Live Blogging Truck Series From Homestead (7:30PM ET - SPEED)

It's been a mixed year for the Camping World Truck Series. The economy put the whammy on some of the top teams and drivers, changing the line-up of the series and the competition for the championship. The good news is once again the simple and straightforward telecasts on SPEED kept hardcore racing fans coming back for more.

As the series heads into the final race, Todd Bodine has clinched the championship but other stories are perking up for 2011. Jennifer Jo Cobb, pictured above, is headed for a top 20 finish in the series, possibly as high as 17th place. That will make her the highest finishing female in any of the three national touring series in NASCAR history.

Aric Almirola leads a group of well-known drivers who will be coming full time to the NCWTS next season. There is hope on the horizon for this series with the continuing TV package with SPEED and perhaps the best driver line-up in many years. Head over to Jayski.com and click on the truck series link for more information.

Krista Voda will host The Setup pre-race show with Ray Dunlap and Adam Alexander as the reporters. Voda has put her stamp firmly on this series with her Midwestern style meshing perfectly with the overall production. There is a lot of information passed along to viewers in this pre-race format featuring only one voice.

Rick Allen, Michael Waltrip and Phil Parsons will call the race. This TV team is comfortable with each other and reliable on the air. Waltrip's former tendency to drift off into sponsor mentions and politically motivated content has been mostly curtailed. His understanding of his actual role as the third member of this team made a lot of difference on the air.

Allen keeps the excitement high and is the ultimate NASCAR salesman. On the positive side, Allen keeps the focus on the racing and follows in the tradition of strong play-by-play announcers in the sport. On the negative side, Allen himself admits that he chooses what to tell TV viewers in order to paint a positive picture of the sport for fans.

Our fundamental belief is that fans should make those decisions and that the role of TV is to pass along as much of what the fans at the track are seeing and hearing as possible. It that includes start and parkers, trucks pulling off the track or other items that might not paint the sport in a glowing light, it should still be included.

Parsons had a tough summer as he stepped into an unfamiliar role as a pit reporter for TNT and his on-air behavior drew criticism. Comfortable in the TV booth for years, Parsons simply could not bring himself to fill the reporter role and ask the tough questions before, during and after the TNT Sprint Cup Series races.

It should be very interesting to see just how SPEED chooses to present this final race. There is a new management team at SPEED. The rumor is that there will be some new faces in some new places for next season. Look for every member of this on-air team to be intense all night long.

Homestead holds few TV surprises. The night pictures and sound are great, the Florida weather has cooperated and the wide racing surface lets the trucks put on a good show.

Don't forget that NASCAR.com has an online app free called Truck Buddy. Dodge Ram sponsors a couple of extra cameras and two in-truck cams so viewers can have some fun. Hopefully, this streaming project will grow next season to include all the races in the series.

This post will serve to host your comments on the TV coverage of the final Camping World Truck Series race of the season from Homestead, FL. To add your opinion, just click on the comments button below. This is a family-friendly website, please keep that in mind when posting.

There will be a post-race column asking for your views on the entire NCWTS season of coverage on SPEED next week. Thanks for stopping by The Daly Planet.

Nice night for some racing!

Vicky D said...

Hope it doesn't rain tonight someone said on twitter it looked like rain. I love that picture of Jennifer Jo too. Hope our guy has a great race and the others finish behind him! Set Up is good so far let's hope they don't talk too much about the chase and top 3 cup drivers.

#93 Shane Sieg should be the only S&P of the night.

RWar24 said...

Oh Crap!! There's only one thing worse than a Waltrip in the booth.. Yup you guessed it, 2 Waltrips.. UGH!

JD, while I agree the competition for the championship was not as competitive this season, I think the series was much healthier this season than last season. Last year, we were lucky if 22 trucks finished the race.

I agree 2011 looks much stronger.

Daly Planet Editor said...

What would the last weekend of the season be without our little troll?

How ya doing bud?

Daly Planet Editor said...

Well, so many started out this year and then faded out.

The sponsor issues are just brutal.

Anonymous said...

JD, I see what you mean now. Hopefully the Trucks can put on a good show tonight and bring some momentum into 2011. It would be nice to see the return of Setzer, Musgrave & Benson to this series.

