Saturday Doubleheader From ESPN And SPEED
A good Saturday of racing will feature a day-night doubleheader from ESPN and SPEED.
The TV day starts off with final Sprint Cup Series practice from Michigan International Speedway at 12:30PM ET on SPEED. Darrell Waltrip is back this weekend and he is up in the TV booth with Steve Byrnes and Larry McReynolds.
This is one of four summer weekends Waltrip will be working for SPEED. I am hearing his involvement may extend even further.
Krista Voda steps-in at 1:30PM to host The Setup pre-race show for the Camping World Truck Series. On this race, Voda will be switching to pit reporter role since Adam Alexander is a little busy hosting the TNT coverage on Sunday. Voda will be joined by Ray Dunlap on pit road. The regular SPEED TV trio of Rick Allen, Phil Parsons and Michael Waltrip will call the 2PM race.
Next up is qualifying for the Nationwide Series racing at the Kentucky Speedway. This weekend, it will be Marty Reid in the TV booth with Rusty Wallace and Andy Petree alongside. Dale Jarrett has the weekend off. Qualifying airs at 4PM on ESPN.
The NASCAR Countdown pre-race show this weekend is going to be hosted by Allen Bestwick. Wallace and Brad Daugherty will be in the Infield Pit Studio. Tim Brewer will be in the Tech Garage. The pre-race begins on ESPN at 7:30PM.
It will be thirty minutes later when Wallace and company start the race coverage. Joining the team this week from pit road will be Dr. Jerry Punch, Jamie Little, Dave Burns and Vince Welch. Shannon Spake is reporting for NASCAR Now from MIS.
Other motorsports items to note on Saturday include the 8:30AM start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans on SPEED. At 4:30PM, SPEED also has F-1 qualifying from the familiar Montreal street circuit. Le Mans coverage then continues from 6PM to 2AM Sunday morning.
We will be live blogging the CWTS and NNS races, please join us for that. In the meantime, happy to have your comments on any of the above topics. There seems to be a problem. There's an 80 percent chance of thunderstorms for Kentucky on Saturday. What does this mean for Carl Edwards, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, and Paul Menard should the Meijer 300 be held on Sunday (the day of the Heluva Good 400? Thanks!
Anon,
Great question. I have a feeling it would be Sunday night, since the MIS race is back to the 1PM ET start time and Kentucky has lights.
This could be fun to watch!
JD
as much as i hate to miss the trucks race, i'll be at a sports bar, watching us-england world cup match. once every fours years, ya know?
might try to catch n'wide tonight, tho'.
The forecast for the race Sunday is a 40% chance of rain so rain delays could have an impact on running both races. Also, KY has a 50% chance of rain on Sunday night. It might be interesting.
i hope they race the kentucky race on sunday so all the double duty dirvers won't be able to win the championship but i have a feeling like JD said it would be sunday night or monday
To further complicate the Kentucky scheduling situation, there's a 40% chance of rain at MIS tomorrow. This could get very interesting!
Sorry, OSBORN, I missed your post.
Here is the NASCAR Weather from the best forecaster in the business:

Hmmm watching practice...DW, Larry Mac...run out of gas, someone slip something in their drinks or just tell them to take it down a few notches.
I usually enjoy when they get a little goofy or joke with the drivers, but qualifying yesterday & beginning of practice today was pushing my patience on the tolerance meter.
Why don't the newtworks continue to push the waltrips on us more. how many times do i have to tell them, if it has a watrip in the booth i wont watch it. last night was reruns of axmen instead, now i am going fishing at the local pier. i would have much rather watched nascar but they dont get the message. GET RID OF THE WALTRIPS
ok DW Mayo clinic joke on his dog did make me laugh. Sorry DW hatas! :-D
Am I the only person ...
who thinks that the announcers on
the truck series..
NEVER SHUT THE **** UP ? no respect at all for the viewers ..
They cant even shut up on the
restarts !!! What a shame for a
great sport to have morons idiots
at the controls.
I wonder how many viewers actually
watch this disaster unfold weekly ?
100% agree with the post above!!!. The Truck coverage is terrible and borderline unwatchable.
Nice to hear MR back in the booth! We're missing F1 qualifying on Speed. I think it would be very funny if the double duty drivers couldn't race in the NW race if it rains, but Nascar would never allow that to happen and they would make sure that they get both races in for those drivers even if they have to postpone to Monday.
Great online pictures on SPEED from Le Mans - but it appears there might be almost as many media and photo people as crewmen.
Poetic justice 2 Prism cars fail to make Cup field?
What was that " Drivers Start your
engines ? "" Does Nascar care
about anything ? And the selection
of Clothing ? The entire thing
was a disaster Beyond all belief..
Just another bad decision...
attention nascar....it is Gentlemen
start your engines....not Drivers
mama mia.
Think about this ... reed and
company will be doing about 18 races for the Cup Series.
The end of the world as we know it. I hope my info is wrong.I hope
my math is wrong.
