Live Blogging Nationwide Series From Gateway (7PM ET on ESPN2)
It's been a long, hot day in the Greater St. Louis area. The heat is on and the afternoon Camping World Truck Series race is over. Now, the Nationwide Series gets on the track to complete the day with qualifying and the race.
ESPN will show qualifying at 4:30PM, the pre-race at 7PM and the race coverage at 8PM. Dave Burns will lead the announce team of Rusty Wallace and Ricky Craven. On pit road will be Dr. Jerry Punch, Shannon Spake and Mike Massaro.
While there might not be a Kyle Busch this weekend, there are still some Sprint Cup Series cross-over drivers that will challenge the field. Nationwide driver Brad Coleman will be the ESPN in-race reporter.
The action is fast at Gateway and much of it takes place on the wide backstretch. Tight shots are impossible as the flat track does not offer a lot of grip and slipping and sliding is often the order of the day. The pit road is narrow with a wall on the outside and the race out of this area may indeed provide most of the passing.
Burns said that the opportunity for him to call a NASCAR race on ESPN was something he really wanted to try. Well, there is no bigger stage than national TV.
This post will host your comments about the telecast from Gateway on ESPN2. To add your comments, just click on the comments button below. This is a family friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thanks for taking the time to stop by.

Dave Burns has been a great announcer for quite a while and certainly deserves his shot in the booth. I am sure he will bring a refreshing edge to the broadcasts and keep the motormouth Wallace and Craven in check. Burns is a pro announcer and that is what is needed rather than some old time drivers that have axes to grind on the air.
I really need Race Buddy as I cancelled cable for internet TV (Hulu, Netflick) and will miss the race tonight. Bummer!
Freely talking about start and parks during the qualifying show on ESPN2.
Doubleheader time!
Dave Burns did an OK job on Q's with Rusty & Ricky with his natural gift of gab ......My only gripe in the past has been that Dave tried to impress e'body with his limited set-up & mechanical knowledge (which often fell short,so much so that CC's would trick him into misleading info at times,as a jest) I haven't noticed it nearly as much recently & he does a better job nowadays .... He is already better in the booth than Adam Alexander ....He's a nice guy , I wish him the best .....
EXCELLENT feature on Justin Allgaier! Please, can we see more of these involving the NNS regulars?
@Anon 5:55 - I noticed the mentions of the S&P teams during qualifying, instead of the regular "he has a fast car, he was fast in practice"...
The announcers may have a hard time keeping track of the S&P teams tonight. Counting Morgan Shepherd's deal which can't be predicted just yet, I came up with 13 teams that will most likely S&P tonight.
09, 21, 26, 27, 36, 37, 43, 49, 56, 89, 90, 91 and 92.
Let's hope this isn't what the series is going to look like if they make new rules to keep the Cup drivers away.
13? Holy cow...
I like Mike Massaro on pitroad and the booth seems to be doing a super pre-race show.
Yeah, if you watched the qualifying show, Rusty kept saying which cars only made one lap runs in practice.
Not the script Nascar wanted.
i dont think 27 is S&P and maybe Johnny Sauter is not a start and park, but the others except the 09 are a lock imo.
Do you know if ESPN's top motorsports crew is here in St. Louis or with Marty and the Indycars this weekend?
@Ryan - Just saw the interview with Kelly Bires, so the #27 is probably just a maybe.
#36 Sauter is most likely a S&P.
#09 Cassill could be a maybe, but I'm leaning toward S&P.
MV, the #21 & #27 will race tonight. Still a load of bull to see McDowell & Clements go home, when they could be racing. Instead we get the #90 & #91 pulling their usual garbage.
Anthem is decent, but what's with the guitar?
Anthem singer is a little flat!
Dismal crowd - gotta think Gateway may not support two races this year - OR NEXT.
Nationwide sweepstakes codeword is BLEEDERVALVE?... Is that what cost Travis Kvapil 150 points at Pocono?
MV, there are many different types of bleedervalves lol
Great pre-race. Love Craven in the booth!
@Buschseries61 - If you're right, that still puts us at 11 S&P tonight.
I think Rusty Wallace looks a little off-balance with Craven.
Two drivers in the booth is not usually the best deal.
Rusty in the booth and all three Wallaces have in-car cams tonight. This must be St. Louis.
