Live Blogging Truck Series From Vegas (SPEED - 3PM ET)
Here we go with an afternoon delight from Las Vegas. The trucks are splitting the weekend with the Indy Cars. Ron Hornaday is the story.
Same SPEED story of coverage tactics is in place. Ray Dunlap is covering pit road with Krista Voda once she finished the pre-race show. Rick Allen will be in the TV booth with Phil Parsons.
The trucks are going to be interesting because none of the Cup drivers are in the field. Pay attention to some of the names at the back of the starting grid.
This post will serve to host your comments on the Camping World Truck in Las Vegas. To add your opinion on the coverage, just click the comments button below. Thanks for stopping by.

Stop watching that college football. Racing is on!
"Watching" Better Half Dash on Twitter. Sounds like chaos!
Women drivers!
"Dumbest Stuff on Wheels"....why?
I like your blog post for this race JD.
Simple and to the point, just like how they do this telecast.
My ears.....
twitter seems broken.
LOVED Dean Martin but daughter does not have same set of pipes...or maybe their tuning needs tweaked. Wanted to love her! :-/
dvring race.
I always liked Dean ... but come
on folks the girl can not sing a
note... but it is ok this time.
Graci graci
We'll have a real Race Buddy with this race.
Can we get a few more gambling references in?
From Twitter status:
"Users may be experiencing issues with tweet delivery; our engineers are currently investigating this issue."
Nice time for Twitter to bite the dust!
TweetDeck working with some delay.
Awww. Our troll mascot is back with his same limited vocabulary and topics.
Alright time for a saturday double header! Race buddy for both races always a big plus!
JD I feel you on the dumbest stuff on wheels comment! WHY???!!!
Speed is turning its back on Nascar now a days and reminding me of MTV... The music videos are Nascar (less and less of em) and the programs like Jackass and Real world are like dumbest stuff on wheels and so on
Speed needs to remember if it wasnt for Nascar speed wouldnt be what it is today!
That boy needs a girlfriend in a big way. Here we go.
I did not have MW on the talent list for this race. Kind of surprised he is not in Charlotte today.
Rich boy in the wall!
Damn that sucks for Austin!!!
That had nothing to do with a flat tire.
That's probably the only really dumb thing I've seen Dillon do. Bummer.
After rushing home from northern New Jersey in a beeline to make the telecast, I see the points leader wreck. That can make a major shift.
I hope that guy's mommy gets home soon.
Yeah Austin is a lucky kid but he has shown me that he has what it takes in Nascar! Heck he even impressed me with his first Sprint Cup start last week in Kansas.
Worst Announcer I recommend going to Nascar.com and the race buddy app if you put on the in car 1 or 2 and blast your speakers... its nice :)
Didn't Dillon finish 3 laps down in his first Cup race??
But he finished. stayed out of trouble all day, came back without a scratch. Not bad for a kid in his first race.
Not too sure that Max Papis is getting this NASCAR stuff.
yes but he was impressive in a car that wasnt up to par with most.. Was on the lead lead a good chunk of the race ... TV dosent tell us much but he stayed out of trouble and finished the race
That one wasn't really his fault either. Gresham wrecked him
This caution is going unusually long.
I hate it when they run a bunch of commercials, then come back for 30 seconds, and then go back to commercials.
Chris id rather em get em out the way now than during green flag racing...
I wondeer if there will be more or less fans in he stands for the Indy race tomorrow?
Wow. This race is getting ridiculous! Do the Cup interlopers keep these guys from getting squirrely?
Ouch. Painful wreck.
Between Carmichael and Lefler no wonder Turner is downsizing.
At this rate, Austin may end up on the lead lap in no time...and have a top 10 finish!
Sally, the rodeo clown has been comping the heck out of tickets for Tommorows race, if it's empty, he predicted 70k.
There's something I don't get. Ryan Sieg spun out there. I like move to get him in the field, albeit he went backwards fast. I don't get why anyone other than myself sees potential in him. He's worked hard to get some good finishes, the equipment he's in is far from the best.
jerry, I will be surprised if he comes back.
188K for the last race is awful. He said 70K for tomorrow's race.
Not gonna happen.
I haven't been able to watch much of the race so far, but the broadcast seems fine so far.
"Rich boy in the wall!"
