SPEED gets back to racing this Saturday with coverage of the NCTS race at 2:30PM ET. That is Ron Hornaday standing alongside of his Craftsman Truck pictured above.
Krista Voda will have The Set-Up pre-race show and then the race will follow at 3PM. This will be the first opportunity for fellow NCTS drivers to address the recent story from ESPN about Hornaday and his use of testosterone for health reasons.
Voda is a veteran TV host and she has not been shy about addressing controversial issues in the past where the NCTS is concerned. While the ESPN focus is always on the Sprint Cup Series, look for reaction today from the NCTS garage on this issue.
Rick Allen, Phil Parsons and Michael Waltrip will be the crew calling the action for the race. Down on pit road will be Ray Dunlap and Adam Alexander.
Loudon is flat and tough and that should once agan prove to be a good showcase for the rough style of the NCTS. A good combination of drivers are entered, so the action will be fun to watch.

Too bad my old tv had Kevins' face HALF OFF THE SCREEN along with SPEED logo..their tv guys need to remember most of us have 4.3 tv;s and fix the WIDESCREEN issue and set up accordingly.

I thought both gave the facts, just ESPN has such a broader reach than a NCTS pre-race show on SPEED with maybe 1000 people watching it.

I think maybe Hornaday has a little something to prove today.
What a difference! Coverage throughout the field, great excitement in the coverage of the action on the track, actual discussion about what is going on out on the track not just naming the driver or calling out the truck number seen on the monitor.

I love Mikey but sometimes he gets on my nerves when his voice gets high pitched...he has been FUN today...I loved his comment about the one wreck didn't look "sanitary" until they saw the replay, lol.

I think it should be interesting to see if ESPN addresses the post-race discussion on their later shows.
The network purposefully deleted any reference to the NCTS event this weekend and replaced that space with the NHRA race in Charlotte.

Thank you again to Speed Channel for televising a race and not mirroring ESPN's "coverage" model of following a script.
You would think that if one competent "suit" at ESPN took two seconds to watch a Truck broadcast and compare it to the garbage their network produces that major changes would be made immediately. Unfortunately it's obvious that such a competent suit doesn't exist at ESPN. If Friday was any indication changes have indeed been made... but for the worse as ESPN has added EVEN MORE bells, whistles, and other distractions to their coverage.
I can only envision ESPN's handling of the Truck Race highlights tonight. My guess would be conveniently skipping mentioning a single word about Ron Hornaday's win and showing the post-race fight and only the post-race fight.
Good luck to those of you that are going to eventually tune in to ESPN's TAPE-DELAYED by several hours coverage of anything but Happy Hour whenever it finally reaches the airwaves. I however will not be bothering with ESPN's practice/qualifying JUNK any longer. That train officially left the station for this fan after watching ESPN do the impossible and make their practice coverage even worse on Friday.
The difference is SPEED was about 10 minutes over their alotted timeslot. The other network cut out with over five minutes left in the race timeslot.
Anon, they went 10 minutes past the broadcast window. That is 15 minutes longer than ESPN would have gone.

So, either they delayed the CORR race or cut out the pre-race stuff ...
And it's quite weird to hear the guys that would are on TNT during their 6 week run ... but with CORR, they're on SPEED ...

Nice job, Hornaday. I thought that he looked tired and relieved and humble. He seemed to handle this week with class.
What did the opening of the show say about the Hornaday? I missed the first segment.
I loved how they were going to go to a commercial and then when Michael Annett (#22) wrecked, they just stayed and analized what happened.
Keep up the great work SPEED on your truck broadcasts. Of course, I love Mikey.
An interesting side note is that when I was at Daytona for the Duels this past Feb., my dad and I were just getting to the track when the truck stuff was over and I passed Rick Allen and Phil Parsons as they were heading to the tv compound. Phil is at least 8-10 inches shorter than Rick. I believe that Rick is 6'6" and Phil must be around 5'7" or so. I say that to say that when you see Rick, Phil, and Michael in the booth shots and they all appear the same height, that Phil must be standing on a box or a stool or something.
Nice to see Old Ron put a period on that non story!!!! Hornady and the Harvicks have more class and dignity then all E$PN combined.I've been reading most all of you since the begining of TDP. The Hornady deal just made me want to add my 2 Cents. Thanks JD

The ending we all needed to a tough week, racing wise.
and to have it happen on SPEED where the sport is truly beloved by the guys who work in it and it shows.
I was counting down the last few laps and hoping "Karma" would make an appearance.

When Ron thought the interview was over and bent over and pulled the cap over his face, I thought he was fighting back his emotions..then when the mic was still there for more questions, he did ok.

All I kept thinking while watching was this is how all racing should be telecast. Know some don't care for Mikey, but those 3 guys in the booth today have so much "natural" enthusiasm for the sport. It comes through on the telecast. The same for Fox and this year TNT. Why does it seem that everyone from ESPN is reading off a script. And doing a poor job...rarely any excitement and no insight into anything. Just same old info over and over.
And the screen...race cars and one ticker. Oh...and race cars in front, in the middle, in the back...racing. It's funny, but Speed probably doesn't have the budget for the flash and dash stuff and puts on a great show. ESPN...save money...cut the crap that we don't want to see anyway. Then maybe you won't need ED commercials to fund your production...LOL.
Thank you Speed for giving us race fans something to smile about. Not just trucks, but practice/qual when you have it. And of course F1 where people who aren't even at the race can inject so much excitement and fun into calling the race.
For the first time I will use HotPass as my primary viewing vehicle for the race tomorrow. Too depressing thinking about watching ESPN.