Hey guys . . . . Andy Petree was a tire changer, even did it some while owning the cup team.
bobpockrass: For those wondering, Gateway track bleachers seat approximately 54,000.
Remote will get a workout with the Legends Million live on SPEED.
And the estimated crowd is ??
Lucky if they have 20,000
2 laps to 1st S&P. 49-M.Green. Sad.
This pair of drivers in the booth is interesting because they had very different levels of success in their driving careers.
@Patrick - 9 cars went straight to the tail of the field prior to the green flag, all of them included in my S&P prediction.
3 laps for 2nd S&P (92-Setzer)
4 laps 36-Sauter
6 laps 89-Chapman
Craven > Rusty IMO
Rusty comes from the same mold as DW. He is too hyper and a little over the top. He also has a conflict with his two race teams competing.
Also - how did he get off with a mere handslap and apology for his on air comment last week?
And BTW, 2 drivers has worked in the booth before. Parsons and Ned Jarrett being a perfect example
MV, any of the non-qualifiers want to race?
David . . . I know you didn't start the string, but Kyle and Wally both drivers too.
The Legends Race is great - car spins, faces the wrong way and no caution is thrown. Great stuff !
Has Burns mentioned the S&P cars?
@Patrick - Lawson probably would have parked, but Cope, Clements and McDowell would have likely all run the distance.
Don't think so JD
Truck car? C'mon Spake either focus on what you're doing or find something else to do.. UGH!
Anon at 8:26 - plus legends car goes around on wet pavement too.
Does Gateway have two Nationwide races this year? Never have before.
@RyanMcGeeESPN: Whoa...apparently there's a car show in the @GatewayRaceway garage tonight. Holy start & parks!
Couple of tracks on the sched for 2010 went bye-bye.
David Ragan qualified for the Legends Million - I bet those guys will be gunning for him. Imagine that - a Sprint Cup driver doing a friggin Legends race !
@Anon 8:29 - Yes, Nationwide is going back to Gateway on October 23 and it's the first time they'll go twice in a season.
I can't see this track supporting two stand alone events. May go bye bye like Memphis track did. Nice unique track but from a pure business standpoint it doesn't look good.
Glad Dave mentioned the S&P's too.
From what I understand, Ragan came from the Legends series, has been doing the TV commercials for the event and was encouraged by the promoter to participate.
Nothing like driving against 12 yr. olds in something you did waaaay back when.
So if Ragan wins it - Bruton has "a deal" with him?
Is Childress bankrolling Morgan Shepherd in the #21 ?
Rusty just talked over Craven. Anyone got the muzzle?
Rusty Wallace seems to have a memorized little snippet that he repeats about all drivers every single time they are featured. I guess he gets away with it because he has different combos of partners everytime in the booth. He's also the most annoyingly, flagrant shill, (Ok, well besides Michael Waltrip), for sponsors on TV.
Anon @ 838 - The deal with Shepherd originally: Shepherd would run his own car with a #21 in the races the #21 had no sponsorship. This would keep RCR in the top 30 in owner points. NASCAR shot this down and basically said Shepherd simply couldn't run the number on his car and get the points. The car had to be from RCR.
FOX refuses to listen to the concensus of the fans about DW and put him out to pasture.
Doubt they will listen to us and take any action about Rusty.
So, is Jerry Punch truly personal friends with Brad Keselowski, or is he just trying to appear more in the know through his unprofessional nickname games he's pulling with him and other drivers?
Speaking of sponsors, what's the point of putting an in-car camera in car when they're going to put up a wall of sponsors in front of it to the extent that you can see the action in front.. Shameless.
35 should get 'Kaboom!' as a sponsor
After that exploding brake there ought to be debris all over the track right now!
@Patrick - Those bursts of flame looked kinda cool, if there wasn't any debris to bring out that caution, there is now!
anon 8:32-- @DNewtonespn @graygaulding on racing @david_ragan in Legend million: "u know how much publicity I'd get if I took him out?"
Mr. Newt had a picture of him in his tweet cute kid :)
Craven made a strong point about brakes in the pre-race show that is already being borne out. He made a similar point about aggressive driving before the Nashville broadcast in April.
This guy is just plain smart, hence his value as an analyst.
Rusty goes back to the Infield Pit Studio after this race for the duration of the season.
It's going to be Marty Reid, Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree down the stretch this season for both Cup and NNS on ESPN.
Brewer has explained this how many times?
