. Track skies are dry for now. There is another system over Puxsatawney.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Here we go again! Trucks part 2 the sequel.

Breakfast at Pocono.

Bill said...

To paraphrase Steve Martin: "And I believe you should go to church every Sunday...unless there's a race on."

Daly Planet Editor said...

Still a little foggy. Remember the trucks do have RaceBuddy today as always at NASCAR.com!

Bill said...

That cameraman on the cherry picker above long pond straight must get nervous when the storms come..

Daly Planet Editor said...

They yank the high cams down first at outdoor events. NASCAR, golf, etc...

Bill said...

Where's Raceday going to be held if the ARCA race is on?

Roadgeek Adam said...

You know its amazing Ryan Sieg is holding his own despite being unsponsored and on different fuel strategies.

Vicky D said...

I guess we're getting to see MM come through the field instead of showing ALL the trucks.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Bill, that is going to be a good question. The SPEED stage is outside the track, so I guess Wendy and Hermie will stay in the bus lot and garage.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Looks like RaceBuddy left the building. All I get it PitCommand (pay service) sign-in this AM.

Bill said...

And, don't the ARCA boys use Hoosier tires? Cup drivers get all bent out of shape if they have to race right after an ARCA race.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Yep, how many times have we heard that from the big guys?

Bill said...

So will interesting if Johnny and Kyle have to talk over the din of the ARCA race!

DML said...

I think the speed stage is inside the track here.

Bill said...

50% chance of heavy rain today at the track. Think we'll be racin' on Monday...

Vicky D said...

Poor David, hope he finishes ok.

Vicky D said...

Speed is showing and mentioning all of 66 misfortunes this weekend!

Daly Planet Editor said...

Should have put that yellow flag in his pocket.

Bill said...

Are you saying that Bodine's slide wasn't a cautionable offense?

Daly Planet Editor said...

Not in the ARCA world! Hit nothing and did not leave debris.

Bill said...

Good ol' NASCAR trying to increase the drama. Ol' Harve's truck was just too strong.

OSBORNK said...

The best truck won the race but the manufactured drama is not necessary. It is what it is.

Daly Planet Editor said...

See you guys at noon for the Cup series coverage.

Anonymous said...

Is RD that important to SPEED to only have one interview - Guess so

jerry said...

Caution for Bodine was necessary, he had several flat tires. Can you imagine the field storming down on him in a corner?