Vicky D said...

RWar24 - yep lucky us having to listen to 2, count 'em 2 Waltrips in the Speed booth!

Daly Planet Editor said...

Oh, I just loved the youngsters vs. old guys stuff!

Musgrave and Setzer can school some guys when needed.

You guys have fun at the Truck race. I'm at the Bobcats - Heat game.

Daly Planet Editor said...

ROFL! Finally, a funny troll comment! I knew you had it in you.

Charlie said...

Looks like Max Papis is in the #1 car on Truck Buddy.
Not sure about #2.

RWar24 said...

Every troll has its day..

Daly Planet Editor said...

Charlie, I think it's Jen Jo Cobb.

The anthem singer has a beautiful voice although the song might have been a tad slow.

PammH said...

She was to "prevent" the anthem?? Welp, she did that just fine...;)

JD, a question: General opinion, at least here, is that lousy tv coverage is a major reason the ratings are down, along with considerable sentiment that the chase hurts too. There's also a general opinion that Speed's truck coverage is far better than ESPN's coverage of Cup.

I don't disagree with either view.

So, are these opinions supported by Truck series ratings this year not down as much as cup ratings?

Charlie said...

Yes your right JD. Papis and Cobb

Tim S. said...

I'm sorry, I love the Trucks more than any other series I've ever watched as a motorsports fan. But both Waltrips in the booth? I can't handle that. Good luck to everyone. And that includes viewers.

Anonymous said...

FloridaMatt - If you look at Jayski's Truck series news page, you can view the past Speed press releases. Ratings have gone up for about half the races

Daly Planet Editor said...

Matt, truck ratings are up again this year. Much lower because of the exposure and promotion than Cup, but nice and solid.

Networks have what are called production philosophies. TNT, FOX, ESPN and SPEED are all very different.

This SPEED approach works great for a series like the trucks.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Tim,

Rick Allen said he would probably only get to say hello and goodbye!

Thought that was a scream.

Sally said...

JD, did you read this from BZF's press conference?

However, the most curious moment happened about two-thirds of the way through the conference. ESPN's David Newton asked a question about the Chase that began this way:

Q. ... a lot of fans that communicate with us say they are just as disenchanted with the Chase in general, they want to go back to the other points system —

BRIAN FRANCE: You met somebody that's telling you that?

Q. Yeah.

I don't think oblivious even begins to cover that!

Charlie said...

not cobb.

MeekloBraca said...

I can handle DW because im used to tuning him out. Micheal Waltrip is the worst announcer in sport. I dont know who he pays off for a job but it sickens me.

Sally said...

Nice. DW just threw Hornaday undeer the bus.

Brian France said...

An interview with ME:

BRIAN FRANCE

BRIAN FRANCE: Obviously we are very excited about coming down to the last race with a tight battle. Some observations I did want to share with you, and I've been doing this a long time, and our family has been doing this a long time.

But what's really clear to me, is when you put drivers in a position where there's a lot on the line, and they just can't have a good position, and they actually have got to go out and win or lead laps or compete high, they do it. And I think you're seeing that the last several weeks; that the best drivers all year, a whole bunch on the line, and they are dominating these races going back and forth. And I bet that's the case on Sunday.

I forget the rest of my speech.....

Daly Planet Editor said...

Sally,

Go over to SBNation and read what Jeff Gluck wrote after the France press conference.

Gluck basically could not believe what he had just heard.

It's a classic!

Anonymous said...

LOL, I got a good laugh at DW dismissing Ron Hornaday's restart abilities, implying he is past his prime.

The Waltrips are having a chatter fest.

Charlie said...

With truck buddy the #1 in-car has the engine noise to loud and it is hard to hear the spotter.

Daly Planet Editor said...

France went out of his way to praise ABC and ESPN.

It was just flat-out weird.

Brian France said...

Q. Earlier you mentioned wanting to grow the audience and expose NASCAR to as wide an audience as possible. With that in mind, why does the move from ABC to ESPN where you go down some homes, why does that make sense for the sport going forwards? And are you comfortable with having it on ESPN next year, and as you look to reach younger fans, is there a way to get more of the races online or things like that?

