Live Blogging The CWTS Race From Milwaukee On SPEED

Rain delayed the Friday night Camping World Truck Series race until Saturday afternoon at 1:30PM. SPEED tells us that the Sprint Cup Series Happy Hour coverage will air after the trucks at 4PM ET.

Michael Waltrip is joining the broadcast team of Rick Allen and Phil Parsons for the call of the race. Ray Dunlap and Adam Alexander will handle the pit road coverage.

The trucks need to put on a good show this week for TV viewers. The series has some Nationwide cross-overs this week, but no Kyle Busch in the line-up. This should open up some opportunities for new drivers to run for the win.

We will be keeping an eye on the start and park teams, who have been ignored by the SPEED broadcast crew up to this point. The issue is not a secret, but Milwaukee may see less of this practice with the Nationwide drivers in the field.

SPEED offers a straight forward approach to these telecasts that features the racing and nothing else. There is no infield pit center, no cutaway car and no Digger. Allen and Parsons know the series inside-out and Waltrip has proven to be a complement to them when he is on his game.

This one mile flat-track should return the trucks to the roots of the series where beating-and-banging gained the drivers their tough reputations. One good TV race with competitive teams battling for the front would be just what the doctor ordered.

This post will host your comments on the SPEED telecast of the CWTS race from Milwaukee. To add your TV-related opinion, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to stop by The Daly Planet.

Jason Leffler is in the field subbing for Gabi DiCarlo who is not feeling well.

That is a great shot in the arm for the race as this track is right up Leffler's alley.

Thank you JD for having an up to date Television Schedule. Neither Speedtv.com or Nascar.com have updated their schedule.

Michael Waltrip is not heading for Sonoma after the truck race. Says he is going back to Carolina after his SPEED duties.

Dot said...

Marcos going to the back. Blowed up. Wah!!!

Sorry to go OT JD.

Dot said...

The oldest track? Wow.

What beautiful pictures!

What a beautiful blue sky for this race today!

Daly Planet Editor said...

this is a big show for SPEED.

You would think there would be more of a crowd on such a nice day there, plus it would have been a good Father's Day present getting tickets to the race.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Thanks again to SPEED for emailing the amended schedule for today.

Charlie, looks like a lot of them are still cleaning up. Lots of pics on the web about the weather and flooding.

Glad no NASCAR folks got hurt.

Dot said...

@ Charlie, I agree. The stands look very light today.

@ JD, didn't think of that. Maybe roads and driveways are blocked.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Kind of weird to have the Daytona and the Milwaukee tunnels flooded in the same season.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Fun racing coverage, would be nice to have a RaceBuddy type thing for this race. Battle-cam would be cool right now.

Dot said...

Lotta trucks out already.

Vicky D said...

It looks like 5 trucks parked already.

Dot said...

A needed caution, 10+ seconds back to 5th.

Dot said...

I thought the trucks were going DFR. If any series needs it.....

Daly Planet Editor said...

Think we will see that trickling downhill very soon.

Vicky D said...

Missed the restart.

Dot said...

@ JD, DFR needs to trickle down real soon. The drivers losing all those spots is ridiculous.

Charlie said...

It is working out good for the new sponsor Copart.

Vicky D said...

What does DFR stand for?

Dot said...

@ VickyD, double file restart.

Vicky D said...

Dot - thanks I should have remembered that.

Dot said...

@ VickyD, you're welcome. JD's going to have to put up a glossary :).

Dot said...

Wasn't McCumbee the LD? Showing him a lap down.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Rick is trying to keep the excitement going, but he is having a tough time.

They are really going to have to go back in the field and continue telling the stories.

Anyone hear why Leffler parked?

Daly Planet Editor said...

Hey, a US Fidelis ad....no comment!!

Vicky D said...

And that other one - "toasty" is going to get on my nerves shortly too, JD.

Dot said...

Is it Todd that has only 1 set of tires left? The second half of the race should be exciting if the other teams only have 1 set also.

@ VickyD, I'd rather hear "toasty" instead of seeing the comml. Big ick factor. Right up there with BK.

Vicky D said...

I wish we would hear from the pitroad reporters to find out how many tires each teams have left.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Got to give it to Mikey. He has been a supportive member of the TV team and not an over the top ad man.

Vicky D said...

Dot - I like that Prius commercial too.

Dot said...

I'll say it again. This pit stop rule sucks.

Norm Benning still running, 8 laps down.

Oh boy, 9 trucks on the lead lap.

Those Prius ads blow my mind. We've been rewinding and watching them over and over.

Charlie said...

You can google Prius and there is a site that shows how they made these commercials.

Vicky D said...

Thanks Charlie.

@Dot--if he has a smart pitting strategy he can get back up front. My Patrick needs to get up front too! I told Patrick if he wins he'll have to do something kewl in VL :)

@JD--this entire season has been weird! Almost every week at least one series has been affected by rain. I hope Mother Nature gets it out of her system and we can enjoy the rest of the season rain free.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Love to see Setzer get the win today for the sake of his career.

Dot said...

I'm just glad a regular has a chance to win today.

@ Gymmie, thanks for your words of encouragement. Patrick said that if he won, he'd do something cool. Didn't bring any shorts (as in under), lol.

Vicky D said...

Hornaday sure has a strong truck today. Glad they are showing most of the other trucks too.

Anonymous said...

@Dot--yw :) I love Marcos too and I'd love to see him get a win (well I have a long list of guys I'd love to see win too)

Charlie said...

Should be a good finish.

Daly Planet Editor said...

That Gilliland mistake was amazing. Ruined his only good car.

Dot said...

@ JD, wasn't it though? Turning on the gauges is no excuse with a car right in front of you. Would've been cited if happened on the streets.

Daly Planet Editor said...

wonder who is directing this? looks a lot like the ESPN stuff.

Dot said...

@ JD, I was going to type the same thing. Missed Braun while watching from the roof cam. Good grief.

Daly Planet Editor said...

wow, really messing up the last couple of laps.

Anonymous said...

YAY Grampa!

Vicky D said...

and the tv shots were jumping there on those final laps - Happy Birthday to Ron and congrats.

Dot said...

I couldn't see who was where. There's a sever weather warning covering the ticker for Lincoln NV. I don't even know where that is. Far from LV though.

Good race at the end. Good for Ron and Copart. KHI too.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Well, time for double-file restarts and new pit stop rules to save the series.

Thanks all, see you later for the Nationwide Series race.

Coverage wasn't bad. Mikey was good this race. If he acted like this all the time it would be great.
Did leffler have an issue? They at least showed it parked just didnt hear the reason.
S&P.. when they showed the starting line up I figured there would be 11 of them. I was wrong which is great. Many of the low dollar teams toughed it out until the end. It was nice to see people at least giving it a go. This was an improvement over the past few weeks.