JD - Is ESPN bringing Evernham and Brewer the next 17 Cup races? Two people for 1 job.
Evernham may appear in the infield, while Brewer will continue in the Tech Garage.
Missed that green flag
Told there was a big accident in the Bandolero race and a guy/kid went to the hospital.
No clue if this is the one playing back right now on SPEED.
Ryan Mackintosh was transported to the hospital Jim Utter is tweeting.
Dave Burns is doing a pretty decent job tonight.
BTW JD, it was good seeing Ryan Burr guest hosting Nascar Now this past week.
He was the only good thing about the fiasco that was NN's first season.
Yea, I was giving Ryan some grief because ESPN had him on the LeBron pre-show!
Ryan really turned into a NASCAR fan, he still reads this blog too!
Super guy.
jim_utter: Former #NASCAR Daytona 500 winner geoff bodine gets promoter's choice as the 34th and final spot in Legends Million finale.
Good Lord, that guy is like a cockroach!
Rusty goes back to the Infield Pit Studio after this race for the duration of the season.
It's going to be Marty Reid, Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree down the stretch this season for both Cup and NNS on ESPN.
Looks like I'll be able to watch all the races for the remainder of the year and only miss the pre-race stuff. Yeah!
That's a fact.
No doubt about it.
My personal opinion is that they are grooming Ricky Craven to take over for Wallace. When is anyone's guess...
worst ESPN brodcast ive ever heard. Just has no flow to it, cant wait for Marty Reid/Jarrett and Petree to be back in the booth next weekend.
Yeah, another former cup driver racing against legends drivers. Hmmmm.
Next week at ORP would be a great time.
Anon at 9:09 - I concur!
Burns has been better than I expected. I was dreading listening to him until I got to hear some his PXP. He's been good. But as everyone else has said, Rusty has to go..
I can't wait to see the ratings of this race vs. the Legends on Speed.
I always look forward to ORP!
Would love to see Dave Burns working with Jarrett/Petrie.
Definitely doing a better job than Vince Welch.
Also appreciate the paired-down prerace show with Mike Massaro.
Any word who will call next week's ORP Nationwide race?
Here we are with race just about half over and we have fade because of a bad storm outside. Maybe it'll pass quickly.
i like this trio in the booth. i think dave and ricky have had a positive affect on rusty. this is the best rusty has been in a while. dave needs to stop tripping over his words other than that pretty good. and ricky is unreal. this guy needs to be in the booth every week. ricky is delivering big time
Burns is doing great and Ricky VS Rusty, I'll take Ricky every time.
Geoff Bodine = cockroach amen to that
This Legends gig is GREAT !
Once again, if ESPN doesn't think the race is important enough to send their top team to cover the race (even though they only have to work 36 to 38 weeks a year - heaven forbid), there is no reason for me to invest myself in the race emotionally, since it is obviously not important.
I honestly don't understand why ESPN shuffles their talent so much - they get no sense of continuity or anything with the Nationwide series and it makes it more of a joke when NASCAR's "partner" could care less about the series.
Disgusting.
Anon,
It's not disgusting, it's logistics.
ESPN's TV package is different than the other TV partners.
They do all the NNS race and the final 17 Cup races.
All the on-air talent do contracts in advance for a select number of races. This is the B team because it is a B team weekend.
It has been this was since 2007. What ESPN is doing with Burns and Welch is trying to find a third person who can work in the booth other than Reid or Bestwick.
I personally hope ESPN develops a NNS team that is different from the Cup guys. That series needs an identity, especially down the stretch.
oops, "this way."
I still hate my laptop!
My personal opinion is that they are grooming Ricky Craven to take over for Wallace. When is anyone's guess...
July 17, 2010 9:06 PM
How about at the next commercial break :)
There is a conference call with the ESPN peeps on Tuesday.
At that time, they will layout the official info for their efforts down the stretch.
I will pass along all the info!
So, will ESPN relate how few driver not in 'chase' contention they will bother to cover?
Good memory Sally! That is the top issue that I am going to ask about.
First they pounded making the Chase into our brains and then they over-did the JJ coverage until we went nuts.
Things have to change of they can expect the same result.
Anyone watching the racing on Speed have no audio?
Nobody's leading?