I love this place.
OK, did he really say, "When the yhave to deal with diversity'?
Did he say "they have to deal with diversity"?
That was awesome, the diversity program at work.
I guess he's been hanging around Kurt Busch. He makes lots of 'Malapropisms'. Can be unintentionally very amusing. That one was a dilly.
If Indy wants any success its needs to stop trying to be F1! I never followed Tony Stewart but I remember them saying when he won the Indy championship it was all on ovals! F1 isnt popular in America and the way Indy is going it isnt looking good either
Just my thoughts but unless they go back to all ovals and bring in some American drivers that people know of it is going to remain the way it is. Its only going downhill from here with less ovals, no Danica, and god awful coverage on Verus!
See "adversity" and "diversity" are both from the "sity" family of words.
Seems like Austin aught to have gotten al least 3 laps back by now!
Norm Benning 13th? Wow
Guess you just gotta watch the 'sity' boys, don't you?
I hope Speed decides to show the whole Better Half Dash. It sounds like it was pretty entertaining. I guess the longer this race takes, the less chance there is of that though.
My plan was to flip back and forth between this race and the Tennessee LSU game. But this race has been so good I stuck with it till the red flag. Speed has had some techincal problems so far with audio, not surprised happens all the time. At least a Cup driver wont win today.
Brent Raymer was in the Top 10 a little while ago too...
Chris, Wendy V slaps the wall hard!
They really have to change the camera view going into turn 1. I see theres a camera platform in front of the light poles but I guess they would rather use the obstructed view.
I guess Jen was 9th the last restart
Man, this is like an ARCA race!
Yeah Jennifer Jo was 9th at the restart. Norm Benning 13th. All this wrecking, and the truck (Benning's specifically) has not been its abnormally off.
"Wendy V slaps the wall hard!"
Saw that, but she came back to finish top 5!
Yes it would be cool to see Jenny Jo and Norm have great runs today.
Ray Dunlap gets good info. He knows how to work the pits.
And more shifting. Johnny, Ron and Timothy have work to do.
Good Grief! What is with these guys today?!
Are they driving over their heads because they have a chance to win one without the Cuppers being there?
Unfortunately a lot of wrecks but that's what you expect in a developmental series. Not near as bad as late 80's nationwide races on super speedways.
hey John the cowboy has lowered his estimate from 70 to 40k.
Norm Benning is 17th by the way.
Ryan Sieg 12th. BJ McLeod 19th.
Sieg Racing is going to get some money today.
Sally, when trucks break loose like this there is something going on that the TV boys are not talking about.
These big heavy things just don't spin for no reason.
RGAdam...the way thingshave been oing, I wouldn't count on anything yet! There's still lots of chances to wreck!
You have to remember they haven't raced during the day at Vegas in years. So racing on a hot slick track there is difficult since their set up notes are for night racing.
I can't remember the last time we've seen this much wrecking in the trucks other than a GWC.
Why isn't there a leaderboard on nascar.com for truck races?
They say on Tv that they usually race this track at night and since this is during the day it is a lot slicker.
You would think they would have prepared for the day race.
What happened to Nelson Piquet? He was running up front earlier.
Chris, the truck series does not have the computer/Internet interface in the field.
Told they will have it for next season.
Caution #7 on the day.
He's running 13th (Piquet)
We're definitely getting a show. Wrecking or not, we're definitely getting a show. However, I'd like to see someone other than Sauter or Hornaday in VL.
It's strange that the announcers almost never mention sponsors, but every time they mention Cole Whitt, they say "the Fuel Doctor number 60." Do they have stock in the company or something?
I've heard Champion #2 for Hornaday several times today. Hornaday's sponsors in general seem to get a lot of mentions.
Really not into this broadcast today, don't know why.
Chris, SPEED has no such issues but the Cup guys do for every telecast.
Sometimes drivers or PR guys will ask the TV guys to help out with sponsor mentions if they are trying to keep or renew a deal.
Do you notice when they talk about a driver they do not zoom in on just that truck.
Just thinking that Charlie! Have a feeling tonight on ABC is going to be kind of rough.
Really wish we had more than 19 trucks within 5 laps of the leader.
Classic MW. "a tire track out of whack."
