Live Blogging "NASCAR Now" And "RaceDay" (9AM on ESPN2 and SPEED)

Both NASCAR news shows are going to share an hour of head-to-head competition this morning as NASCAR Now on ESPN2 and RaceDay on SPEED both go live from Daytona at 9AM. That is the ESPN team in the TV truck preparing for today's show. Thanks to then for the picture.

The new start times for the Sprint Cup races and the expanded three hour version of RaceDay put together this situation. It should be interesting.

Allen Bestwick leads the ESPN effort while John Roberts hosts for SPEED. ESPN has Brad Daugherty and Rusty Wallace as analysts while SPEED put Kyle Petty and Kenny Wallace together on the panel.

Ryan McGee, Marty Smith and Nicole Manske are the reporters for ESPN while Wendy Venturini and Hermie Sadler fill that role for SPEED.

NASCAR Now is one hour long while RaceDay is three. ESPN uses suits and ties as a dress code while SPEED is casual in branded network attire. ESPN is warm in the infield studio while the SPEED Stage is outside and cold.

This should be a great study in the same content being offered to NASCAR fans in two very different TV styles. The formal and more structured manner of ESPN and the open and casual style of SPEED.

This post will serve to host your TV-related comments about both these programs. To add your opinion, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting. Thanks for stopping by, make sure and join us for the live blog of the race right here at 11:45AM.

ok, heading to church but . . .

for the first -- and last -- time this new season:
dear rusty wallace,
his name is pronounced "kez-LOW-ski," not "kez-el-OW-ski."

'k? thanks.

I hate when NASCAR RaceDay and NASCAR Now overlap, but RaceDay is the one that wins in my apartment. I like the casual feel of RaceDay better.

I will flip back and forth depending on who's covering what and watch NASCAR Now during commercials, but I still with RaceDay more.

I'm still not sure why RaceDay has to be on for 3 hrs today. It could have been 2 and then we wouldn't have had the overlap issue. Oh well. It's not like I didn't get NASCAR overload yesterday (almost 12 hrs since I watched the Truck race too).

The overlap is because of the three hour RaceDay. Will not be like this every weekend. Thankfully.

Raceday is re-showing segments from this week. Like AB & RE on NN better than RD.

Watched a segment on JJ (ick) just because Martdawg did it. Amazing. Now watching Ryan's piece on Junior Johnson.

Ryan just tweeted that he was freezing! Nice job.

Steve Addington on both shows today. Think he might have a little something to prove?

I've reached the point that I will not watch ESPN's coverage of NASCAR until Danica goes back to IRL.

The Time McGraw piece was cute!

What time is green flag?

Gotta like the cynicism and sarcasm Kenny Wallace uses for NASCAR listening to the fans.

MikeC said...

1:19p.m. for the green flag today.

Kenny has to step it up now that Kyle is in the house.

Kinda like NASCAR Now's new Greg Biffle segment.

BTW, any word on who's on the Monday Roundtable?

Daly Planet Editor said...

Rusty, Ray and Ricky are joining AB on the Monday show.

The most boring man in all of racing next to Matt Kenseth...The Biff, yippee!

PammH said...

I missed the Biff on NN-must have been on RD then. What did he do?

I have to say, Raceday is much more enjoyable with Jimmy all but gone, ESPN did a much beter job with the NW race yesterday, now I hope Fox can step up though I have my doubts, honestly if Fox would axe Meyers and Digger I'd be happy. Is Hotpass running the MRN audio again this year? if so I imagine thats where I'll be tuned.

gotta love kenny wallace bashing paul menard

alex said...

Yes, Kenny bashing Menard is funny, but I don't think he went over the top with it, which is good.

Great piece with Ken Squier about going "back to basics". Makes me miss the great racing of the 1980s. I hope today's race can be a classic.

Vicky D said...

I'm sure KW made the comment about Paul Menard because it took out Chrissy from the race. She even mentioned him in her interview after coming out of the infield care center.

If the racing gets back to basics--shouldn't the TV do the same. JD hisself presided over a lot of that great TV--hopefully those who built and build on his hard work will get the message.

Announcers First Week:
Trucks - The usual insane banter
from Mikey and company. Like they
were in the Living Room talking to
each other. Non Stop. insane
Nationwide - They still ramble
non stop - but at least their voices are somewhat normal
Cup - Fox is the best by far.
At least we get to Crank It up
which allows us to HEAR THE ENGINES - you know - like you were at the track. What a novel Idea.
Since I SUGGESTED IT 6 YEARS
AGO. Yes I did.
How about this: On each of the
restarts -- just leave the microphones wide open! For a few
laps. How could that possibly hurt?
And couldnt the announcers talk
in normal tones? Ah well we do
what we can.
And finally -- think about this :

We all get to hear Marty Reid and
Dale Jarrett all year long week
after week after week after week.
good nite.
