Live Blogging The Sprint Cup Series On TNT From Chicagoland

The final chapter in the six race story of NASCAR on TNT is about to play out. As you can see from the picture above, what TNT has brought to the past five races has simply been fun.

Marc Fein leads Kyle Petty and Larry McReynolds on the air at 6:30PM with the NASCAR on TNT Live show. Guests on the TNT infield stage will include Jeff Gordon and Carl Edwards. The outstanding Pride of NASCAR feature continues with a profile of Fred Lorenzen. TNT's commitment to spending the time and effort on producing these features has been welcome in the current NASCAR TV environment.

At long last, Ralph Sheheen will present his sneak peek inside the amazing car collection of veteran NASCAR owner Jack Roush. Many fans still do not know the extensive racing history of this man that includes NHRA and sports car racing championships.

The Countdown to Green show is up next, where Fein speaks with the TNT race analysts Wally Dallenbach and Petty. In this program, Marty Snider gets a tour of downtown Chicago from Kurt Busch, who knows the city very well. Also, the final edition of Wally's World airs featuring a review of this wide and fast racetrack.

Once 8PM rolls around, it will be Sheheen teaming up with Petty and Dallenbach to call the race. McReynolds stays in the infield to offer strategy advice. On pit road will be Lindsay Czarniak, Matt Yocum, Adam Alexander and Snider. This group has worked quite well together, including the versatile Czarniak who only appears on the NASCAR circuit for the six TNT events.

Green flag is at 8:15PM and look for NBC's Jimmy Fallon to be a part of the opening festivities. He has been touring the garages and talking on Twitter about the excitement of being at his first NASCAR race.

TNT has been welcomed by fans because of the relaxed style of coverage that has several features. Director Mike Wells keeps the cameras wide and always lets viewers keep a perspective of where a car is on the track. The caution flag pitstops are always followed with a clear view of the cars racing off pit road and a pop-up graphic that lets viewers know who came out where in the order.

Sheheen lets Petty and Dallenbach have the spotlight while the pit reporters offer information without hype or exaggeration. It is a combination of announcers that simply works on the air. This season will be remembered for Sheheen's willingness to step-in and take the play-by-play role when TNT and Bill Weber parted ways during the telecast schedule.

This post will serve to host your comments about the final Sprint Cup Series race on TNT for 2009. To add your TV-related opinion, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting.

WOW! Did not know that about Childress! That stinks for the drivers. Harvick has too much passion to stay in that kinda situation.

Still nothing WORSE than being DISSED by somebody you have had relationship with (i.e. NOT returning Kevin's calls?) NOT GOOD for morale.

The way you fix areo is fix the tires. Make tires that don't last and you put mechanical grip back into the equation.

They had to make the Indy tire softer to get it to rubber in. It might make that race better than normal. Course it will be on ESPN, so that will suck.

red they put power steering fluid in

We got a bumper car race.

Suddenly, it is Saturday night at the local short track. Going to be some good fights in the pits.

Ambrose 13th. My finger are crossed. XXXXX

Sophia said...

Even with the boring race, except for some covering of GF with video NEVER GOOD IDEA, tonight puts ESPN to SHAME.

I still don't forgive BSPN for butchering Daytona.
can't believe we have their dreadful camera work to deal with...and the booth is nice guys...just NOT FUN like this group has been.

Good camera work can do wonders for some of us

The drivers can actually race hard...when they are forced to in double file restarts with less than 20 to go. Why does it take these drivers so long to put on a show?

Dot said...

He's done. Dang it for Mark.

KB got his wish!

in re: young mr busch just now: "it's dead, jim."

Get out the Nanny cam.

Kyle is gonna be cryin' and suckin' his thumb.

MOMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Loose Wheel said...

wow, grenaded it.

Well, thats another one that goes to the scrap heap for JGR if what i heard about what they are doing is correct.

If they get enough damage on a car they dont bother fixing them due to added weight after the repair job.

SallyB said...

Well, the Busch brothers are certainly making the last laps of this race exciting. Or at least a lot closer.

Dot said...

No free pass. Less than 10 to go.

The Loose Wheel said...

free pass applies to very end of race now dot. that was part of the change too.

Just a heads up during this caution:

Bestwick with Boris Said, Ricky Craven and Terry Blount on NASCAR Now at 5PM.

Ralph Sheheen sits in for Steve Byrnes on TWIN at 8PM. Chad Knaus and Michael Waltrip on the show.

Sophia said...

Kyle B really needs to dress up in drag next Halloween and go as the WICKED WITCH from the Wizard of Oz.

I can hear the music already

Jack from PA said...

Ralph ought to be fun to watch on TWIN Monday. Looking forward to it.

cutting the power steering belt on the 29. tired of it jerking around

Dot said...

