Happy Independence Day NASCAR Fans!

Nothing says freedom like Uncle Sam. Click on the picture to see it full-size.

OK, we are opening this post for your comments on Rutledge Wood as Uncle Sam. You can see him on NASCAR Smarts and RaceDay today on SPEED. He certainly does know how to make a splash on TV.

Meanwhile on ESPN, Paul Page announces the Nathan's Famous hot dog eating contest . . . yes, that is the former lead announcer of the Indianapolis 500

Is it just me or was it weird that John Roberts on NASCAR Smarts did not even acknowledge that Rut was in full Uncle Sam costume?

Watching Nascar "in a hurry" on SPEED.
Wouldn't one expect DW and Byrnes to know their NASCAR history from the 1980's??
DW and Byrnes said "most of the races were not on TV"
huh? Between ESPN,TNN and CBS, they were ALL on tv, you dolts!!

@ JD, no, it's just not you. What's with all the blindness on NASCAR TV lately?

Watching N In A Hurry. OK, someone needs to start fining anyone who keeps saying SOS.

I heard JR refer to him as Sam several times. It's probably funnier for him NOT to really acknowledge it as anything too unusual.

Sonic,

I muted the audio after the first segment. Could not take it.

It's going to take a while to get my eyes re-adjusted after looking at that pic.

I must say, Rutledge does look kind of neat.

They had fun at the costume shop :)

Anytime Rutledge is on the screen, it's time to start channel surfing with the split screen. He brings nothing to the show and as a matter of fact, is quite aggravating. Why does the show need a village idiot, again?

I love raceday and all the cast and think they all play well off each other. Perhaps it is too new school for you but as a relatively new fan ( 3 years) I am digging what so many of you old school guys are dumping as the new face of Nascar. Raceday plays right into what I feel is emblematic of that new face. Don't take yourself too seriously. And I LOVE all the gossip outside of the racing. I don't think I'm alone in that. I am BUMMED NASCAR wives was axed before it even hit the airwaves...