Hey everyone! Happy saturday night!!! So what does everyone think of Dave Burns???? I dont know if im into him being a pxp guy! Also does anyone know why they keep saying this is St. Louis when there in IL??? I dont get it and I think I asked this last year during the same race but I forget
MikeDavis88 It is confirmed that DaleJr's episode of ABC's "Shaq Vs" will be the season premier on Aug. 3. More details to follow.
That should be interesting!
I have the legends race on the other tv and we have audio via DirecTV
Jonathan,
Madison, Ill. is only 5 miles from the arch. So, it easier to tell the audience where they are in the country. I'll bet most weather sites don't have a Madison, Ill and use St. Louis because it's close enough.
That "Rapid Repley" effect would be perfect for side-by-side commercials.
grrr..."Rapid Replay!"
Aaargh! I hate "driving his brains out" Who says that?
Say it with me: Rusty does!
MikeDavis88 It is confirmed that DaleJr's episode of ABC's "Shaq Vs" will be the season premier on Aug. 3. More details to follow.

Talk about left side weight bias....
'who says that?' was rhetorical. i know who actually says it. too many times (once is too many)
Audio on SPEED works fine on my other tv, problem with my tv then. Volume on every channel except SPEED, very wierd. Thanks for your help Vicky D.
Patrick, don't use those big words around Rusty!
I do like the crew guy cam when they show it in real-time instead of replay.
I apologize. I mean, I'm sorry. I mean, my bad.
Gray Gaulding is going places. He is very polished and gives a better more articulate interview than many Cup drivers.
I don't know why, but I can see Rusty gone for next season (especally in light of his Kyle Busch comment....and I'm no Kyle Busch fan).
JD--*giggles* he can't say BraKes name right and is afraid to say Matt's which is actually easy.
Sorry guys, been flipping channels here to really comment. Burns has done well tonight, Craven and Burns really feels alot like the old Bob Jenkins led booth from the late 90's. Rusty is okay, but Rusty and Ricky being so agreeable has been rather annoying.
What was with the feature of the over the wall guy under green?! at least it wasn't full screen!
They have missed a restart and pretty much the first half of stops just now. Rough for the truck so far today
Gymmie, hubby wonders why it's so difficult for Rusty to pronounce DiBenedetto's last name too.
Great run for Truex in his first race.
And thus the reason Cup operations and sponsors don't like young drivers...
Not saying right or wrong, just sayin'
Ouch!! Not a good night for JGR.
It's gotta make it difficult for someone like Craven to call it as he sees it, if an incident would happen to involve a car owned by the guy standing next to him in the booth.
22,33,60 what more can you expect. Always a Cup driver.
WOW!! Great race thus far. Glad to read how everyone is just loving this race. Out here in California tonight where the weather has cooled and the sun is still shining, racing is always AWESOME!!
I have enjoyed the guys in the booth because it's a refreshing change. We all know that our regular duo of Andy P. and Dale J. are probably on vacation. :)
Cheers!
California gurls love racing!
I am one that didn't care to much for Dave Burns as a pit reporter, he is ok but to have him in the booth and doing the PxP and doing so well was a surprise. He seems relaxed and is handling things better then expected. Good job.
Well I do give Brad Kez a pass this year since this is his first racing cup. And Kevin is in his own cars so that's gives him a thumbs up. Boy, poor Brad Coleman looks terribly pale.
@Vicky--I don't get it either...of course I don't think BraKes name is difficult to pronounce either.
Hope Brad and Matt are OK :( TV made it sound like they were OK but the replay showed something different. Glad Brad's OK hope Matt will be fine! Worried that he's still in there :(
This is going to be a wild restart!
Maybe I ought to not watch this restart I might get too nervous about my favs.
Heavy rain is knocking out the satellite signal here in Va. I have learned that the HD signal is far more sensative to the weather than SD. When HD goes out, you can go to the same station in SD and it will likely still work unless it is a really bad storm.
Burns is working well, I just with he has Ray E. or Andy P. with him and Ricky Craven.
Taking Rusty out would not be a loss. Ray E. would be interesting to try.
Osbornk we had the same issue here in Houston tonight with changing over to SD instead of HD. It seems to have stopped raining now.
Rusty must go. He's not worthy.
Burns is doing a great job!
He should get the big gig over Motor Mouth Marty...
That 3 wide just now was crazy...
burns has done an ok job so far, but those last 5 minutes where he tried to do play by play sucked. what he was saying and what was happening were completely different. Rick Allen-ish
Dave Burns is doing a better job than both Vince Welsh and Adam Alexander.