@ David, really? Young trumps old again.

red said...

@j_fellenbaum: indeed, tires are the next part of the set-up that simply MUST be reviewed by nascar. softer, perhaps, but certainly wider has to be part of that discussion as well?

cutting the power steering belt on the 29. tired of it jerking around

well now. THAT'S a creative solution!

The Loose Wheel said...

better off having no power steering pump then one that is failing or intermittent which is the issue kh is having. comes and goes and the car is jerking around which is why he let everyone go the last 2 restarts.

Anonymous said...

breathing all these fumes.. come on Ralph, call it like it is!

Dot said...

Of course he didn't want to talk. Would have to remove his pacifier.

SallyB said...

What a surprise...Shrb doesn't want to talk to anyone.

J_Fellenbaum said...

totally agree red. You make a very valid point. Part of the reason they are so hard is because the tire is too narrow for this car.

If/when they go to the wider tire, that should help out.

This double file restart thing sure injected some excitement into a rather boring race :)

BTW, can we all agree that no more 1.5 or 2 mile tracks should ever be built or given a date again!

NorCalFan said...

I heard if the 5 and 24 finish 1st and 2nd (or vice versa) there is a $1 million bonus for them. Can't remember who is sponsoring that.

Newracefan said...

Chad thinks Hamlin pushing JJ on the restart is payback for Martinsville. Jimmie those guys must have memories like elephants I can't remember stuff like that. Interesting. I'm thinking Chad or who even has the elephant memory needs to remind him about stuff like that.

red said...

not a fan of young mr busch at all but: after that car slapped the wll the first time around, there was likely quite a bit of CO2 entering that cockpit.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Well, not the last lap we would have liked, but at least there was some excitement that did not involve gas mileage.

Vicky D said...

MA had a great finish!

Dot said...

Marcos 11th. Early BDay present for me tomorrow. I'm one happy old hag.

YAY for Mark. Good job.

red said...

happy birthday, dot: marcos sure came thru for you tonight!

nice to hear all that cheering for old man martin -- and that he's still as excited to get the win as ever.

Jack from PA said...

What are the odds the top 2 are the same from Michigan? LifeLock must be kicking themselves that they now have to give $1 million!

Congrats Mark!

Thank you TNT on 6 great race broadcasts in 2009!

Sophia said...

Race was so boring I FORGOT about race buddy to watch the end...to see if camera angle was better.

Congratulations to Marky Mark and the #5 Funky Bunch!

Thanks guys.

Jack: They generally buy insuranec for these type of things. The rates aren't because of the lomng odds,

For me that lady in the back that represents Sprint is creepy. She may be the nicest lady in the world but she is scary.

Now wouldn't it be nice to see Victory lane after this?

Dot said...

I want to thank TNT also. What a fast 6 weeks. Love you to pieces.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Thanks to everyone for stopping by. There will be a new column up about this race in a short while.

Thanks to Marc Fein and all the TNT team for their help this summer.

Great job on the past six races.

Have a great Sunday everyone.

Thank you to all of the folks at TNT. Great job, we appreciate your attention to detail.

Just work on the sound issues for next year :)

Steve L. said...

Like I said in the beginning, the race started with 20-30 to go. They have to figure out a way for the race to last the entire duration, not just a small portion.

Now, gag a maggot, it's time to go back to DJP. Each year, I'm wishing earlier and earlier that the season would end. Sure hate to see TNT leave!

red said...

tnt, once again, my thanks. tough set of 6 races for your team to have to handle but you have once again done a sensational job and i appreciate your professionalism and hard work! a solid job from everyone involved and we will miss you terribly.

(and anyone know why old man martin took his shoes off in victory lane before he hoisted the trophy? most curious.)

darbar said...

With great sadness, we have to say goodbye to TNT. They did a great job with their 6 races and we can only hope that when they negotiate the new TV contract they give TNT more races.

Jack from PA said...

Hate to see TNT go, especially after broadcasting the best six races of the year (BY FAR). I am not looking forward to ESPN whatsoever.

Let me also say this... Mike Wells is a genius! He shows cars on the TV screen. Who knew?

Thanks to everyone who works at TNT for putting together a great "Summer Series." It was very enjoyable.

NorCalFan said...

46 weeks before another TNT broadcast of a race--right now that seems like an eternity. Thanks, TNT, for all your hard work.

Happy birthday, Dot.

I will take Sheheen, PEtty and Dallenbach over any of the teams who have broadcast or will broadcast this year. This should be TNT's team for years to come.

They are a great team!

Dot said...

Thanks NorCalFan. Off to the casino. Had good luck on the track. Hopefully it extends to machines.