Shoot we'll be watching a commercial marathon and get a few breaks of racing. Not to mention the race will be going up against some big CFB games tonight.
Buescher, who is 32 laps down, tagged for too fast exiting pit road.
I think they should still have on the graphics how many laps have been completed.
When the announcer says they pitted on lap such and such you have to then know how many laps make up the race and then subtract that from the laps to go.
Would love to see a caution or Hornaday is going to run with the show.
Just got home from Mass, and turn on the Trucks and see position 20 is 14 laps down, and the rest of the field is gone.....was there a Talledega like crash?
(Nothing on NASCAR dot com recapping race so far like they do for Cup.)
I agree about the lap numbers, Charlie.
Speed has broadcast this race like ESPN would. They came here with a script, a script centered around Hornaday, and Hornaday has followed the script. Speed is getting exactly what they wont, Hornaday is going to get what he wants in another 30 laps, and the fans got a good race for the first half.
Roland, good observation. Something was bugging me about this one.
Finally 9th caution of the day.
Michael, there was numerous wrecking (hint 9th caution). Austin Dillon wrecked on Lap 2 (currently 20th). The worst wreck of the day was Carmichael, Paludo and Ickler wrecking on Lap 30.
RaceDay is next and then Cup on ABC at 7PM.
What on earth was Cale Gale thinking?
Seen lots of tweets about tv folks at the track this weekend. What's going on?
Man, two knuckleheads in that one. You don't see that at the local track on Saturday night.
I don't feel the wrecking is over.
Hornaday love fest. :(
Jerry, ESPN has brought a ton of personalities like Michelle Beadle to the race.
They had to find a way for these folks to get a clue to racing.
ESPN is in this for three more seasons and there is ZERO knowledge of NASCAR in Bristol.
15 Laps to go.
The corrected 10th Caution.
This is like amateur hour now.
These guys and girls were strong at Kentucky and proved they could put on a great show without Cuppers. Today has been embarassing. At least the points are tighter up front.
This pathetic race reminds me of that old saying....'be careful of what you ask for because you just might get it.' It's common to hear complaints on this blog about the Cup drivers infiltrating the Truck and Nationwide races. What we saw here today was a ton of rookie mistakes. They bring back memories of the races I threw away by doing stupid things. This has got to be the worst race I've ever seen in the toip three series in Nascar. Mikey and Rick Allen were equally as bad.
Wow you know it's been a long day when NASCAR wont even throw a caution on a spin.
You would think that would have been a caution when they throw a caution for no nothing debris.
amateur hour? sure, but you're watching and talking about it ...like those Saturday night runs at the local track, an old vet is at the top
The need this to finish quick to get the Cup race going on time.
Only thing worse than a cupper sticking up the show is a has been.
It bugs me that we would not be in this situation if NASCAR did something before Benson, Skinner, Crawford, Cook, Sprague, etc were forced out of the series. Now we have rent a rides like Feese making a fool out of the series.
No post race ?
WOW just left the truck race with no interviews VL or anything!!
Going to take me a little while to digest that one.
Anon, stay tuned. SPEED only has one hour to do RaceDay until the ABC race starts.
They will include the truck interviews in the show.
So the cup is more important then an interview with the winner of the truck race.
That was really awful. First time in years I remember no live post race. Do we really need more pre race tv? If you add up NASCAR Now, RaceDay 1 and 2, Espn countdown the pre race will be longer than the race.
Charlie, not even close! Truck is still AAA Baseball to NASCAR TV.
I am switching to college football and be back when the green is about to be thrown. I am not one to watch this stuff on speed for an hour just to see an interview.
SPEED ...shame, shame ...why treat your
most entertaining series this way ...you should learn from the screw-ups at BSPN, not imitate them
What a lousy way to treat fans who
have watched the truck race!
Guess Speed thinks someone is going to watch all the commercials
on Raceday.
Just the winner? With the points all shaken up? ESPN deserves a standing ovation for their telecast compared to this.
Truck Race ,,,, theeeeeee worst
ever ... and that is saying
something.
Mikey was pathetic and uh they
are were.
When my nephew says ...
" why do they talk all the time "
u khow how hideous how horrid it
was. No surprise tho...brutal.
Always harder to get a caution in the last few laps of a race. Things that would be an instant call at the beginning of the race get ignored at the end.