I think, if this an audition for a possible "B" team for next year, ESPN should consider him for PxP.
I've never been a fan of Crusty in the booth, tonight is a perfect example of why...
These last 5-6 laps..
I love Craven in the booth also..
Andy or Ray would have been much better choices than Crusty...
I don't get why JGR put that #20 car back on the track in as bad a shape as it is, they can't gain any more positions or points.
I bet we see this replay a bunch of times for the next week.
wow...he wrecked him
wow wow wow wow WOOOOW!!!! I cant say anything else
Are you happy NASCAR ? Have at it boys.
I think Carl ought to be suspended for next NW race - he's laughing about it!
Carl admitted it. He wrecked him. That was...wow.
He's gonna need Aflac if he keeps racing like that.
Carl dumped him. After his last take out I found that I can't stand to listen to him. Yet again he dumps and I'm sure it's not his fault. Shame for all the other teams getting wrapped up in Carl's ego. No words out of his mouth will cover the stupidity of what just happened. Seems everyone's opinion of him having a streak are accurate.
If Brad stops driver's door facing traffic, that could have been very bad.
That's twice he tried to kill Brad Kez this year.
Malicious intent -- don't be surprised to see a disqualification or two be called. If it was Mike Joy & Company calling they'd look at the library.
So Carl just admitted that he wrecked Brad...
Mercy..
Mr.K's goona go whip Carls ass...
Yikes...
Im dissapointed at the fact that the NASCAR establishment and talking heads dislike of Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski is basically causing them to lie about the sport.
Call a square a square guys - Edwards wrecked him as clear as day. He's a bully.
Cost Shelby Howard and some other a car in that finale.
Well that was just a disappointing ending. Carl went over the edge in my opinion. He as trying to do what Jeff Gordon did with Matt Kenseth but Matt did not wreck and take out half the field.
Great finish. Brad got into Carl on the next to last lap, no question. Carl got him back on the last turn. That's racing.
How has it taken 6 years to see that Carl Edwards is a bully. Bullying Matt Kensenth. Bullying Brad Keselowski. Bully.
Carl talked about someone being killed at Dega?????? and he does this I think Carl is going to kill someone thats nuts. I like Carl I do but for real? WOW again man man man i dont know what else to say
Bob should beat his ass.
Edwards reasons are bullshit at best. "Not going to take it away". So basically he's entitled to win if he's near the front and will wreck anyone to do it. I seem to have seen Kes leading alot today. Just shows Carl is reinforcing what a pompous punk and I'm surprised anyone wants to sponsor him.
drivers always say you race people like they race you...frankly, I'm not a fan of either, but I don't get how what Carl did is all that different than what Brad has done to others. Pot, kettle, black, and this is what NASCAR wanted.
Quick getaway to drag racing after all that. ESPN still never wants to mess with the schedule no matter what. I liked Dave.. Thought he did a good job.
Can we get Bob Keselowski in the booth? That guy is just awesome!
That was just wrong, and it's going to bite Carl in the ass down the line. Guaranteed. Brads dad was really trying to not just blow up.
On a good note, loved Dave Burns in the booth! Good job!
You've never been allowed to just flat out wreck someone to pass them, even after they nudge you.
And i've gotta agree with what Rusty is saying (which almost never happens) this is NOT "Boys Have At It". This isn't racing, after 30+ years of following racing from short tracks up i've only a couple times seen a win stand after something so obvious. Carl STILL had the lead coming off turn 2, after brad got into him in turn 1 he gave him room to gather it up. I'll start to believe NASCAR is rigged if they DON'T penalize Edwards, wrecking Brad is no way to make for a close championship race. I was really surprised they even let Carl go to victory lane. Before boys have at it that would have been a win for Reed and his career rejuvenated.
Getting really hard to think of Carl as the "Nice Guy" he portrays when he's literally tried to injure brad twice with absolutely no respect or remorse this year. And supposedly after the last time his sponsors came down hard on him (guess that was just for show)
A driver won the race by the current statutes available to all drivers.
Also, when is Dad K. ESPN interview material to spew his rant? Oh, since Dad Logano isn't there to pick on, my bad.
WOW! Guess I missed a race and another creepy Carl E stunt.
Getting out of hand yet Carl won the race!? Will see highlights tonight or tomorrow.