BRIAN FRANCE: Well, we are having a lot of success with some of our digital efforts. So that being one.

ESPN is our partner and they have been an enormously good partner, and they actually have a younger demo on ESPN network than does their sister network, ABC.

But obviously, so you know, we are going to look with everybody at ESPN to make sure that we have the right times, the right promotion, the right everything, that puts the sport in the best possible position to have had the biggest audience. Our interests are completely aligned in that.

And I suspect we'll sit down in the off-season and talk about that and we are going to share everything with them and they have been a great partner. By the way, I think the broadcast has been as good as I've seen in a long time. I think the energy level and the calling of the action, the on-air talent, I think is top-notch right now on their network, and they have been working at that for a few years to get all of the things just right, and I think they have.

Meeklobraca said...

I dont understand why anybody at Nascar lets Brian France speak?!? Havent they learned their lesson over the last 7 years of how this guy comes across or do they just not care?

Vince said...

Truck Buddy has locked up on me twice already. Not a good sign.

Wisconsin Steve said...

Have you ever wondered what Thanksgiving dinner is like with the Waltrips?

This may be a sample.

Daly Planet Editor said...

After France put his foot in his mouth with the Mauricia Grant and then the drug testing issues, I realized no one could stop him from going on TV.

He never wore a tie, never combed his hair and looked awful.

No professional PR or media person would have permitted this.

Anonymous said...

@ Steve - If I had to eat a Thanksgiving dinner with the Waltrips, I would take my food and find the nearest door or window to escape.

Meeklobraca said...

He looks like a used car salesman JD. Not the head of the a multi-million dollar organization. And unfourtunately for us, hes just as bad and shaddy as a used car salesman.

sbaker17 said...

I've watched the Trucks from their inception. Actually saw the prototype truck unveiled at Mesa Marin Raceway years ago. Even though I have a large HD TV and surround sound it's Truck Buddy for me tonight with dos Waldrops in the booth. BOO HISS

Daly Planet Editor said...

Phil Parsons is probably just asleep in the corner.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Meek,

Lots of us asked the NASCAR PR guys about that. They said he does what he wants....period.

I got the message!

Charlie said...

I believe I can hear the spotter better now with the Papis #1 in-car on Truck Buddy. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

Hopefully the new Speed management will dump this DW Homestead tradition.

PammH said...

Taping the race to see who wins, but I'm listening to Sirius. W Bros in the booth does NOT get it for me. Off topic, but I'm in MI & furnace bit the big one today. I'm off & on w/a space heater rite now, but crawling into bed soon, just to get warm....brrr. Low tonite 30-could be worse in MI in Nov tho!

Vince said...

Hey Thanksgiving with the Waltrips, you get three turkeys!!!

Brian France said...

I did not sexually harass that woman - Mauricia Grant. Just paid her some monies to go away.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Vince from left field!

Daly Planet Editor said...

One time in Cali he talked about Grant and he looked awful.

Just rumpled, disheveled and like he just work up. It was afternoon.

Daly Planet Editor said...

oops...woke up! Tired. Long week!

Meeklobraca said...

Well the problems with this sport start and end with his "leadership" and the people he has employed. And I dont see this sport getting out of this rut until hes gone, economic downturn or not.

RWar24 said...

DW: That's why I like racers like you Mikey and Stewart, Busch and Harvick investing your money into owning race teams.

MW: That's right DW, I couldn't find sponsorship for Trevor Bayne, so I told him he can't drive for me. But Since Pastrana wants to race and he's got some corportate backing, I'll put him in a car. So why don't you own a team DW?

Them 2 are the biggest 2 sellouts I've ever seen.

Anonymous said...

@Pamm - Stay warm! I had the same problem last year, not fun.

Sally said...

Did Phil just say either JJ, Denhy, or Kyle Busch would be the new Cup champ?

Daly Planet Editor said...

Michael just gave me some grief from the TV booth on Twitter!

Got to love it.

I said Phil was probably just sitting in the corner and he said yep, he could see him over there.

Vince said...

Deep left field JD.

Geez I'm having Truck Buddy problems here. I'm up to four screen freezes already.

