NASCAR On TNT Returns At Pocono

Pocono is sometimes in need of a little excitement, so this year NASCAR brought in Vanilla Ice to drive the pace car. What could go wrong?

TNT returns with some familiar faces and one very interesting decision. Instead of hiring a host for the infield stage, the network chose to use Adam Alexander to host both the one hour Countdown to Green show and the live race. Previous host Lindsay Czarniak left and is a studio anchor for SportsCenter on ESPN.

Alexander will be joined in the infield by Larry McReynolds and Kyle Petty for the pre-race show. He and Petty will then move upstairs while McReynolds moves into a new Tech Garage setting. Wally Dallenback Jr. will be the third man in the TV booth as he has been from the start of the TNT run.

On pit road for the second season will be Chris Neville, best known for his sports car coverage on SPEED. Veterans Ralph Sheheen, Matt Yocum and Marty Snider round-out the pit reporter corps.

TNT brings RaceBuddy back to the Sprint Cup Series. The network will also be integrating social media into the telecasts this season. Twitter looks like it will be the emphasis. The pre-race show will have several features including one with Jimmie Johnson, Bill Elliott and Ned Jarrett talking about NASCAR issues.

We will be using the #TDP1 hashtag on Twitter to host a live stream of chat that has all kinds of media and NASCAR personalities involved. If you are not on Twitter, come on over and give it a try. We welcome your comments here and will post a full race TV review for your comments once things are done at Pocono.

As always, thank you for taking the time to stop by The Daly Planet. Comments may be moderated prior to posting.

I am going to DVR this snoozefest. Its Pocono, plus nobody on TNT's broadcast team is worth watching.

Pre-race is pretty lame. Lizard Licks piece had the same amount of acting as the actual series.

It's gonna be a long 6 weeks with TNT promotions filling up with all their shows.

Sad it looks like I missed the Ned Jarrett piece. I really don't like the new prerace format with McReynolds running downstairs and Alexander running things upstairs at the same time. The Lizard Lick piece was so corny and embarassing, it belonged on FOX.

Pretty good start so far, that replay of Cassill losing control of his car was excellent.

I love the combo of Dallenbach and Petty for some reason. They have good chemistry together. I like how they keep McReynolds involved in the broadcast instead of Tim Brewer isolation.

TNT makes me feel closer to being at the track than FOX did, obsessed in their own universe of cartoons and nicknames.

Didn't like TNT almost missing pit stops and bumper cam, but the wide shots are just stunning and I've missed through the field so much.

Isn't the penalty for speeding on pit road a pass-through? Why did the 48 stop-and-go just now? AA said something earlier about it being a stop-and-go, but I thought he was mistaken.

Fantastic reporting so far.

Busch so true! This is how it should be done - I have a new Coby LED 1080p tv and the pictures TNT is providing us is just amazing!!! Just like im there

JD whats up with this Speeding whats wrong???

Mostly solid, still using full screen replays during green flag racing. Pit road seems a little disjointed. Not much digging on the pit speeding penalties either.

Also they look content to lock into the top 10

Rough around the edges right now.

- If they are sticking with Kyle's conspiracy theory, they need to visit with the NASCAR timing & scoring people.

- Casey Mears in the garage, I wonder why?

- That last segment was a lot of FOX style 'follow the guy with the ball' with the viewers just following Dale Jr. Show the racing please!

- Looks like the throttle stuck on the #22, I doubt he would mis-judge the corner that much like Wally thinks.

- Adam was making a lot of mistakes in the beginning, but he has gotten better as the race has progressed.

Wow. TNT is making Pocono look as exciting as FOX does Bristol. Wish we hade more than 6 races.

Kudos to AA for constantly resetting the field heading to the green flag, he's improved.

I also noticed the dumb fake "start" pylon is gone...yay!

The nice part about TNT is there really isn't any bias. No driver or team has dominated the broadcast.

TNT really needs to ditch the random in-car shots. If they aren't illustrating a point, they don't belong.

This is exactly what I saw at Dover, TV seems incapable of showing all aspects of a pass. I could see from the interval that Ambrose is catching Logano. He was probably getting ready to pass the #20, but we are stuck watching a random bumper cam while Adam Alexander searches for something else to talk about.

Watch who is moving foward and backwards in a long green flag run and follow it. Show one driver catching the next car for position, setting up his pass, and completing it. It's a lot more interesting than a bumper cam.

Only 1st or second time actually watching NASCAR LIVE!

LOVE TNT and their guys. That Lizard licks thing promo was HORRID. White trash to the max. Shame Larry M had to go along with that :(

I feel like I am WATCHING a race w/o having to multi task. Checking twitter some but have tv on & looking and in bathroom where foiling my hair had MRN guys! Double fun.

TNT may not be perfect but show me the race & I will watch NASCAR

Now fix this plethora of bogus speeding penalties which is messing things up (stripes no place correctly? tho NASCAR would never admit they are wrong

It's hot outside, got the A/C on and enjoying the race on the 52 in tv of housemates.

He's watching F1 (on Fox, ugh!)in his room on the 42 inch, lol! Back when he was getting bonuses, before he lost his job a year ago :(

Come on TNT...I hate this lazy in-car Sunday drive. Follow the battles!

Come on. TNT should show a replay of the debris/Almirola hitting the wall if they have them.