It's time to park Edwards and
let his ego cool down before his
supidity gets someone severly hurt
or killed. NASCAR will probably
do exactly what they did before
with their double-secret probation
and enjoy the publicity.
Edwards wont' be happy until he kills Brad K!!! Nuff said!!!
keselowskiweb: Just to let BK fans know Brad's fine after tonight's race. Walked from the car and is AOK.
I agree with 51 year old racing fan. Sit Carl down that's what they did with Kevin too and he settled down fast. I'd like to hear Jack's comments. He pushed his own teammate around who is next for him.
I cannot believe that NASCAR would let Edwards get away with blatantly taking BraKes out AND admitting it on TV! As a member of the NASCAR Fan Council, you can be certain my thoughts will be awaiting their action on Monday morning. The MUST take points at least and do more than double-secret probation! Next time he is going to kill someone! I don't blame Bob Keselowski for being angry. Edwards HAS tried to kill his son twice and it has to stop!
Good Job ESPN! Brad Keselowski is wrecked by Carl Edwards again and suddenly at 11:00, it's time for drag racing at Sears Point! With SPEED Channel providing no coverage, some NASCAR fans are puzzled that no post race coverage is provided about the crash but a couple of replays, post-race interview with Carl Edwards admitting he wrecked Brad Keselowski, an interview with Bob Keselowski, and Rusty Wallace mentioning how much trouble Carl Edwards is in. It will be exciting to know we get to deal with ESPN for the next 17 weeks of the Sprint Cup Series.
I find it strange that ESPN chose to interview the father instead of BK at the end of the race. His comments were interesting to hear and understandable, but I think it's another case of parents interfering with their kid's racing. Brad isn't 17, this is his 2nd or 3rd year running Nationwide races.
ESPN probably didn't interview BK since they needed to get to drag racing on time. I hope there's an interview on The Speed Report, NASCAR Now, or maybe even SportsCenter (that's a long shot, I know).
Personally, I think NASCAR will probably leave the whole incident alone. They need something like this to generate TV ratings.
Dave Burns had a steller play-by-play review. Some of the best play-by-play commentating I've heard all year came from him on restarts. I think he talked fast and tried to reach non-existent cutoffs, but he's used to that from working pit road for the last 10 years+. He'll get better at that with more experience.
Rusty Wallace was the problem character for me tonight. He would often just simply repeat comments from pit reporters or from Dave or Ricky Craven. I lost count how many times someone yelled "Shut Up Rusty" at the TV.
I was expecting a quiet week of highlights with lots of Indy build-up-but not anymore! Defiantly looking forward to the articles on various places this week.
and what was it Brad tried to do to Carl at 'dega? Hmmmmm...
Just saying. NASCAR hasn't taken away a win or penalized anyone for this sort of thing in a serious way since Harvick back in...whenever it was (2001 or 2?). You tell them to 'have at it' and expect them not to race hard? Wish the TV guys had had more time to discuss..
Look for "have at it" to be reformed somewhat in the off-season. Before you know it this is going to be nothing but like the gang wars. You take me out this race, I'll take you out next race" and then it's going to be nothing but chaos.
Well as far as the broadcast, I thought it was good. I would like to see more coverage of the younger non-cup guys. Also, Dave didn't show much excitement in the beginning but that changed as the race moved on.
As far as the last lap goes, I'm fine with it. Obviously, people can be biased depending on their favorite drivers. But when the checkered flag is waving, whatever goes goes. Obviously it is dangerous but its not like the drivers didn't know what they signed up for. In my opinion, it was fine.
I've been a NASCAR fan for years...and tonite...well that was the absolute worst i have ever seen! Not sure what is going on in Carl's head but this needs to get straightend out...what BK did was goin for the win and drove in a little over his head woulda been a good race to the finish. What Carl did there...and then admitting it?? Just wrong.....so dissappointed...
Speaking of Sears Point . . .
I will never forget that Ricky Rudd spun out Davey Allison at Sears Point in 1991 and lost the win.
For the first time (I think), I am disappointed in Ricky Craven's analysis of a situation. Carl thought he was clear? Seriously? He is too good of a driver to misjudge having his nose clear by 2 FEET! I have no reason to believe that Ricky has a bias one way or another, but comments like that sure leads one to wonder. Sorry Ricky, but that was pathetic.