Meeklobraca said...

So I thought DW was coming in and leaving? Jesus

Daly Planet Editor said...

Meek, it's a mess. The TV folks are walking conflicts of interest.

Neither MW or DW or Parsons would be in this position under normal rules.

Last week Havick asked DW on Twitter if he still got a check from Hendrick?

That was awesome.

Sally said...

I thought I read that Phil was disbanding his race team due to no $$$.

Happy Race night Planeteers <3

It's an absolute shame! I shook my head reading Gluck's article. Unbelievable! And WHY can't someone teach him how to be presentable AND knowledgeable? I've never heard anything remotely intelligent sounding come out of his mouth EVER. I could never see Mr. Helton looking tore up from the floor up going on TV. He doesn't care & no one will say 'no' to him. I know his Daddy taught him better :(

RWar24 said...

Lofton rides the wall all the way around the turn and good ole DW says "I don't think he even got into the wall".. LMAO

Sally said...

I had almost forgotten how irritating DW is. Now I remember. And two Waltrips in the booth at the same time is REALLY too much! I don't know if I can take this much longer.

Anonymous said...

I can't believe they have someone in charge at Speed who would be dumb enough to allow two Waltrips in the booth. One has been too many all season and now this? I hear DW is to be on Trackside tonight also so that means the whole evening is ruined. I was looking forward to a good final weekend of Nascar but Speed sure threw a wrench into that. Guess we will watch St.Louis and Ottawa NHL game and not have to listen to DW's silliness.

Sally,

It should be interesting to see if he stays in for another year.

No truth to the rumor he was ever in for racing. I got that from a spotter. They hate the S&P crap.

Sally said...

Brian Framce really is an embarrassment, isn't he? He is so incoherent he always sounds as if he should take one of Nascar's drug tests.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Seriously! You guys should sign-up for Twitter. Little easy program for laptop or phone.

Harvick and Hamlin were ganging-up on DW this week after DW was gushing over JJ.

It was hilarious!

Anonymous said...

Meek--nope we get DW the entire race every Homestead race

Yes he did say that Sally :( Go back to sleep Phil it's the Mikey & DW show :(

Meeklobraca said...

Phil and company gave it a good effort though. They stayed in it for 2 years trying to make something work and it never did. The economic model must be really bad if start n parking isnt a little bit profitable. But then again I think to make a profit from snp'ing you have to make all the races and Prisim has been missing more and more races lately.

Sally said...

@Gymmie, thanks. Thought I was hearing things. and the media swears they don't have a bromance with Kyle...and that Harvick isn't being overlooked?

But to PRAISE the tv coverage?

I'm sorry that guy is certifiable a mental case and or has a Personality Disorder. :-(

been distracted/bored,, not really watching race yet.

During caution they just showed the stands and they look kind of sparse! Truck Race Buddy is great.

Meeklobraca said...

I was at this race weekend in 2006 and that was arguably when Nascar was at his height as far as attendence and whatnot, and it was empty for the truck race then too. The track is too far from Miami for people to hussle out of work at 5 or 6pm and make it.

Jonathan said...

Oh snap thanks for reminding me about the race buddy for the trucks sweet! i usually work Friday nights so the past couple truck races that has that feature I didnt even bother cause I have to go to work before the end but took tonight off Niccceeee

Daly Planet Editor said...

Tommy was trying to race, he had expenses and went down the drain. Joe and some others are just S&P guys trying to hang on.

Phil had a pretty good-sized operation in multiple series but no overhead of a real shop.

I wrote about it this summer when he was also triple-dipping as a TNT reporter talking to drivers PRISM cars had just bumped from races.

Like I said, walking conflicts of interest.

RWar24 said...

I think the bottom line is for Nascar to stay healthy as a whole, the Brass need to really look at controlling cost for the car owners of all series. Limiting tires and crew people for the races to save cost doesn't cut it. In 5 years, teams have had the switch to unleaded fuel, complete car redesign in 2 of the top 3 series. On the horizon they're going to have fuel injection and E85 and already talk of another car design. I know teams build and rebuild tons of cars, but there has to be limits. Nascar has to spear-head some sort of cost control commission to help these teams, attract new owners and sponsors. Once that happens, the fans will be more excited about the sport and it will grow again.

Jonathan said...

COME ON ARIC GO GO GO!!!! Pass Kyle

Daly Planet Editor said...

What the heck are these SPEED guys watching?

Anonymous said...

YW Sally

Hi Jon :)

I'm not a big football fan, have teams I'll cheer for but not obsessed in watching but like the Commish :). Liked the pics the other day of him hanging with the fans.

Sally said...

JD, with double Waltrips, they aren't watching anything. They are gabbling among themselves. They race is incidental to their marvelous insights!

Daly Planet Editor said...

DW changed the entire dynamic. Like he talks over Mike Joy, he is talking over Rick Allen.

We are used to Rick calling the race and Phil and Michael talking when he lets them in.

With DW, it's all changed.

Sally said...

Remember, this is what we have to look forward to with Fox in February. Gee. I can hardly wait.

Daly Planet Editor said...

This could be a bit ugly.

Jonathan said...

RWar24 said...

Somewhere I'm hearing a Merle Haggard song. Can you say 'Ramblin' Fever'.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Well, on the whole it's been a good series but this coverage tonight reminds me of FOX. Focus on the leaders, DW talking over everyone and few stories being told by the pit reporters.

Hope this is not the new SPEED!

Jonathan said...

GOOD good Kyle u stink!@!! HEEE HEEEE YIPPIE

Roland said...

Im usually not the one complaining about the camera work, but tonights camera work has been awful. and 4 guys in the booth is why there all talking over eachother. DW really does not need to be there.

Jonathan said...

JD I feel this is cause theres 4 in the booth! At the start I was like wow theres a lot of buts in that booth!!! Any thoughts

to many egos for on tv lol

Meeklobraca said...

JD whats are your thoughts on the state of Sirius Nascar Radio? I havent listened to it in a long time, and to me the show line up is an absolute mess. You want to talk about conflict of interests? You have Nascar employees hosting and commenting on opinions of Nascar! The channel needs a complete overhaul in my opinion.

Anonymous said...

Is the caution because the 18 has a flat???

Jonathan said...

I say if your going to have 4 people calling the race, do like MRN and have em spread out across the racetrack!!! Then they can call the action on the track and not whats on the monitor just a thought

Daly Planet Editor said...

Meek,

At the start of the season, I got dumped along with anyone else who offered honest opinions on NASCAR topics.

Callers who strayed off the official line were treated poorly and their loyalty to the sport was questioned.

Also this season, Pete Pistone has been harrassing me on Twitter and talking about me to others in horrible terms. I've never met the guy.

I understand that the NASCAR guys who sold this BS at the beginning of the year in the PR dept are being fired.

So, what's the official line for next year? That's how the NASCAR and MRN employees will behave.

Everyone works for someone!

sbaker17 said...

I don't think it's the booth..but I can't get into the race, even on the big tv. Thinking about going to bed & watching on 36 in old style tv. This race is not holding my interest....I really am trying for the last truck race...

a young couple on twitter I follow, locally does not OWN a tv. Cooks a lot & goes out a lot (in their 20s)

She made a pizza that cost $65!! gourmet cheese. Shazaam. I hear she's fabulous cook. Then her husband said don't even get him started on the jam she made that was $40!

Now back to the race.

Meeklobraca said...

I cant stand Pete Pistone. Hes a shill with a capital S. I turned off the Morning Drive last September after New Hampshire when he blamed the drivers for not slowing down fast enough, instead of calling on Nascar for not throwing the yellow with a car sideways on the track. He also called the 2009 Brickyard 400 "a great race" and couldnt understand why people would question Nascar.

What are you refering to about people being fired? People who dont tow the company line?

Anonymous said...

@sbaker - Yes, but that was Benny... He was awesome to listen to - "Folks, he's going backwards... By that, I don't mean that he's actually going backwards...." He was just such a great character. And who can forget "I'm standing up to see the wreck!" Miss him so much. Plus, he died the same day as my mother. :(

Jonathan said...

yeah wow that looks like a strange crash!!! Speaking of strange wrecks does anyone remember the driver who caused a huge reck at either Daytona or Dega a couple years back, I think it was nationwide the driver was coming out the pits and pulled onto the racetrack as the feild was coming by and caused a huge wreck!! He didnt wait for the cars to pass just pulled onto the track into traffic and BAMMMM anyone remember that

Daly Planet Editor said...