Darn, I was going to copy what I sent to the Fan Council about Edwards taking out BraKes, but hit send before I could do it. Duh..anyway, I told NASCAR that I believe that they must take action, lots of points, not just 25 or 50 points, and parking him for a Nationwide race or two must be publicly considered. I told them they must take action because at this point, he believes he can do anything on the track and nothing will be done. I am Still so angry at his snotty reaction and his pride at the win. Oh!! Wish I were at the track, I'd punch him in the nose! Or at least slap his face. ;-)
I think in this situation Craven was trying not to assume anything before the truth came out....he certainly didn't defend Carl after the Victory Lane interview...i respect Ricky more than some of the other idiots "Rusty" that are on ESPN's broadcast....although i think the comment about trying the crossover move was a little redundant...we all know the history between these two.
I can't believe what Craven said tonight about Edwards. I think that head injury has moved to his brain cuz he's gotta be brain dead to believe that crap!!
And Rusty Wallace has got to go... He's the most pathetic person ever put into the TV booth!!
Don't quite understand why Brad can drive it in too deep into turn 1 and get into Carl, who is on the outside, and that's OK. But Carl can't drive it off turn 4 and get into Brad going for the win, and that's not OK. WTF.
Both moves were great, that's racing. That's what we're talking about right now. That's what NASCAR needs. It was exciting.
No one got hurt. Come on folks, it's stock car racing at it's finest.
If anyone wasent watching ESPNNEWS, Jerry Punch interviewed Brad. Brad said that Carl is trying to win a championship by wrecking him because he has ran bad all year. He want on to say that Carl will prolly say hes sorry, and how cool he is and how much of a good guy he is. Really a good interview by brad, he gathered himself up good there. I woulda had a few cuss words to say after something like this. Its time for nascar to suspend carl, you cant let a guy get away with attempted manslaugher 2x in a season against the same guy. That wreck was WAY beyond boys have at it. Bob Keselowski, you are the man.
Let me just say that I'm a fan of hard racing and I DON'T want NASCAR to put a chokehold on the drivers and send us back to bland vanilla racing. But this wasn't hard racing. The victory was stolen and it was ugly. If you don't have the skills or the car to win the race clean, you can't just rip it off and not only dangerously take out your competitor but have so little regard for the rest of the field! I'm a fan of Edwards and I hate like heck to call someone out for hard racing but even *I* know this wasn't clean. It was filthy dirty. C'mon Edwards, you can't feel GOOD about this!!!
HEY CARL, LET IT GO. TALLADEGA IS OVER. LET BYGONES BE BYGONES.
If hooking a driver off turn 4 is racing then I guess I never was a fan of racing. Somewhere I thought passing a car was involved.
Brad put a bump and run on Carl (even backed out of it a little to let Carl gather it up). Carl straight dumped Brad which is NOT Racing.
The Legends race was for a quarter million dollars and the pass for the lead was clean.
Not a fan of either driver but must add this:
All three big wrecks between them have been caused by Carl turning into Brad.
ps Other than Rusty I thought the booth did good. (At least until the wheels fell off at the end)
finally decided to start my own blog after this whole incident....thanks go to John here for inspiring me to try my hand at this blog thing....got alot on my mind after tonite and this incident!
I find it interesting that the official NASCAR take (lap-by-lap summary as well as the headline on the main nascar.com site) pretty much says "Edwards wrecks Keselowski" while the AP story, like the one now on ESPN.com, is a Carl Edwards jock-wash.
Dave Burns: Great Job!!
Carl Edwards: Hire a lawyer for when you get charged with attempted murder ... or murder if you keep it up.
Maybe Carl would like to pay for all the damage he caused to smaller less well funded Nationwide teams. Another problem with these Sprint cup guys running all the time. What do they care as they fly home to their mansions on their private jets.
From looking at late race replay a couple of times, looks to me like Brad used a fly-swatter to move Carl so Carl hit Brad with a hammer. I sus pect Carl's next visit to the big trailer will start with something like "I thought we told you........"
Brad Coleman did a fantastic job Saturday night. Considering all the problems the No. 18 Gibbs car was having, blown A/C, bad battery, sputtering engine, etc, and then getting hit by his rookie teammate...he still kept his cool in the post race interview! Classy kid in a microphone. Hope Gibbs puts him in a full ride so we can see more of him. Breath of fresh air!
Get the Cup guys out of Nationwide! Truthfully, they make it boring.