Meek,

Ramsey Poston is being let go and NASCAR is "changing" the structure of the entire PR organization.

Guess spending millions to try and control the message in a world of blogs and social media didn't really work.

Vince said...

What just happened? Truck Buddy didn't show the wreck.

Zetona said...

Jonathan,

I remember that incident. It was Kevin Lepage, I think. Probably the dumbest thing I've seen in NASCAR.

RWar24 said...

Any company that doesn't admit they have problems are completely disengenuious and out of touch with reality. The good companies acknowledge the problems and strive to correct them. But not Nascar. They try to live in their own world and want everybody to believe in it. They're being fake to their fans and worse of all, fake to themselves.

Meeklobraca said...

See and stuff like that comes down to the direction of Brian Frane, Mike Helton and John Darby. They can fire all the Ramsey Postons they want, but as long as the big 3are in power, nothing will change.

But as a final thought on Sirius, its a real shame Dave Moody and Claire B are stuck in that mess because I feel they genuinly try to conduct themselves without an agenda. As for Mike Bagley, Pete Pistone, Meyers, etc, they all preach with an agenda, a mantra to implement. It stinks, and I miss David Poole even more for it.

Anonymous said...

@ Zetona / Jonathan - Yes, it was Kevin Lepage... As I recall he said that, in the driver's meeting they were told to "just move up on the track". That didn't work at all.

Daly Planet Editor said...

I was a regular on Moody's show and then *poof* everything changed.

Too bad they forced everyone to shill. My opinion is it backfired.

But, the MRN guys need a paycheck too.

Anonymous said...

@ Zetona / Jonathan - It was definitely Kevin Lepage. It was one of the stupidest wrecks I've ever seen in NASCAR. The thing that made it wonderfully memorable is that Kevin then blamed the person whom he cut off and who ran into him. I think it was Carl Edwards.

Meeklobraca said...

How does Bob Pockrass get so much play on SNR? Is scenedaily.com a Nascar/ISC site?

RWar24 said...

You know it's a company line when someone like John Jackson is making sure to thank the fans when he was interview after creating the sandbox at the end of the pit wall.

Zetona said...

I remember the announcers saying Kevin's wife was the spotter, so he couldn't exactly place the blame on her, now could he?

Sophia said...

At my mom's house her biggest tv is a 19 inch and in her room a tiny 13 inch.

Even on my house mates 52 in screen that replay of the wreck seemed far away. These TV PRODUCERS act like the whole world has giant tvs. they do not.

Once again a huge incident was missed by the cameras FOR TV.

How does this happen? I blamed BSPN before but this is SPEED?

On another note, very happy the driver is ok.

Jonathan said...

Thanks everyone yeah that was weird! Here we go 16 to go alright

Anonymous said...

So... Remind me, why did we need a caution two times ago when Kyle had a flat tire? I'm just wondering Kyle got a caution that will probably allow him to win, but Austin Dillon just ran the wall and didn't get a caution.

Kyle Busch racing against these guys is like me running a marathon against handicapped 12 year olds. Sure ill win, but really....what am I accomplishing?

Daly Planet Editor said...

No, it is not owned by NASCAR at all, it's a publishing company.

All the remaining NASCAR press corps guys get good play on SNR.

Because...the price is right. Free.

JD so what if any changes will we see w the firing of the PR department???

A HAAAAAA So true about Kyle! I feel she shouldnt be able to run trucks!!! You dont see any MLB players going to play a couple games in A AA or AAA Kyle go away

SNR stands for? ?

Sophia-- I'm assuming Sirius Nascar Radio

Jon, you can Google it. Big story as NASCAR is changing the entire PR and Marketing rep structure.

Also, jobs are up on the NASCAR job board. You can get to that from the bottom of the NASCAR.com website where it says jobs.

Meeklobraca said...

Speaking of cost on Sirius, are all the "guests" they have free or does Sirius pay for interviews?

Nascar's credibility can be questioned again. Busch hit the wall, caution immediately.. Dillon hits the wall, no caution. You can thank Nascar in victory lane Busch. They're the reason you had the chance to win.

What was that funky camera zoom on the flag girl way too early?

Did I imagine that? Wasn't looking at the tv for a minute

Thanks to Dodge RAM for being part of Truck Race Buddy. Also thanks for changing the audio in the Papis car so I could hear the spotter better.

It's a shame that they ruined the booth's work with the Waltrips. One overbearing jerk can ruin a race but when you put two together................

My thoughts exactly on the yellow
flag for the 18 and not the 3.
Guess NA$CAR is paying back part
of that Toyota money.

Thank goodness we won't have to
listen to the babble brothers
'til 2011.

Well folks, it was a little bit different tonight.

I will have a post next week to review the truck series year on TV.

This has been lots of fun, but it was a LONG season!

We are live blogging the NNS race tomorrow and the big Cup race on Sunday.

Race Hub is back next week, NASCAR Now is done on Sunday night.

See you guys tomorrow.

Daly Planet Editor said...

Meek, SNR does not have a dime. Remember, they hire MRN to "provide" most of the 128 content.

It's all 3rd party..

Sally said...

JD, what are your plans for the 'off season'? Will we still have aplace to come and have intelligent discussions about Nascar and racing?

Daly Planet Editor said...

Sally,

New posts every day except Thanksgiving and Xmas!

I got tons of stuff sitting around that I can't release until after this weekend.

Ramsey said he'd still be around in the NA$CAR world. He seems really nice :) Have had nice convos with him on Twitter. Will be interesting to see how things "shake up" next year PR wise.

That was a cute little cart scooter thingie Mike had :)

1 down 2 to go

To JD

I regularly read your columns on the truck series and the comments even though I don't watch the truck races. I developed an allergy to MW during the TWIN years and am instantly repelled by the sound of his voice. Your repeated comments on his more moderate persona finally got me to try to listen to a race. I tuned in mid-race, and the first voice I heard was DW. I was unaware he was going to be in the booth, and it took me by surprise. It took me about 10 seconds to confirm that it was DW, and that was the end of my attempt to watch a truck race.
I don't know who the rocket scientist was at Speed that decided that two Waltrips in the booth was a good idea, but I hope the new head of Speed fires him/her.
To JD - Keep up the good work.
To Speed - Get a clue.

Again, a useless rendition from a guy who wants to be considered still worthwhile.

I thought the guys post calling you out last week was weird until you tried to take credit for all the changes made the past few years. That was just pathetic.

And I have to agree with him even though you blew it off, you often claim to have "insider knowledge" and tell people to "trust you" until it can be made public.....just like Kenny Wallace did...but you blasted him for it.

Sorry I couldn't join yall live but I just caught the replay. What a mess in the booth with double-barreled Waltrips. A shame that Rick had to end the season with those clowns spewing non-stop through the whole race.

The best production of the three NASCAR series every season went out with a whimper.

Thank you to all of the hard working folks behind the scenes for bringing us exceptional coverage of the Truck series.

Thinking about the major crash into the sand barrels unfortunately with the nature of the impact there are rules with major crashes. There are "rules" that say nothing close-up until the driver is out of the truck. The nature of that crash forced the producer to hold back.

Maybe they need to go back to mandating the use of the apron in Turn 3 and adopting something similar to the IndyCars by having that barrier "padded" with an extra wall that blocked the blunt wall.

Mr Editor -
Much as I love truck series ...a great mix of old pros and new faces ...tight racing and fender rubbin ...when I saw DW's mug, that was it ...saw two episodes of Swamp Loggers (new to me)then caught the last few laps ...wasn't up to the intestinal distress of two Waltrips after I had a good meal ...guess link w/Fox will now doom us to DW here, DW there, DW everywhere, huh?

AndyPandy said...

Do I get a prize for being the only person who doesn't mind hearing the Waltrips? I do prefer the usual truck team (and I think Rick makes the broadcasts much, much better than any of the ESPN teams), but adding ol' DW doesn't make me blow a gasket.
